French Polynesia's Sexy Secret 🤐 Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 432

Ahoy Fam!  We are seriously stoked to share this with you!!! We put more than a little extra love and elbow grease into this one because this experience was SO incredible (and also sketchy/intense) that we wanted to do it justice and give you a taste of what it was really like.  This week's episode finds us in Fakarava which is home to one of the rarest marine events on planet earth.  Once a year on the full moon towards the end of June/early August, thousands upon thousands of grouper travel from the atolls of French Polynesia to the south pass here and gather for a mass spawning event (or as I so eloquently put it in the video, a giant fish orgy 😂 ).  It was a truly wild experience, and definitely one of our top dives of all time.  We really hope you enjoy this video, and thank you so much for coming along for the ride with us!

Lots of love from all of us!

This was super cool.

Janne Peltonen

Brian and Kazza, missed you so much at boat show, but we got a pic with Ryan and Connor and the Delos piece of the sail Ryan has in commemoration. The booth wasn't the same without you. Thanks so much for sharing the ear dryer. I've had ear and pressure issues since doing the blue hole in Belize for our honeymoon, so going to check out.

Danielle and Joshua Romme

Better than a Nat Geo doc. Fantastic.

Click Boom Sail

So happy to know that this level of nature and abundance of life is still happening on the planet. Your filming and story telling is next level I feel fortunate to be along for the ride. Keep on rolling my friends I look forward to every episode.

Richard S Florence

Thanks so much Tom, and yep we were all sooooo stoked, it really was something so special...definitely one of our top ten dives in all our years diving around the world, we were all smiles for days!

Sailing SV Delos

Oh wow diving must have been a trip back in the 60's with so many unknowns. Ohhhh have so much fun at the boat show, we are definitely having some FOMO over here although French Polynesia isn't so bad either 😜 Please do drink a few Pain Killers in our honor and enjoy the boat show!

Sailing SV Delos

You're so welcome Brian and thank you for coming along on this wild ride with us!

Sailing SV Delos

Thanks Catherine you are so welcome, really happy you enjoyed this one!

Sailing SV Delos

Thanks so much Patricia, and yes I know what you mean exactly...it really is so crazy how they all just know exactly where to be, what to do and when. Quite a powerful experience to witness it!

Sailing SV Delos

Thanks so much Dan, so happy you enjoyed this one, and yes it was an insane thing to witness firsthand...the camera truly doesn't do it justice!

Sailing SV Delos

Thanks so much Lowell, the night dive was so intense that we had no idea how the footage would come out, so were super stoked we got some good shots in the end!

Sailing SV Delos

Hahaha we really put ourselves on the line to get the shots on this one 😂 Glad you enjoyed this one :)

Sailing SV Delos

Would be amazing if you make it out there one day! We actually ran into some patrons that were out there for the dive too, small world!

Sailing SV Delos

Thanks Tom!

Sailing SV Delos

Thanks so much Roger, glad you enjoyed this one!

Sailing SV Delos

Hahaha awesome I can definitely hear it too 😂 Well we will take that very highly as a complement since we love that series so much! Glad you enjoyed Jeff :)

Sailing SV Delos

Wow. Brian and Karen your nature cinematography is reaching new levels. This is truly remarkable. It was also very cool to see the absolute sense of joy on the faces of your diving party. Helps impart a sense of just how singularly spectacular an experience like this must be.

Tom Caban

Hi from Annapolis. WOW...what a video. Had to watch it over again. I use to dive on Okinawa back in the late 60s when i was stationed there, and had some challenging moments, but nothing like what you guys handled. Thanks so much for taking us along. Also, missing you in Annapolis as the show is just getting underway. I'll kick a few back at the Boat Yard while sending my love and best wishes to the crew of Delos. See you on the next tack !

Mickey Finn

Thank you so much for sharing your incredible experience.

Brian Travis

Wow! That was amazing! Thank you so much for sharing that with us!!!❤️⛵️

CATHERINE HACKETT

"...tens of thousands of wild animals running purely on instinct" That made my nervous system sit up and take notice 😳 Modernity has us so far removed from our animal nature, but that sentence awakened something deep and primal in my body. Amazing video! 🙏🏻💙

Patricia

Fantastic episode, one of the very best. The underwater footage was mesmerizing to watch, so I can’t even imagine experiencing it up close.

Dan Moss

That was Jacque Cousteau/National Geographic quality cinematography & story telling. Great job.

lowell mccormick

Wow, what a special occasion to witness the greatness of nature! And thank you so much for sharing this experience with us (and risking getting mistaken for a grouper female 😂)

ToKa

This Fakarava dive is getting more and more famous for good reason and it is the biggest reason I would go to the south pacific. Thanks for sharing

FreeWilly

Fabulous

Tom Worrell

Damn, that is crazy. So unfortunately it looks like we need to find another great Delos theme tune. Maybe some talented patron can compose one for us. Maybe a competition in the New Year

Alan Gore

Great episode, and interesring too. Thank you!

Roger Brooks

What a dive and magnificent video. That reminded me of the old Jacques Cousteau specials. I can just hear his French accent pointing out "gwoupas" in the water.

Jeff Mack

Hey Scott, aw thanks so much for the kind words, so happy you enjoyed this one!

Sailing SV Delos

Hey Alan, well the problem isn't as much that we don't have permission (because we do!) but some people make a "business" out of making fake claims on content they don't even have the rights to. And unfortunately its kind of a guilty until proven innocent type situation so it often doesn't work out in our favor unfortunately 🥺

Sailing SV Delos

Thanks so much David! Yes Sierra is talking up a storm, even way more now than since this was filmed we are so proud of her 🥰 And yes something about the big open sand channel makes you wanna just dip your toes right in there hahaha

Sailing SV Delos

Thanks James, will pass along the fist bump to Jordan too :)

Sailing SV Delos

Glad you came through well and sound! What an experience. :D

Colleen Balch

You're so welcome Frank and thanks for your support and for coming along on the adventure with us!

Sailing SV Delos

Ohhh thank you so much Colleen 🥹 Glad you enjoyed!

Sailing SV Delos

So wild right?!? Doesn't even feel real when you're down there, such a crazy experience!

Sailing SV Delos

Thanks so much William :)

Sailing SV Delos

Thanks Victoria and we are so happy you enjoyed this one :) And thanks so much for the kind words, it was super hard to film especially the night dive so we are so happy with the shots we got...felt like we were just holding on for life down there hahaha

Sailing SV Delos

Omg it was sooo crazy! The footage didn't do it justice of how chaotic it really was 😂 So happy to take you along in a more controlled environment haha

Sailing SV Delos

Thanks David! Haha I know love how she just makes it a party everywhere she goes 😂

Sailing SV Delos

What a great episode! One of your best, and the production values are every bit as good as anything you will find on TV. Bravo!

Scott St. Clair

Great episode, I know the reasons why but is there any hope of getting permission to play Ramukanji again or is it gone forever, just doesn't feel the same without it 😭

Alan Gore

That was a truly awesome episode! As always, it's so special to share in your wild adventures. What an experience! That was a lot of groupers, and a LOT of sharks! Random observations: I chuckled at the finless, bare-footed leaps from the sandy bottom at about 6:50; Sierra is talking so much!; glad Kazza's ear is OK; and that current would freak me out for sure, not to mention dropping straight down to 110' to cling to the bottom! So cool!

David Levine

That was a great episode. Fist bump to the editors too. 👊

James McArthur

Thank you very much for sharing your adventures!!

Frank

This episode is a MASTERPIECE!!

Colleen Balch

So far out! Wow! Nature is beyond amazing and getting to see this sort of event hopefully helps treasure it more. Thanks guys! Y'all are amazing too. Hugs!

Robert Beger

Great work on this one!

William Domb

Wow that Grouper dance was hot, hahaha! Going to have to show this one to the hubby :)! All joking aside - I am so glad you guys have developed the skills to dive and shoot this sort of thing, and the willingness to share it with us - thanks for another great production and for putting yourselves out there!

Victoria Makris

Thanks for taking me along on that scary dive! something I could’ve never done in my lifetime

Mike TopCat

Great episode! Amazing event to witness. So cute watching Nuggs continue to thrive.
