Week 36 - Lots of new plates!

Last week we wrapped up the Platformer Series, at least internally we did. Publicly that video comes out this week.

So if we're polling for the next topic, and the platformer is finished, what am I working on this week?

I'm glad you asked, self-contrived question! I've got a couple of things I'm working on in the meanwhile. I'd been keeping an eye on a cool tool recently called Pixel FX Designer. I'd seen lots of cool gifs of the tool over twitter and was about to pick it up myself when the creator reached out and offered me a key in exchange for a video review.

I'm always cautious about accepting these sorts of offers, it feels like a contradiction of why I started a Patreon in the first place to avoid the influence of any outside forces on the work that I do. But I decided in the end to take on this project mostly because:

• I'm not being paid other than through access to the tool itself
• This looks like a really good tool that could help lots of people. I would love it to do well and reach more people.

And I mean, that second point rings very true with the reasons I'm making GameMaker videos in the first place.

So I'm going to be trying out this tool and working on a review piece for it, including of course how useful it may or may not be for GameMaker developers in particular.

Secondly! Many have asked (sometimes repeatedly!) about doing a video covering other viewers and patron's projects and games. I'd love to give that a try. So I'll be putting out a quick video hopefully this week to reach out for people to submit their games. We'll see what the response is like and we'll go from there!
