When the Madness Sets In: How We Stay Sane AT SEA! Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 383

Hola hola everyone!  We proudly present part 2 of our passage from Costa Rica to Mexico where we give you a little glimpse into the less glamorous side of sailing.  Sailing can be an exhilarating, magical, sporty, terrifying, beautiful, peaceful, or intense experience...but when there's no wind or light and variable winds, things can get a bit tedious when you're just motoring and bobbing around in the open ocean with very little to keep you entertained.  So In this week's episode we show you the reality of what it can be like out there-sometimes boring, sometimes silly, sometimes exhausting...but don't worry our trip is still peppered with some action, good vibes, and some truly magical moments together as friends and family.  That's one of the things we look forward to most about these longer passages, a chance to disconnect and not think about work, how many views our last video got...we can just be together present in the moment and observe, acknowledge and appreciate all the highs and lows that pass throughout the days, feel close to nature, and of course catch up on all our favorite podcasts πŸ˜‚ Jordan got us hooked on one called Crimes of Passion (we listen to it on Spotify, not sure if it's on all the different platforms) and it's turned into a bit of a guilty pleasure for us.

We hope you enjoy this one, it's got a little bit of everything and we had a lot of fun putting this one together.  Stay tuned later this week we will be releasing a slow tv style video of the passage if you want to just vibe out and soak up all the sights and sounds of what 4 days at sea feels like.

Sending big hugs and good vibes to everyone on this lovely Friday,

Brian, Kazza, and Nuggs

Aw thanks Hillary, so happy you enjoyed this one :) Yep that's one of our favorite things about longer passages is being able to disconnect from the outside world and just spend time together as a lil family, just passing the hours with simple pleasures πŸ’•

I love how you all seem to enjoy each other’s company despite weather and boredom challenges. Good plan to save some special toys for those wiggly days. Also your kindness for fellow travelers is awesome to see. No surprise there!

Hillary Horn

Thanks for posting and sharing. Very nice to see how the conclusion of the passage went.

Don't forget my beloved Cheasapeake Bay! That showed you a pretty good time too!

We gotta give the people what they want πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Hehe thanks Scott!

I can remember being in the Atlantic we were doing a REPLEMSHMENT for an aircraft carrier. The winds were bad the seas sucked . And I was clinging to whatever wasn't moving. Lol. I was talking to a buddy of mine and I looked to the port side and there was a cruiser or as we call them SMALL BOYS . I swear Brian she was coming out of the water.. you could see the prop spinning. The bow going into the water. It was havoc. But that big ol carrier was just cruising along like nothing else. And my ship was just pumping gas. Lol. My ship to be honest pays homage to seattle Washington. USS SEATTLE AOE-3.

I would say that's in the Southern Indian Ocean for sure. The trades were normally blowing at 25 knots, which means squalls and gusts could be in the mid-40's on a routine basis. On one passage to Madagascar we got hit by a big low moving out of the north. Our wind gauge at the time maxed out at 50 knots and it was pegged for just over a day. Nasty stuff, terrible sea state as well. Fair winds! Brian

awesome. I love the longer trip videos.

Brian I truly admire your diligence on looking at your charts and navigation computer. Truly a well thought out plan is always best. Of course back up plan is good as well. Whats the worst weather in your travels you have come across???

CHRISTOPHER DOFF-SOTTA

ohhhh, sexy shower scene!

Tim Cone

Great 'lectric skills!

Scott Leak

Love the Nugs brilliant smile

Thanks Andrew, it was a bit of an intense night but we had good holding and made it out unscathed. Which is more than we can say for some of the other boats in our anchorage...two boats drug and ran aground, so heartbreaking and scary to see.

This clip NEVER gets old, my heart melts every time I watch it πŸ₯°

Sailing SV Delos

Haha we wanted to make a new endscreen for the videos and the first clip that popped into my head from this season was that moment! It's just too cute and now we get to see it every week πŸ₯° Yep, sailing is certainly full of highs and lows, but when it's good, man is it GOOD. The perfect sail is a feeling like no other.

Sailing SV Delos

Haha Carry it's true that it's impossible to do a swim like that without at least a tiny corner of your mind wondering whats down there! We love seeing sharks while diving but it's something completely different when you're just bobbing around at the surface way out in the middle of nowhere!

Thanks David glad you enjoyed, we've tried so many different stick modifications to get the underwater dolphin shots, and I think we finally found a winner on this crossing...the key was actually to have kazza holding the go pro down in the water and Jordan pushing forward on the gopro from the back with a boat hook so that it doesn't go backwards against the force of the water. A bit of an operation but when you don't have much else to do to pass the time, why not πŸ˜‚

πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³ Happy Fridayyyy!

Sailing SV Delos

Loved the fish eye shot with the three of you on the bow! Hope the hurricane hasn't been too harsh and Delos and crew faired well through it!

Andrew Devaney

Woohoo!! That kids awesome!

Bart Casey

Cheers on another great episode. I love that you kept in the "woo hoo" from Nuggs at the end of the video. I commented on YT (StSomewhereP30). It is quite telling that when you do get a great patch of sailing you really do get to enjoy it. I am mostly a coastal cruiser and have only done a few ocean passages.

David Hagler

Yeah! My favorite day of the week. Watching another Sailing Vessel Delos Episode. And it’s a great one again. I really enjoyed it. It was so funny to see Jordan playing with the toys during the night shift. What else to do when you’re bored like that, hey? And then I saw you jumping overboard into that perfectly blue and deep ocean not knowing what’s swimming below you. If I was the fish that escaped from the fishing hook, for sure I should take revenge at that moment and start nibbling on your toes. So next time, you better watch out for the fish with the sore beak. LOL! Enjoy Mexico! Cheers.

Carry Bit

Is it Friday again, YES it is. Cheers and take care

Jimmy

Very lovely video. The wide angle and underwater clips are a great addition. The dead-in-the-water encounter with One Life is a sobering reminder of how quickly fortunes can change at sea, and how knowledge and preparation are crucial to successful cruising.

Right on time! : - ) BTW - I already knew I was 110% male. : - ) But that can make it hard to find a 110% female to match with. : - \
