Haha. Thank you Elon for Skylink! πŸ˜†

We would definitely leave the design as is. I have heard of some stories too, but we have never had any issues. I think some designs have too small of an opening which can lead to jamming problems. But ours has always worked very well and it’s been quite a few miles in varios conditions. We can reef quickly in nearly all wind conditions and directions by paying attention to the o the main sheet tension when we’re furling.

That cheered me right up.

I was in the Navy (1972-1976) with VA-95 on the Coral Sea CVA-43. One favorite pastime when not on duty was to β€œRide the Bow”. You would sit on the bow with your feet on the steel safety net and while away the time. On both the trans PAC to the Philippines and the passage south to Perth, Australia, the ship would rock in and out of time with BIG swells. The bulbous bow would come completely out of the water. When the timing was right, the ship would nosedive into the next swell, and the bow wave would shoot out in front of the ship, with the back spray drenching us. So. Much. Fun. During that cruise I vowed to go back to sea on a ship that was not painted grey.

Thankfully, finally they announced a maritime plan that is somewhat affordable for recreational cruisers. Hardware is 4 times the cost of the RV or residential hardware and the plan for 50GB priority data available in nearly all the oceans is twice as much the cost of the RV plan. It is still quite some investment but it makes me so exciting to see that there is so much improvement to the plans and overall technology. What I don’t like about the maritime dishy is the power consumption is significantly higher compared to dishy for residential or RV plan.

No doubt Connor's fish was dumping serious bio-chemicals as it was suffocating and being knifed. The bleed out method of a live fish is not the best practice to ensure quality taste. Just think about how beef cattle are killed. Instant death to prevent chemical dump and then bled. I have been practicing Ike Jime for 3+ years now on all near and off-shore fish I harvest. I can definitely tell a difference in the quality of taste in a fish that has been quickly dispatched with at the least the brain spike method. Connor's tuna was probably a bit too small for utilizing the circuit breaker technique.

Bill

I know her speech is developing more and more by the day, so amazing to see her learning and growing all the time πŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ₯°

Hi Brain...enjoyed the update, especially bow surfing! Oh...and the tea party!!! Best way to dispatch a fish for consumption, bar none, IKE JIME. https://ikejimefederation.com/ https://ikejimefederation.com/a-beginners-guide-to-traditional-ike-jime/ https://www.aftco.com/blogs/ocean-to-table/the-complete-guide-to-ike-jime

Bill

Great update. Sierra yelling TUNA was awesome. Are you using Starlink? Amazing tech.

Rick

Thanks for the update! Especially when unexpected! Fair Winds!

Peter Kane

Very cool! Good to see the crew morale is high! What is your Starlink plan? Is it RV plan?

Erdem Arican

Hey Brian, if/when you decide to replace standing rigging, if you ever replace the mast, would you go with an in-mast furling system again or would you refit with a traditional raise on a track, lower to reef etc? I’ve never sailed with in-mast furler and have heard horror stories about failures at the wrong weather moment. Thanks for your thoughts!

Colleen Balch

Awesome! Thanks so much for this! β™₯️

Patricia

Wishing I was there with you instead of working crazy hours. Stay safe and keep posting so us land locked tribe members can live vicariously through you.
