A Wave of Death 😱 It killed EVERYTHING...

Hola beautiful friends!

We proudly present to you this week’s new episode!  We wrap up our time in the Gulf of Nicoya which has been one of our favourite parts of Costa Rica. It is so tranquil and calm there, and sooo insanely beautiful….well at least it was until we woke up in the middle of hot, stinky, mass grave of THOUSANDS of dead fish. We found ourselves in the middle of a red tide event (we give you the run down on everything you need to know about red tides in the video!) like we have never seen before. But once we move anchorages we encounter a different natural phenomenon which is also caused by plankton, and we go for a night swim in the craziest bioluminescence…and we were surprised to see some of things that can trigger the bioluminescence. I won’t ruin the surprise for you on this one though, you’ll have to wait and see for yourself!

Meanwhile, we continue to be in complete awe of the Sea of Cortez every step of the way. Towering cacti in the middle of desert landscapes, the clearest water we’ve seen since the San Blas, amazing diving, super calm and protected anchorages…It feels SO freaking amazing to be back into full on cruiser mode. After spending so much time in Marinas this season, dealing with challenging anchorages and covering a LOT of miles, we didn’t realise how much we missed this type of cruising until we we got back into it! Sierra is absolutely loving it here as well, and she’s gotten so comfortable diving under the surface which is a fairly new development for her. It’s such a special feeling to see how she adapts, learns, and grows in this unconventional lifestyle, and we are just so proud of her and it puts a smile on our faces and warms our heart to see how she is thriving in this lifestyle.

Anywhooo, hope everyone has a lovely weekend, and as always thanks so much for being a part of our tribe and supporting us in this adventure.

Brian, The wife and I will be celebrating our 50th Anniversary on Oct. 19th and have out of town visitors for that week. Might be able to work out a meet up later in the month. Will keep in touch. BTW, I have MC-4 solar connectors, contacts, wire and crimper here in Tucson.

Gravytrain

Ahoy Grady! Good to hear from you. We will be in Puerto Penasco on Oct. 3rd, then leaving for the boat show, and coming back on Oct. 19th. When we come back we're hoping to do a little get together there. Will you be around? If so we'll put up a post on Patreon if we can work something out. Cheers and thanks so much for all your support! Brian

Interesting... The plot thickens.

What didn't happen with typical speed was getting a notification from YT about the (new) "Skinny Dipping . . ." (sponsored) episode. Thunderbird tells me I got it at 10 am on Friday, but I am very sure it came in much later. Typically I get the week old episode first. When I got the new patron episode first I was surprised. It was when I went to watch the new Patreon episode that I saw a suggested link to the week old episode that used Skinny Dipping in the title. Since the week old episode, that I remembered, referred to as the "Wave of Death", I was understandably (?) confused. I had to view it for a bit to see that it was basically the same (week old) episode. So I honestly don't know how I got the notification for the "Skinny Dipping" episode late. ? ? ? Thunderbird says that I got it (as usual) right before the new patron episode. Maybe if we just sit tight and see what happens this coming Friday there may be no problem.

Scott C. Wise

Haha we were cracking up so much, couldn't stop laughing for at least 15 minutes 😂 Sending love back at ya to Canada Bill!

Sailing SV Delos

Whoa that would have been amazing, and the water is probably so clear there, what an amazing experience!

When we do the sponsored ads we release a version just for Patrons so you can enjoy the vids ad free. And as of the last few episodes we've started doing a patrons only version even for videos without any promotions so that they can stay ad free on YouTube if you want to go back and watch older one's with no ads on YouTube...unfortunately this means that the comments you leave on the Patreon version can only be seen on that one and not the public one on Youtube. As for the notification, do you mean through YouTube or do you normally get the emails? Want to check on that and make sure there's not a problem on our end. Thanks Scott!

I just had a look at the "new" Episode 380 entitled "Skinny dipping In Bioluminescent ALGAE 😱 (Strangest Experience Ever!) Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 380" I noticed the inserted ad, which, as a patron, I don't mind not having to watch. But all of our patron(?) comments are gone from the new Ep. 380. Is this going to be a regular thing from now on? Or is this an experiment of some kind? I'm just wondering. Also, I didn't get an email notice of the (new) (last week's) Episode 380. I usually do get notified, even though I watched it last Friday (with a different title and without the advert). Seems there's a little mystery here.

I suppose if I were to comment "she's a spitter", that would go in the naughty column.

Andrew Lee... lost, at sea!

That bioluminescence was insane. Once did a night dive in Grand Cayman- like swimming though the Milky Way. Definitely trippy!

Hillary Horn

🤣

Mark Clay

Ya. Just a small stream. But there were glowing results!

Scott C. Wise

lol

Scott C. Wise

We haven't made any in quite a while actually. We accidentally soaked the still when we overflowed our water tanks in Panama last year, and we haven't really gotten it out to inspect the damage yet. We did some big batches last year that has lasted us for a while!

Sailing SV Delos

Haha we've had those forever, a galley classic 😂

Sailing SV Delos

Oh wow, yeah we were lucky we didn't really have an irritation or adverse effects after our swim. Full face mask would def be the way to go

Sailing SV Delos

Hahahaha it was a pretty weak one 😂

Sailing SV Delos

Hope my blurred butt during the night swim looked good on the big screen on this one 😂

Sailing SV Delos

Haha nothing that happens on Delos surprises anyone anymore...if people are doing super weird stuff that's pretty much just a day in the life for us 😂

Sailing SV Delos

Man! That last bit with Kazza spitting out water made me laugh! Sierra is becoming more and more of a real person! Her antics on the beach running was hilarious as well. Stay Safe in Mexico! Much love from Canada.

Bill Dapp

You know, I'm not entirely sure about that but I would think that any continuous metal structure that allows current to run along the outside of it, rather than through it or in it would do pretty well. But that's just my guess so maybe it deserves more research :)

Sailing SV Delos

I would love to meet up in Puerto Penasco, keep us up to date as to when you will be there.

Gravytrain

nothing two or three pixels couldn't hide!!!

Andrew Lee... lost, at sea!

Aw thanks Dan, so glad you enjoyed this one! We love making you smile 😁😁😁 This was such a fun episode for us to put together, glad that it shows

Sailing SV Delos

Most definitely Tom...the sound of the engine turning off, the lean in the boat. And the same is true if the opposite happens and we have to put in the sails and start motoring.

Sailing SV Delos

Thanks for the kind words Jim, glad you enjoyed this one. Yep Jordan's a keeper we just loved having her on board 🥰

Sailing SV Delos

Us too! Never seen anything like that, it was one of our favorite memories of Costa Rica ☺️

Sailing SV Delos

Glad you enjoyed Stephane! It was a really fun one to put together, especially the night swim scene I couldn't make it through the edit of that section without laughing out loud a few times 😂😂😂

Sailing SV Delos

Oh wow Myra, so glad you enjoyed the sunrise portion, it was such an insanely gorgeous morning for us 💕 And hey feel free to comment where ever you feel most comfortable, but also remember trolls gonna troll 🙄 Glad we all have a nice positive space here to share together

Sailing SV Delos

Haha hopefully they were blurred out enough you didn't get an eye full 😂

Sailing SV Delos

What a great episode! The video editing was the best yet and the music selection was fantastic. So enjoyable to see everyone laughing and smiling. Thanks for always putting a smile here on this side of the screen too.

Dan Moss

Awesome video. Brian & Karen, do you typically wake up when the night watch transitions to the sails, as Jordan did in this episode? Wondering if you are so intune with Delos that the change wakes you?

Tom Caban

" We're out of food!" Kazza that shot cracked me up!! I love your fun loving personality!! Great lightning shots, killer editing coming off of that overnighter. I have a Captain Brian approved coffee mug! Jordan is a capable sailor, awesome editor and easy on the eyes. Good stuff. Be well my friends!!

Jim Krieger

Will a metal building act as a Faraday cage?

Lowell McCormick

Best bioluminescence I've seen.

William Domb

What a fun episode, great shots, good cheer, and good companionship, what more is needed?

Stéphane O.

OMG, I loved the whole sunrise portion of the video. Made me cry. You are the highlight of my week and just adore following your adventures. I don’t post on YouTube because some YouTube trolls start commenting on my posts. that’s one of the reasons I like to comment on Patreon.

Myra Slepoy

The end…. Brian do you ever walk out and catch the ladies filming something like Kazza spitting water at the camera and without comment just head to the galley for a drink?

Andrew Lee... lost, at sea!

Cannon ball(s)!

Andrew Lee... lost, at sea!

😎

Martyn Osman

I’m into it

Martyn Osman

I wanted to enquire about your drink - ( fermentations etc) you have not mentioned lately . Or do you stockpile vast quantities

Martyn Osman

Arrr I can comment. Nice interim video . An ongoing log .

Martyn Osman

Another super entertaining video from the masters. I truly look forward to Fridays because of you guys!

Jeff Mack

Re: the cup that Kazza is holding at the end doing the "spit-take": I have that SAME set of cups on my boat!

Dan

Red tide algae bioluminescence is blue, and the toxin stings if it gets into your eyes, leaving them slightly blurry for about a day. I switched to using a full-face diving mask during last year's red tide season, and it's worked perfectly to keep even a drop of it out of my eyes.

Sailing Cyclops

That Red Tide doesn't sound good! But then that small yellow tide, . . . I don't know. lol

Scott C. Wise

You guys are the only ones I watch in full screen.

Mark Clay
