I Don't Want To Be Here Right Now 🥺 Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 381

Happy Friday Beautiful Friends 🥰

We hope this post finds you well wherever you are in the world.  We also want to let you know how much we appreciated all your amazing feedback and suggestions about the types of things you would like to see more of here on Patreon.  We got so much inspiration from all your amazing ideas, and we are excited to get creative and start sharing more content JUST for YOU! In the future if you have any other ideas or requests for things we can share with you here, feel free to also drop us a message any time right here on Patreon :)

This is our last episode in Costa Rica before we set sail on our 500 mile sail to Mexico...and things get worse before they get better 😬 We kinda hit our limit with Costa Rica, and with hurricane season looming behind us we decide to just high tail it north to our check out point.

As our time in Costa Rica was winding down, we have to be honest and say there will be a few things about this country that we won't miss...some of the rolliest anchorages we've ever stayed in, sketchy and difficult beach landings through the surf with the dinghy, and lots of bureaucracy, and everything was super expensive.  BUT We had some AMAZING highlights and experiences there!

---The surfing was awesome(Though we never really filmed it very well..it turns out that getting good surf footage is super hard...and also requires one of us to take a break from surfing which is no bueno 😂) If you're a surfer and don't mind the rolling and challenging beach landings in the dinghy, and especially if you have a catamaran...Costa Rica is pretty incredible

---In general the Gulf of Nicoya was AMAZING and if you do end up cruising Costa Rica, we definitely recommend a stop there, you won't regret it!

---We met some super cool people!  Visiting Sail Cargo was so interesting and inspirational, and we also finally got to connect with Nike from White Spot Pirates who we had a blast with!  Was also really cool to learn more about the recycling project we will be a part of once the machines are ready.

---The wildlife was pretty unbelievable, waking up to the sounds of howler monkeys in the anchorage is surreal!  We saw all kinds of monkeys, sloths, scarlet macaws, and so much more. Plus LOTS of dolphiiinnnnns 😁

We mentioned it several times throughout the videos, but Costa Rica seems like a mind blowing place to explore by land, but for cruisers....well it depends what you like but we probably wouldn't do it again.  In fact Jordan actually just went back to where we stayed in the AirBnB in Matapalo and is working on the videos from there in the surf shack!  She is just loving it there, and pretty much confirms what we thought that Costa Rica by land is amazing!

As always, thanks for coming along on the journey with us 💕

Indeed. Being in the Delos Tribe gets you VIP status everywhere. Thanks guys

Tanya DuPras

That is what lead her to leave Delos. The Frenchman! It looked good ..... but sometimes it's hard to tell good news from bad news .... because it takes a long time to find out which it was.

Bonne Mike

I'm glad Karin is feeling back to normal pretty much always enjoy your videos Sierra is really enjoying her sailing adventure so great to see! Till next week by from Hobe Sound Fla take care..Gary

Awww Lizbef what a legend! Just had a peek at the article, of course she is quoted saying she wants to paint her boat pink like a giant penis. She DEFINITELY gets the prize for the most colorful interviewee of the lot 😂😂😂

Sailing SV Delos

Read the news and suddenly, Liz living in a river boat! https://www.theguardian.com/travel/2022/aug/28/we-feel-truly-alive-meet-the-liveaboards-sailing-away-to-a-new-life

Oh yeah, I have to mentally prepare myself for these situations and really get in the right head space to deal with this kind of stuff. Having a friend with always makes it nicer too! Glad you enjoyed this one and thanks for the kind words Jim!

Sailing SV Delos

Oh how sweet, love to be a part of your family ritual!

Sailing SV Delos

It means "Rich Coast" which it totally is...so beautiful, lush, and wild. But for cruisers its a bit of a tough one!

Sailing SV Delos

Aww that's so cool, love hearing stories like this where the Delos Tribe connects out in the world! Happy you got to have a nice sail, and Maui sounds awesome, Jordan has told us lots about it, she used to work as a dive instructor there and has had some really crazy diving experiences there!

Sailing SV Delos

Ugh, sorry for the typos, wasn’t wearing my glasses 🤦🏼‍♀️

Tanya DuPras

Hey Brian, Karin, and Nugs! Just returned from a vacation in Maui, and I talked to my husband into going on a sailboat for a snorkeling trip, we didn’t want to go on one of those huge commercial boats that pack on 50 people to go to a snorkeling site, so we found Sail Maui. I had her however that many of these sailboats never even put up their sails, and I was disappointed that we motored all the way out to this sunken volcano crater for snorkeling. But, I was wearing my SV Delos rash guard, and the skipper happen to see this when I jumped in the water. When we got back on the boat he came over to me and my husband and said “there’s not a lot of wind today but we’re going to get the sails up, I like your shirt”. So we ended up taking the long way back to port and got up to about 9 kn! Thanks guys, guess those rash guards are multi-functional! I have to tell you I can’t remember the last time I was on a sailboat but when they turned that motor off, I was in heaven. Hopefully one day I’ll be able to stay on my own boat

Tanya DuPras

Hey Andrew, not really so many problems with piracy on this side. The real danger is getting caught in long lines and fishing nets!

Sailing SV Delos

That roll looked awful. We’re there any concerns travelling past Nicaragua and Guatemala on the western coast? I know you took precautions on the Caribbean side.

Andrew Devaney

Break out the jack lines we're at anchor. What?! Man the only thing that sucks more than a rolling anchorage is unnecessary government bureaucracy! Snaps my stitches. I commend you and Bill for handling the situation so well, although I'm sure many deep breaths were taken : ) Killer editing guys. You are the gold standard. Much love to the crew. Extra hugs for the little nugget!!

Jim Krieger

This is a weekly tradition for my 4yo twins and I.. we love watching the videos! The twins affectionately refer to SV Delos YouTube as “Baby Sierra”. I’ve convinced them that we need to sell everything and become full time cruisers…. Now we just have to convince mama. Blue skies, y’all! AJ

Adam Johnson

Yes amazing! Screen capture for possible dad joke as we speak :)

Sailing SV Delos

Doesn't Costa Rica translate as "Delicious Coast"? 🤔

Michael Williams

I wish the same for all of you! Did I mention that I picked up my tickets for the 2022 US Sailboat Show? I don't think so. I was sure to use the Delos promo code as well. ; - )

Scott C. Wise

What kind of Bees make Milk? Boo-bees.

Ron Brock

Oh no way, that's awesome Chris! Thailand was crazy you will absolutely love it there! Check out some of our old vids if you want to get some inspiration for that region 🤙

Sailing SV Delos

Thanks Jeff, Kiril did an awesome job putting this one together!

Sailing SV Delos

This is so true Shelly! We're feeling that so much right now up here in the Sea of Cortez...after a few months of rolling, lots of marinas, and dodging hurricanes we are just happy as a clam up here in our cruiser paradise!

Sailing SV Delos

Haha we're too immature to NOT make dirty jokes when the moment arises, so I think that will never change 😅

Sailing SV Delos

Thanks Colleen, yep we're pretty happy to be through with it too haha. Our time up here so far in the Sea of Cortez has made up for all the rolls along the way, we're in cruiser heaven up here!

Sailing SV Delos

🥳 Happy almost-weekend Scott, enjoy!

Sailing SV Delos

It's a Delos Friday miracle!! Hahaha awesome, happy to keep bringing you the Delos magic every week!

Sailing SV Delos

OMG, I was just watching this video and reading about your start...I was just at Shileshole Marina looking at a Catalina 36! Then I went to Anacortes and sailed a 45' Jeanneau from Cap Sante Marina in Anacortes down to Swantown Marina in Olympia. Had a blast! Small world!!! My initial passage will be to Thailand to meet my dad.

Chris F

Another entertaining video! I really liked the segment at 8:30 looking up the forestay with a frigate bird soaring above and a full spinnaker backed by slow blues guitar. Beautiful and very artistic.

Jeff Mack

The rolly sails and mostly, anchorages make the flat, calm bays SO appreciated! :-) You guys did great checking out of Costa Rica!

Shelly Ackerman

We're ok with it not going to a PG rating! 🤪

Kim & Leo

Hard times when rolling at anchor! Glad you’re through with that now. Thanks for the fun and adventure!

Colleen Balch

SV Delos Friday? Time to hit play! Another very enjoyable SV Delos episode!

Scott C. Wise

I felt that now would be a good time for some Delos magic and to my joy a new video was posted just 3 minutes ago. JAY 🥰
