Patron's Only Real Time Update! (New Crew and everything breaks 🙈 )

Hey fam!  So unfortunately there isn't going to be an episode today as we've been so busy trying to do deal with all the minor catastrophes on board lately, but we wanted to just say hello and get everyone up to speed with what's going on, and also to introduce our new crew member who will be joining us for the Pacific Crossing!

As we mentioned in the video, leave us a comment if you have any cool ideas for themes/topics/cool stuff that we could film during the Pacific Crossing in addition to the normal filming that we do.  (This is seperate from all the amazing Ocean Crossing Q&A questions that you sent in, we are going to be filming and releasing that video prior to leaving La Paz :)

Lots of love from all of us!

This was a nice update! And the back of the boat looks so much better without the dome IMHO :D

Janne Peltonen

Sorry to hear about the equipment failures, but better in the Sea of Cortez than during the Pacific crossing. Best of luck and fair winds for the trip.

Gravytrain

Well, I'm trying to get them an "Iridium Go" Executive - Faster newer and works much better than the older "Iridium Go" unit. I work for Iridium and while they were staying at my house in Penasco, I started the paperwork. Still waiting approval :( - Hopefully it will still happen!

TomSchlott

Since the dome is gone, what are you planning, communications-wise while you cross the Pacific?

Jean-Sebastien Dorais

Everything is made to be broken. Everything is made well by the good and true Captain Bri-on. Chris Rock: We make the Space Shuttle .. goes 25000 MPH and comes back thru 2200 Degrees of fire to the Earth ..... and you're tellin me we can't make a Cadillac that the bumper don't fall off? Keep 'em flyin

Bonne Mike

Seems sailboats and 100 year old houses have something in common. There is always something that needs fixing.

Burke Eschler

What are you guys doing for internet in the pacific?

Sammy the Ditch Doctor

Your latest videos of all the boat upgrades and repairs are really given us a bird’s eye view of what sailing is like. We have learned so much. Thank you again

Michael Gentile

Hello Delos!!!!

Michael Gentile

Srsly, the gremlins came to stay in your boat when it was on the hard! So sorry but also glad you’ve had this shakedown to find it all and get it corrected before you head out into bluewater!

Colleen Balch

I was wondering the same! Was really happy to see the Starlink in the background. Will be fascinating to hear about your experience with it!

Tom Caban

I second the motion

Sean Murray

After Fench Polynesia what will the next place be? New Zealand?

Adam McLean- Harvey

If you’re buddy sailing on the crossing maybe some sweet “drone transfer” footage where you start on one boat, continue the story on another boat etc …

Telly

Will there be a Brady and blue cameo?

Capt. Dustin LaBorde

Is there any way that we can track you guys on the way?

Bill Dapp

Maybe for passage videos you could occasionally reference your current location with respect to "What happened here?" (e.g., historic sailing voyages, battles, etc.). Or "What's down there?" (e.g., scientific research on sea floor conditions, or deep water creatures). If anyone could make that interesting, it's you guys!

Jeff Fischer

Good eye William.

Lowell McCormick

"reading" and "cribbage"

William Houck

So many parts in a transmission. That is the one mechanical system I don't mess with.

William Houck

There is a starlink receiver on the deck in the background @6:03

William Houck

I mighta missed something, but you didn't mention the Starlink receiver on the deck next to the mast...am I ruining the surprise or does that exclusion have to do with the sponsorship by the satDome company?

William Houck

Hey Paul, we were LITERALLY just talking about this today!

Sailing SV Delos

And what do you have planned for Sierra’s Shellback ceremony?!?! Muahaha! 🤣

Michael Williams

First port o’call?

Michael Williams

This has likely been already done (since humans have been crossing oceans for quite a while now), but I'd like to see a "How do we keep from getting bored" segment. 20 days is a long time. Lots of reading and cribbage?

Derek LANE

Have you guys thought about doing a former crew update video, what are they up to know, how did their time in Delos impact what they are doing now, etc.

Paul

I'd be keen on a Starlink/internet review periodically on (and after) your crossing.

Derek LANE

Right on! Reach out if anything changes. 👍

Tim and Kelsey

Hey thanks guys! We have a friend in San Diego that is going to drive it across the border into Tijuana to clear customs then send it domestic freight so hopefully we will have it next week! But if not great to have that offer. Cheers!

Sailing SV Delos

Yeah, I opened it up and there was nothing obvious unfortunately. They have ageeed to replace it under warranty so that’s good news! Just gotta get it here now….

Sailing SV Delos

Sleek as all hell. Gotta be worth a kt. Like putting a go faster stripe on a car 😂

The Bumbling Sailor

We have one more crew joining but he won’t arrive until just before we set out. Although Starlink not officially supported in French Polynesia we have heard reports that it is working ok so we are hopeful!

Sailing SV Delos

PredictWind is sending us a new Irodium Go Exec which should be a good improvement over the old Iridium. Also even though Starlink doesn’t show French Polynesia as officially supported we have heard from others that is working. Not perfect, but good enough so we are hopeful!

Sailing SV Delos

So clean right?

Sailing SV Delos

Our plan is to make landfall in Marquesas, and hopefully spend a full year in French Polynesia. We’ve dreamed of Patagonia and S American coast for a long time now. I know we will do it at some point but for now we feel the call of the SE trades and tropical islands :)

Sailing SV Delos

We're headed down the peninsula in a few weeks. If you have the time to wait we could likely fit a transmission in our truck.

Tim and Kelsey

Hope all gets resolved soon! For one topic it would be fun to see Sierra’s favorite activities on a long passage…books, toys, games she likes to play, etc. She is at such a fun age and so fun to watch!

Marisa Conner

Here's a suggestion for the Pacific crossing. Since I enjoy Flat Earth debunking videos, perhaps you could go up the mast one day, pan 360 degrees, and show that there is no land in sight. You could even do this when you're only 80 miles from land. That way the water curve would block the view of the land, that if it was flat, should be visible from 80 miles.

Scott C. Wise

Brian...just a suggestion on the transmission. Not sure the exact symptoms, but I remember Jordan on Atticus had something similar. The mechanic couldn't fix it so they sent it to a trans shop. It turned out to be a stupid problem, the arm attached to the shifting control shaft was not tight enough, so the arm kept slipping instead of turning the shaft. The mechanic tightened the arm, and that fixed the problem. I doubt you have the same issue, but what the hell...thought Id throw that in. See you on the next tack !

Mickey Finn

Back into the fray? It's SV Delos Friday!

Scott C. Wise

I'm surprised that you don't have another crewmember or two. Will you be getting Starlink? Or will we see future episodes revolving around finding the fastest internet connection on remote islands?

Lowell McCormick

Well they don't call them shake down cruises for nothing! Quite a list of stuff to fix before the Ocean crossing! Tranny failure is a bit disconcerting and hope you find the root cause and it is not a design defect? Tell us about Hanna and her sailing background sometime! We are inland ICW cruisers taking the Okie Hokie up to the Chesapeake next month...and prepping her now. Provisioning is....slightly easier for us than you guys! Cheers, Skip

Skip Vail

Typical cruiser conversation: "Where ya been?" "Where ya going?" "What's broken?" Good luck and safe travels.

David Lochner

Hu guys -It must be quite an adjustment to let the viasat go - does this mean you'll fall back to the old ways of getting weather etc (iridium?) / ssb / navtex - or have you got another satellite data provider lined up?

Keith Bailey

She looks so different without the dome!

The Bumbling Sailor

I was sort of hopeful that you guys would explore the west coast of South America before setting sail across the pacific. Nobody seems to do that. That said, what mid pacific islands are you heading to first?

Jeremy Kamel

Listen, take your time. Listen again, or time may be taken.

Joe and Karrie Cirino

Ha! No worries! Be safe and get her ready, sounds like an awesome journey. I’d love to know all of your planning. What it really takes… I’d love to be able to make that jump one day. Cheers!
