Dissolve shader released!

Hello everyone! I came to a bit of a wall with the video, in the meantime I decided to properly clean up and release my dissolve shader.

https://shaunjs.itch.io/dissolve-shader

As a commercial work, it is free for everyone who pledges $20+. If you head over to this page you should be able to link an itch account to your patreon account to verify your identity! Neat huh?

This is a bit experimental, I don't know if itch/patreon verifies that you are a pledger or that you have paid at least one time. I'm guessing based on how Patreon seems to work generally it doesn't. So this sort of thing will be an experimental act of trust until somebody ruins it I suppose!

Also I like the model I used previously for my Platformer asset, whereby I created a tutorial you could watch freely, or pay for access. I'm tempted to follow this up with a tutorial at some point if you guys are interested. For now it's just $5, which given I offer most of my stuff for free or PWYW I know is higher than normal but I feel is fair for the work and knowledge involved in making it.

It'll make its way to the GameMaker Marketplace too if you prefer having it in your library.

I think I've worked out how to proceed with the music video, but after testing some stuff I've had to rethink a bit of the content. More on that tomorrow!

Dissolve shader released!

Well it needs pixels to work with so if you've stretched a 1x1 pixel it's not going to work the same way because it only has one pixel. You'd need to instead use a surface or a larger sprite. I can't remember off the top of my head if this has settings within the scripts to work with surfaces but I believe it does.

How can I make the shader work on any size object? I have a 1x1 pixel sprite/object that I stretch in the room to cover an area until time to reveal it. I have the shader set to dissolve when an action occurs but the script seems to be negating the resize of the in room stretched sprite .

Hm, I don't think this will quite give you the look you're going for but it depends. Unsure how I would approach such a thing myself really, lots of ways but they'd all be a bit tricky if I wanted to be able to do it dynamically to any sprite.

do you think this could be tweaked to make an effect that looks like something is on fire? I've wanted to apply an effect to enemies where they catch on fire. I'm not sure if a shader like this is the best way
