1 Month ALONE On A Deserted Island (NO OTHER HUMANS) 🏝️ Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 444

Hey hey friends!  We're happy to report that we're posting this video safe, sound and back on Delos after our trip to Australia. We have lots to tell you all about it, but that's for another day 😉 We are very happy to share this new episode with you, it's such a fun one!  We're back in Raroia (remember this was the atoll we raced Colin to when we left the Marquesas) except this time we're the ONLY boat here.  Most sailors have either continued on to New Zealand due to visas/cyclone season, or they've made it back to the Marquesas to dodge cyclone season.  We weren't really sure how long we would stay for...maybe a few days if a good weather window came to keep pushing east against the trades...but days turned into weeks, and before we knew it an entire month flew by without spotting another human.  So crazy!  It's been such a long time since we've been this isolated.  It was a very cool experience, and we got into such a good routine there.  Spending hours in the water every day, exploring, working out, paddle boarding, watching sunsets on the bow.  It was a very peaceful and content time in our lives for sure, and quite a unique experience to have as a family.  What's the longest you've ever gone without seeing another person?  Where were you and what were you doing? How did it feel?

We hope everyone is staying warm out there, and we are sending you a big, sweaty, sunny hug from the Marquesas Islands ☀️

Dusty Ritz

Very cool happy for you and helping on the build would awesome. Where’s the foil board storage 😉

Richard S Florence

obsessed with the octopi making their way into the last couple videos!!! Something I haven't seen in person!

That was up on a local hill called Mt Washington. It's not the famous Mt Washington in New Hampshire. Ours is located between Bath and Urbana, NY. It's also close to Hammondsport, NY where Glen Curtiss designed and flew the first "flying boat" on Keuka Lake. The flying boat became more commonly known as the sea plane. BTW - I didn't see hide nor hair of any white tail deer during that "hunting" trip. : - \

I opted out of the entire length of the PCT and only did the Washington side because I'm totally biased. Time yourself at your walking pace and then go about two miles slower and walk the whole damn day. I grew up hiking around close to Mt St Helen's and I'm afraid I would wreck my knees for life if I did the whole length of it now.

Thanks Shelly, so glad you enjoyed this one :) Ohhh the manta swims really were something special, the footage doesn't even do it justice how amazing it was. We would love to return here once Cyclone season passes and we started heading west again

That octopus was so wild! The Tuamotus really are one of our favorite cruising grounds ever, we're counting down the days till we can make a break for it and head back out :)

Sailing SV Delos

I know right!!! So many unanswered questions! We're dying to know as well!

Sailing SV Delos

Right back at ya Frank :)

Sailing SV Delos

Yeah we learned how to prepare these guys the last time when we stopped in Raroia from some buddy boats we'd been hanging out with...quite a pleasant treat!

Sailing SV Delos

It's always our pleasure to brighten up your day Myra!

Sailing SV Delos

Thanks you two, we feel so incredibly lucky that we are able to share these experiences with her, and yes I'm sure we will all get a kick out of rewatching these videos together when she gets older 🥰

Sailing SV Delos

They were soooo good 🤤 Chef Breeyawn and Kazzatron at your service!

Sailing SV Delos

Doctor Nugget! Hahaha she is quite the cultured toddler we must say, she's seen more in her life already than I did until my 30s!

Sailing SV Delos

So happy we can bring some peace and good vibes to ya!

Sailing SV Delos

Seriously they are the strangest, coolest animals ever, they are so unlike any other creature we've ever encountered...and we've NEVER had an experience like this before 🤯

Sailing SV Delos

Sounds like a great new years resolution!!!

Sailing SV Delos

Oh my goodness 10 days locked down at home 🙈 It's one thing to be alone on a beautiful island but being home alone that long sounds TOUGH! We were so lucky to have the Covid experience we did in the Bahamas....what a wild time that was for the whole world

Sailing SV Delos

Sounds pretty legit to me Scott, where was that?

Sailing SV Delos

Love our little octo buddies 🥰 Oh wow PCT must have been quite an adventure, how long did it take you? Did you do the whole thing?

Sailing SV Delos

How awesome was this video! I loved all the octopi! Wow! And some of the video shots of Kazza swimming, made me feel like I was there too! What a wonderful experience to have! And to share with us! Thank you! Loved it!!

Shelly Ackerman

Gonna be tough giving up videos like this for boat building ones. Hard to top such a magical place. Oh and I think that was a rabid octopus.

Sean Murray

what a wicked place to hang out... I'm fascinated with that concrete building ?!? Who built it? Why did you build it? What were you doing in it? How long ago did you build it? How did you actually build it?! Thank you as always for sharing your adventures. Have a wonderful weekend.

Brian Travis

You guys are so cool, Peace and Love.

Frank

I used to eat a lot of crabs when I lived in Annapolis, but I didn’t know there were edible land crabs. Looks yummy.

I love how you guys just casually shifted gears into a cooking vlog for a few minutes, those crab cakes looked amazing!! Thank you for sharing your slice of isolated paradise. Definitely a nice way to end a work week. :)

Sean Martin

Sierra will have her PhD in World before even finishing elementary school!

Michael Williams

What a great experience for the family. Just watching this made me feel relaxed and chill!

Jeff Mack

Friday lunches watching Delos are the best! I'm convinced Octopus are aliens. Their abilities blow me away.

Michael Conway

No isolation stories..yet. Me and the wife are hoping to start overlanding in the future. Hopefully we’ll have some stories in the future! 😉🙏🏻🙂

Kent Wadenpfuhl

During the pandemic… in my home in rural Vermont, probably 10 days until the grocery situation required contact.

Colleen Balch

Oh, Time to watch! This was wonderful! As for being alone, my longest time may have been a "hunting" trip where I camped in the middle of some woods for three days. But there was a road not too far away and I sometimes heard vehicles driving along it. But does that count as seeing another person? I don't think so.

Scott C. Wise

Karen saying dude is the cutest thing after seeing and meeting the bravest octopus in the world. Being up in on the Pacific Crest Trail is about the most remote I have ever been without seeing anyone for days. A pretty good feeling, abundant wildlife, amazing views and a hospital is an after thought.
