This Is Why We Gave Up Everything and BOUGHT A BOAT! Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 394

Hey Hey Delos Tribe!

We've got another feel good episode comin' at ya this week! It pretty much ticks all the boxes of what we love in an episode...good sailing conditions, adventures with our family and amazing friends, margaritas, and of course some boat work to balance everything out.

In this episode we go on our first proper land mission.  We hike from one side of the island we were anchored at to the other via a stunning valley that is full of cacti everywhere.  Something about the desert just feels incredibly special and fascinating, it's so different than our usual cruiser habitat of white sandy beaches and palm trees.  It's pretty wild when we think about all the different environments Delos has been in over the last year...The rainforests and mangroves of Panama, a fresh water lake 85 feet above sea level in the middle of the Panama Canal, the wild jungle of Costa Rica with howler monkeys echoing through the anchorages, an all inclusive beach resort marina in one of the busiest tourist spots in Mexico, and now here we were in this magic wonderland where the desert meets the sea standing under a cactus that's as tall as a house.  Moment's like these make us realize how truly special our lifestyle is, and we are so incredibly grateful for all the support and love you have given us to make this all possible.

Sending lots of love from dark, snowy Sweden!

While watching this episode, my husband and I found an answer to “what can we give away as prizes?” …. broken parts Brian pulls out of Delos. They could go to a fan instead of the landfill.

Yep we have a dedicated locker where we store extra fuel and we have room for used oil and trash in there until we get to a town where we can dispose of it properly. We also try and throw away as much packaging as we can after we provision and we throw organic waste (like veggie scraps, fruit peels, etc.) overboard so we usually don't have too much trash to do deal with in comparison to the average household.

We can't WAIT for her to be able to dive with us!

The landscape here is so insane! Working on these videos has us SO EXCITED to get back and keep exploring next year :)

Good details on the oil change. Where do you put the waste when not near a marina? Just hold onto it? Actually, where do you put any of your garbage?

Sean Murray

It looks like you have a budding scuba partner in your family. Her reaction to the fish was priceless.

The Southwestern desert is indeed a special place. I miss boating / diving in San Carlos. Hope we can connect in Tucson or Rocky Point when you return from Sweden.

I love the sea of Cortez! Spent quite a lot of time there on a couple of boats. The diving is amazing, and it’s good thing there’s a lot of that beautiful turquoise water, because it gets really hot, and if you couldn’t dive off the side of the boat, it would be hard to spend much time there. I’m confused about your engine now, you show pictures of it saying Perkins, and then you record the stuff in the log for a Volvo. I’m pretty sure it’s a Volvo that you have, but what’s up with the Perkins pictures?

Mark Gumprecht

Y'all are roll models! In two years I hope to be following y'alls amazing inspiration on the open seas.

Great video guys! The desert is beautiful and it doesn't get any better than being able to sail to it. Enjoy a sundowner or two for all of us that are still landlocked!

David Huval

Great video guys. Love the full moons! 🤣 Y’all keep those amazing spirits up! So much fun. Peace, Love, and chicken grease!
