Progress Update

There's two different major types of video that I do. One is a walkthrough/tutorial type video. These take a lot of work but they're relatively fast to make once I've researched and scripted it. I record me doing the thing and talking you through it, sometimes re-record certain sections, stitch it together, edit the audio, add in any helpful diagrams or useful video magic, add in the credits, apply a bit of polish throughout and then render uncompressed.

Then compress with MeGUI (I don't like premiere's default tools for this.) build a thumbnail, write the meta data and upload.

Ok yeah that's quite a bit of work and I've missed some steps there, but the main video work gets recorded pretty quickly. The other type of video I make is a whole different kettle of fish. I'm talking videos like the one I did on shaders , and GMS2's camera system . These are a joy to make and probably the most rewarding and fulfilling kind of thing I make for YouTube generally. They're not walkthroughs rather than "talkthroughs" and let me be creative with the visuals as I'm not just showing you "what I'm doing" rather I'm explaining something conceptually.

Problem is I have to create all those visuals and effects from scratch and that takes mad time

As you already know I'm working on a GMS2 vs GMS1 comparison video. I've recorded all the audio and I'm hard at work creating a fun and hopefully useful video for everyone who is on the fence or unsure about GMS2. (For the record, I think it's pretty good! I wouldn't go back for sure, but if you don't have $99 lying around and you're mid project I'd maybe give it some time before you climb aboard the 2.0 ship. Hey that was pretty simple, why am I making this video again?)

It's a lot of fun to work on, but it is taking a long time to fully cook. After this one I'll be doing some more of my classic style of tutorial video.  I want to make sure people coming into GMS2 have a great base to get started from so I'm looking at some basic stuff like a GMS2 platformer and also continuing to cover the newer stuff in GMS2 like the cool stuff you can do with tilemaps, layers, cameras and so on.

other than videos I have been:

It's been a busy one!

I know you guys are due an update video rather than an update blog post, but I figure it's better I put the time into actually getting this particular video out the door than recording myself talking about how long the video is taking. I originally thought doing monthly update videos would be cool but maybe this is a better use of my time? Let me know what you'd prefer. If you want video then by god I'll make video.

if anybody has any questions, suggestions, etc, I encourage leaving comments! Thank you all again, endlessly, for supporting my work.
