Our WHOLE LIFE Is On The Line...Is this the RIGHT CALL? Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 399

We proudly present Part 1 of one of the most intense experiences we've ever had on board.  As Hurricane Kay began to develop, we quickly realized that we needed to start making some moves- not only to try and create distance between ourselves and its projected path, but also because our insurance would only cover  anything that might happen to Delos in a named storm if we were north of a certain latitude.  But the decision of how we should respond was for from easy to make- as forecasts changed and information started reaching us from other cruisers in different locations, our heads started to spin a bit.  The stakes were high, and we HAD to get this right.  This was an extremely exhausting time for us mentally and emotionally...the anticipation, the unknowns, the weight of the decisions that we needed to make, the preparation, the anxiety...We hope you enjoy this episode as we explore some of these feelings, share how we go about making decisions like these and processing the information available to us, and take you through how we prepare for the serious weather that was headed our way.

In other news, we are so stoked to report that everything is going great here in the yard, thanks in no small part to a special guest who just arrived a few days ago...SUPER RYAN!  It's been great catching up with this absolute legend, and of course having another set of hands to keep things moving in the right direction.  Also, just in case you missed it, we made a post a few days ago about a Patrons only meetup!  Here's the link to the post with all the details:

Hope everyone is having a beautiful Friday, sending lots of love from the whole fam <3

Doesn't matter that I know this ends okay for y'all - I was riveted and teary-eyed! Awesome video! β™₯️

WOW how can people leave there boats at anchor during a storm and not be there when $h!t happens?? Glad you guys are safe, Cheers!

SV Trippin'

So scary! It does help to know you are ok BEFORE watching these!!!😊❀️

Shelly Ackerman

I am so glad I know how this ends! I can read the anxiety on your faces.

Janet Dupree

Yeah we ended up seeing some clips from the other boats in Puerto Don Juan where we were originally headed for, and we did way better in San Carlos. Was still a very intense experience though, can't imagine what it would be like to be in the eye of it on the water

Thanks so much Steve :)

You definitely made the right decision. As we were reminded with this past year's hurricane in Florida, that cone on the map indicates where the EYE of the storm may go, not the entire storm itself. Very important to consider when figuring out where to go. Glad you made it through okay.❀️⛡️

Stay safe guys play it smart and everything should work out fine for you.

You have become such wonderful story tellers, filmmakers and educators!. You also seem to have found a wonderful balance in so many things. Be well. S.

I saw this coming, since it already happened. But this should be good, . . . another (almost?) disaster! 8 - O
