Sailing our house to the DESERT...We Didn't Expect THIS 🤯 Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 392

Hey Hey Fam!

For all you Americans in the Tribe and anyone else that celebrates it, Happy Thanksgiving!  We enjoyed a lovely day with family and wayyy too much tasty food :)  And in other exciting news, Sierra has started going to daycare the last couple days and she absolutely loves it, she didn't want to leave yesterday!

Today's episode is a GOODIE!  We've been having so much fun putting together these first episodes from the Sea of Cortez.  It's such an insanely beautiful place, and after a bit of a tough trip up from Panama it finally felt like we were really cruising again.  In today's video we even going diving for the first time in SO long, our last dives were in Coiba right after we went through the Panama Canal so we were definitely over due to blow some bubbles.  We're not going to spoil the surprise but we have one of the craziest underwater encounters we've ever had, and it will definitely leave you in stitches and smiling for the rest of the day.

How many of you out there are divers?  What's your craziest/funniest thing that ever happened underwater?  Leave us some good entertainment in the comments :)

Oh and one other thing, we are having a massive sale in the shop starting from now all the way until Christmas.  We have lots of cool stuff that will make awesome gifts for the holidays, and we just released new toddler tees that are super cute!  Head on over to svdelos.com/shop and check em out!

Sending big hugs and lots of love from snowy Sweden!

Cool episode again, awesome editing and music choice too! That wreck was first funny and then eerily beautiful like The Shape of Water. And yeah, about where to stay - my dad has a childhood friend who has a Swan on the Caribbean, he lives here in Finland and goes there to sail whenever he can.

Janne Peltonen

If the only thing you published was Sierras 6 inch bike ride and her double fist pump and “whoo hoooo”….. I’d still subscribe.

Andrew Lee... lost, at sea!

Oh my Brian are you a testudophile? Wow I never knew, well........

SV Trippin'

That turtle definitely wanted Brian

James Owens

Such a super cool place you cruised to! I love seeing how happy you are when you are immersed in nature. That dive was epic! The turtle encounter was magical…and always love seeing Sierra having the best time learning about the natural world around her! And so happy she is enjoying being in daycare in Sweden. Thanks for this lovely experience!

Marisa Conner

I didn't see your girlfriend, but a turtle was on top of that pillar, just like in your dive! There was one sitting on the bow too. Lovely dive.

Mike Harrington (MV Gallivant)

Ohhh nice! Enjoy Mike, say hi to my turtle girlfriend down there if you see her!

Sailing SV Delos

Thanks Jim, so glad you enjoyed this one! I love all the history behind shipwrecks its so fascinating, and the turtle was just the icing on the cake!

Sailing SV Delos

Thanks Lance, we were SOOO happy to be back in full cruiser mode and blowing bubbles again!

Sailing SV Delos

Yeah and it could be really cool to a dive themed Q&A too! We will add that to our list for future topics!

Sailing SV Delos

Lets get it onnnnnnnn hahahah

Sailing SV Delos

Sounds hectic, definitely much different than your average recreational course today! But that's really interesting about the wrecks around Okinawa, never really thought about Japan as a diving destination but it makes total sense actually.

Sailing SV Delos

We hired a voice actor on Fiverr haha, he did such a great impression!

Sailing SV Delos

Haha I know we were cracking up so much at that too 😂

Sailing SV Delos

Thanks so much David, glad you enjoyed this one 😊

Sailing SV Delos

Ohhh yes some of those groupers are just insane! And they seem to always find you when you're in a tight spot haha

Sailing SV Delos

Yes we need to update the map on the intro!

Sailing SV Delos

Thanks William!

Sailing SV Delos

So glad you enjoyed Victoria 😊 We loved this episode so much too, so many giggles in this one!

Sailing SV Delos

Haha we got a voice actor from Fiverr, the internet is such a wonderful place haha. And thanks for the heads up on the end of the video, we fixed it now :)

Sailing SV Delos

That would be so amazing to have a little weekend cruiser for summers for sure! And yes we are so happy to bring some back to back diving episodes, it's about time we've missed it so much!

Sailing SV Delos

Bill and Grace are the best, they've become part of the family for sure over the years...andddd it always helps to bribe them with dive tank refills in exchange for helping with Sierra while we dive 😂

Sailing SV Delos

What a delightful video and a wonderful surprise! I'm sitting on my boat in La Paz, getting ready to leave for a dive trip to the Fen in about an hour! Thanks for the great video. I'll keep an eye out for your turtle buddy!

Mike Harrington (MV Gallivant)

Wow! This was an awesome episode! The cruiser lifestyle is in full swing and the diving was phenomenal! Loved the "Attenbury". The shipwreck is a fantastic story and the life it now breeds is awesome. Your dive was amazing! That turtle was so interested and that ship was so interesting. Great job all around guys! Be well my friends!

Jim Krieger

Thanks for posting and sharing. So nice to see you all enjoying the anchorage, and diving.

Lance Daniels

That turtle had the Barry White playing on repeat! I love it!! ♥️♥️♥️

SV Raven

My PADI cert was similar in 1973. Mine was a semister long community college course. Every pool dive was a lesson in underwater harrasment. And their method was similar to what you experienced, just not at a depth of 70 feet. And their motivation was the same...."Don't panic underwater". The rule for us was if you go to the surface it's an automatic F and you're were out of the class

William Gross

In case you didn’t see my post in a previous episode, Brad of Swiftsure Yachts who I believe sold you Delos has passed away. Thought you might want to know.

Shelly Ackerman

Brian - in a future Q&A, it would be really interesting to hear you talk about any emotions you felt in the moment, as you encountered the turtle. Was it awe, a sense of connectedness with nature, curiosity, etc. As a viewer of the experience, it was remarkable. Hearing you share your thoughts on the experience would be very cool.

Tom Caban

Hi Brian...You asked about Patron diving experiences. Back in 1967, I was stationed on Okinawa for two years with the Air Force. I joined a diving club called the Reef Rovers. I was new to diving, so I had to get my NAUI certification before I could dive. The military command enlisted the Navy to teach the diving classes. All training was done in the ocean, and our instructors were Navy divers..., some were also Seals. One of the last "test" in their program was called the "Confidence Dive" . We dove down to about 70 feet, and the Navy instructors would take turns physically harrasing us, like pulling off our mask, yanking the regulators out of our mouths, removing our dive fins, and tumbling our bodies.., in short trying to get us panic. They were always ready to rescue us in case, but you get the idea. Then the last test was a free assent without any air. I still remember that dive. I guess civilian dive courses had similar test, but the Navy instructors were far from gentle with their trainees. Okinawa was divers paradise, especially the China Sea side of the island. Many wrecks from WWII littered the bottom, and the sea life was beyond description. Great memories still to this day. Much Love to your guys...See you on the next tack !

Mickey Finn

Ha! Who did the Attenborough voice-over? Well done! Greetings from NYC!

Chris and Claudia Stothard

Fabulous video!! Loved the voice over and that crazy turtle. Loved the Nugs when asked if she wanted to swim. Sweden, definitely!

CATHERINE HACKETT

Amazing what you can get on Fiver these days 😁

Sailing SV Delos

Sounds like it’s time to breath underwater again 😀

Sailing SV Delos

Very true they are awesome 🤩

Sailing SV Delos

What a lovely and graceful video. The combination of the drone, surface and underwater videos combined with the low key soundtrack was terrific. Thank you.

David Benefiel

Awesome video guys, thanks! Got certified with NAUI in '86 while living in Tucson - we dove out of San Carlos, usually at San Pedro Island. Like swimming in an aquarium - most memorable encounter? While exploring in between the submerged rocks, coming face to face with a Grouper bigger than me (I believe you know the feeling . . .) :)

Daniel James

You should use a different color dotted line for your second circumnavigation on your opening credit map. I’d pick Sweden as well, because it’s close to Norway.

Scott Leak

Beautiful work.

William Domb

What an awesome episode guys! Loved the voice over and vibe this week (every week!). Also - I noticed there are a couple minutes at the end as well (Jeff mentioned above) with no footage - just confirmation it may not be a fluke on one person's computer. Can't wait till next Friday!

Victoria Makris

Wonderful video. Who was the mystery "David Attenborough" voice artist? Oh, btw, there's several minutes of black on the tail end of the video...or maybe it's just my computer.

Jeff Fischer

If moving to sweden for the summers and leaving Delos somewhere warm and nice for the wintertime, wouldn´t a "miniDelos", like a 40´ , be nice to have and summer-cruise the swedish waters in be a splendid idea? And by the way, the Attenborough "cameo" is more than fitting! That was some gorgeous fotage, worthy to be in one of the programs sir David would narrate! (I don´t remember ever seing him diving, if annybody know if he does/did, I´d be more than happy to learn of it! ) Thank you for this one, the teaser sure promise even moore diving-delight for next week! Hope the snowmen on gotland haven´t melted yet, and that you find some gotlandsdrikku to quensh your thirst with! Till next time: fair winds and following seas!

Klas Andersson

Wow that’s was amazing so loved that turtle and the voice over was priceless ❤️

Lisa & Claude

Thank you for another great video. I loved the faux celebrity voiceover!

Jeff Mack

It’s a brown booby!

Michael Williams

Awesome video!!! I can't wait till we make it to the Sea of Cortez!!! I got my PADI cert in 1973. For 2 to 3 years in the mid to late 70's I probably made close to 200 dives per year (every one a working dive of some sort) Even did some commercial diving doing underwater work on boats. Never logged even one of them. You'd think there would have been some sort of "out of the ordinary". Sorry, nothing. Perhaps it was because I was rarely aware of my surroundings, always focused on what we were hunting. Lobster, (Oh how I disliked night dives), spearfishing or popping abalone (I hold partial responibility for the current moratorium in Southern California on the taking of abalone). All those dives..... it was a rare occurence I made it to the surface with air in my tank. Yeah, I'm not known for following all the rules. Coolest dive was one of my last. We were in Cancun on the Maya Riviera. I made a cenote dive with a group. We entered one cenote, did about a 200 yard cave dive and came up in a different cenote and then back to the first. Awesome halocline. And you're right, it's like riding a bike. It's been years since I've had a regulator in my mouth, but would not hesitate to bite down on another and jump in...... Just not with my 50 year old AMF swimmaster that is currently in storage. That and my Fenzy BC, LOL

William Gross

Hej Maria!

Sailing SV Delos

This was so fun! Thank you! I know it was fun for you too but we get to experience it as well. So grateful that you have Bill and Grace to allow you to have a babysitting option now and then - relationship saver as well as a income/lifestyle necessity!

Shelly Ackerman

Ha ha priceless right? :)

Sailing SV Delos

När ni pratade om vart ni skulle kunna tänka er bo (iallafall halva året) så kom jag och tänka på frågan hur länge tror ni att ni kommer orka filma ert liv? Ser ni det som något ni fortsätter med om säg 10 år?

Maria Levin

Oh that is so right.. somewhat that big and gentle and docile... but big enough to squish you with just a flick of a tail. Lol

CHRISTOPHER DOFF-SOTTA

It turns out this entire area is part of the Mexican National Park system. They have a pretty well laid out website, and booklet with all the rules and such like no anchoring zones, where you can go ashore, etc. There is also a fee we had to pay but the yearly park pass for all of Mexico was only $60 US so we just opted for that.

Sailing SV Delos

Hope you have a fantastic Friday Erica, sending you lot's of love from an also very chilly, dark, and wet Sweden.

Sailing SV Delos

Yeah, it's pretty crazy experience. We got to swim with them in Madagascar and Philippines. It made us feel like truly small mammals in comparison....

Sailing SV Delos

Loved the narration.... LOL! That turtle did look horny Brian. I also loved the look on Bill and Grace's face when you told them that Nugget hadn't pooped yet!

Bill Dapp

Ha ha too funny right? :)

Sailing SV Delos

It's so rewarding to see what good friends Bill and Grace are! It's difficult to find and keep couple friends, especially as you age. The four of you have such a good thing, cherish and nurture it! Also, I'd have to agree with Sweden for the inevitable dropping of roots. I've never been there, but everything I've seen, read, and watched indicates that they have really figured out how to run a country. Cheers Delos!

Sean Martin

That turtle was hysterical with the narration. When sailing in remote places like this, does anyone own the land? Is it government land and how do you know it’s ok to go ashore?

Sean Murray

Ah this was the perfect Friday morning video for the cold and rainy weather in Atl right now. So many wows watching this one ! What an insane dive experience! The shots of the turtle were so beautiful.

Erica

when i was stationed in africa in 2011 several of us were invited to swim with whale sharks... just seeing one of those up close was awesome.. but heres the catch .. THEY ARE HUGE and for some reason my 6ft4 but was to nervous to even debate about getting in the water with them .. i backed out .. lol . here i am a suppose to be big military guy and i said HELL NO .. i will admit they were wonderful to see. but the size is just huge .. i regret it now .. lol

CHRISTOPHER DOFF-SOTTA

Nugget’s expression at seeing underwater is awesome. Enjoyed this video immensely. Loved your celebrity guest and his voice-over! Cheers guys.
