Post Hurricane Real Time Update!

Hola guapas and guapos!

We just wanted to check in with you all and let you know how everything went with the hurricane, what we've been up to, and what some of our upcoming plans are!  We also have all the details for booth times at the boat show, the Patrons only meetup, and a cool presentation I'm going to be doing about completing the circumnavigation.  I'm going to put all that info in a seperate post so it's easy to find for everyone.

Thanks SO MUCH for all the amazing messages of support, offers of help, and just general love and good vibes that we got from so many of you over the last few weeks.  The Delos Tribe rules and we love you all so much!  Hope everyone has a great week, and we have something a little different for you on Friday that I think you will love!  See you then ✌️

Oh wow that sounds like an intense experience, but glad you came out safe and sound from it...that's kinda how we feel about our anchor knowing that it's solid and larger than what we "need" gives us peace of mind. Of course anything can happen on the ocean but it's nice to know we are as prepared as we possibly can be!

Here in Kyushu Japan, we just experienced two typhoons in a span of 3 weeks. The last one called Nanmadol lasted two days, felt like forever. We were in the worst part and then in the eye of the typhoon, but after the eye, the winds were not as strong. our home is on top of a mountain in a peninsula without trees nor homes nearby. So, the winds made our house dance and window bow inwards. We didn't evacuate even though it was advised because our home is built so well. We had electricity, internet and water the whole time while at the bottom of the mountain, people were out of electricity and internet. So, we guessed correctly. I highly recommend the movie Confess Fletch for typhoons. it was a wonderful distraction from our fears/dancing home. We "slept" on our tatami that night because the tatami room was most quiet. We just followed our cats and they knew where the most quiet spot was. looking forward to seeing your footage of the hurricane. I'm thankful everyone is safe.

Just re-upped to follow you guys on the return leg of the circumnavigation. Checked for Bahia Los Angeles on Google Maps... it's really comforting that you're in a part of the world with "California" in the name! Your present position reminded me that I have friends in Rosarito Beach south of you and I need to check on them!

You guys, three words. Great. White. Sharks. I saw a video of people feeding great white sharks in the sea of Cortez, GAH!! Be careful. So happy you held steady and thanks for the update

Tanya DuPras

Honest moments like these are why so many of us are still here. Many other reasons of course, but these updates are super nice.

Andrew Cousins

Never fully enjoyed hurricane events in port, and at sea we would just go under them. Though it is exhilarating to experience. Glad you are unscathed; Delos is truly a floating fortress. Sent a care pkg to the FL address. Hope it rates a smile & chuckle.

Great update! So happy all went well for you during the hurricane! It seams the Pacific Ocean just doesn't like you! Living in the west central mountains of Idaho on a lake is heaven to me but also makes it rough to meet up with you at the boat show. Hopefully someday I will have the time/money to make the trip. So grateful for all the work you do to let us be virtual passengers with you! Sail on!

Kazza - I completely understand your anxiety around that situation. I’ve been through many hurricanes on land and they are terrifying in their power and unpredictability. So glad your boat was secure, but I can hardly imagine what it’s like to see boats dragging out of control around you. Your well-planted anchor is small comfort when there are others out of control around you. It’s a lot! So glad all is well now ☺️💞

Patricia

glad everyone is safe!

Troy Sublett

Thank you for the wonderful update. What you lived through is stressful, frightening, and exhausting. It will take some time to process it all—thank you for letting us be part of your reflection. In the end, you had the right equipment, you made good decisions, and you worked together to keep all of you safe. Well done! ❤️

David Besemer

I’m so happy that you are safe, that Kazza is all better and that you have good plans for the the next few weeks. I wish I could make Annapolis but cannot, so I will be with you in spirit. I feel lucky to be a part of the tribe. Cheers!🥰

Myra Slepoy

Glad you guys stayed safe seeing if Annapolis is a possibility would be lovely to meet you guys

Lisa & Claude

Looking forward to seeing you in Annapolis!

Andrew Devaney

Annapolis is such a blast! I can't wait for this years meet and greet , last years was awesome. So many good people in the Delos tribe.

Jim Krieger

Wow - thanks so much for this update. So wonderful to hear how well you guys maintained during the storm, even though it was emotional. I'm definitely making mental notes here for future hurricane survival tactics and I bet your talk on circumnavigation stories will be super rich! Hope you can find some whale sharks while you are there and I will certainly try my darndest to make it to all SV Delos offerings in Annapolis :) Oh, and I LOVE the new circumnavigation shirts!!!

Victoria Makris

So glad all went well! Looking forward to seeing you all in Annapolis! I'll be bringing along a Grapevine Sailing Club Burgee for you!

Glenn Kimball

So nice to see the reflected sunlight playing on the underside of the Bimini/solar panels.

Wife.

In our limited sailing experience, Long Island Sound on the East coast, I felt I had to exude confidence sometimes when I was only a little bit less scared than my wi.

Dave Cummings

Thanks for this update! We'll see you at the US Sailboat Show! : - )

Scott C. Wise

Don't hurt your hernia repair. Let Kazza do the heavy lifting. ;^)

Lowell McCormick

Glad you guys made it through. So devastating to see those who didn't.

Ashley Simms

Look forward… again, if you need help from an Annapolis local…

Greg Guthman

Nope, that's the one we use all the time. And I always sleep really well :). We do have a smaller backup in case we lose that one that we can also use as a stern hook. It's a Fortress FX-55, and is light enough I can actually carry it aaround in the dinghy without too much fuss- Brian

Sailing SV Delos

Glad everyone is safe and sound. Can’t wait to see you in Annapolis

Bruce Byrnes

It’s great to hear that all is well. The 105lb Mantus M1 is your storm anchor. Do you have a smaller M1 for day to day cruising? Or is that it?

Dreuge

Thanks for taking the time to do these quick updates. Glad they don't require much of your time so you are (hopefully) able to do them more frequently. Safe travels on your trip to Annapolis.

David Hagler

Thanks for the update. I'm glad the hurricane wasn't bad for you in the San Carlos marina and that Kazza is feeling better.

Jeff Mack

Glad you guys made it through and the little nugget is safe and sound.

Greg Bird

Great to see you guys after all that hectic weather!
