Week 4 - $1000!
Added 2018-01-22 13:53:46 +0000 UTCSo I guess it's (fairly) safe to say we hit the $1k goal! This is fantastic news and I guess that patreon ad video was well worth the time to make. So what does this functionally mean?
It means I can do this work long term. Until now I'd been eating at my savings or at best breaking even while I do this work. The only thing really filling the gap was high paying freelance gigs which are super few and far between. Since hitting around $6-800 I was already treating this as my full time gig a bit pre-emptively, but now it's actually justified. I'm earning a wage from this work combined with my ad revenue, game sales, etc.
It's not a huge wage but it's enough to sustain me doing this stuff while putting away tiny amounts each month for the "Maybe owns my own home one day" mad dream fund. This was may main goal to sustain this work and the most important one for me to hit. Everything from here on out is extra power to make this work better.
I would still love to kill the ads one day, and will happily do so if the work is fully paid for ahead of time. In about $440 more dollars that could well be the case. The idea of that actually being possible now is crazy to me.
I have no income goals beyond that presently, we'll see where that bridge leads if we ever approach it, but if we do expect any extra income to go towards more + better quality resources for game developers. As that's my whole thing.
So this week?
This week we'll be advancing the platformer series! I'll leave you in suspense as to the exact topic but expect some progress updates towards the end of the week. Today however I'll be getting the source code for the weapon tutorial out to you guys (Be sure to check your messages later $5 folk) and also trying to collate the platformer source code into one convenient itch page. You may have noticed that Monday has gone from livestream day to "clean up and meta day".
Speaking of livestreams though, I'll be doing some throughout the week where I play and rate some of the games from GM48. I have to do this to get my game to qualify but also I just really enjoy doing it. I'll be trying to make sure this doesn't hamper or slow down the video work though obviously.
Shout outs to all the new folk and thanks all of you for your support in funding this work. *bows relentlessly*
