BONUS: DOOM review outtakes

As you watch Action Button Reviews, you may find yourself occasionally wondering, "Does anyone have any FUN making these?" "Is his voice always like that?" or even "He probably reads these scripts flawlessly in one sitting lasting the exact length of the video's final running time, right?" Here in this backer-exclusive outtakes reel, you will find the answers to these questions (respectively: yes, no, and lmao) and perhaps even a couple more. One question you will NOT find the answer to, however, is "Who is Mcc Dave?"

Editor Ryan Taylor slammed this reel together based on my repeated insistences that I'd open a Vimeo account if he did so. Over the weekend-long shooting process of the DOOM review, I must have uttered the phrase "For The Vimeo" 300 times. If you watch this and enjoy it, it might please you to know that I might have also said "For The Vimeo" a similar number of times during the shooting of the PAC-MAN review.

Editing on that PAC-MAN review is currently underway, by the way.

The second half of this video, perhaps delightfully, includes a longer, less-cut version of my visit to my high school for the DOOM review's "DIRTBAG NATION" segment.

Speaking of that "DIRTBAG NATION" segment, I might have another, longer, less "funny" DOOM-review-related backer-exclusive video to post here next week. We'll see! I can perhaps post it along with an update about our brand-new fancy website, and our merch!

I know it might feel at this point like our upcoming brand-new website and world-shattering merch are two joke-figments of some ARG, though I promise something real is coming, and soon.

Look at it this way: did you see that DOOM video? If so, you can perhaps imagine that I will not tolerate any less-than-perfect merch. And though I do receive many concerned messages here telling me not to overdo it, not to hurt myself, and not to be too much of a perfectionist: I promise you, I'm doing just fine. I'm well past the point of perfectionism at this stage in my life. I mean, maybe I am a "perfectionist," though I'm saying that at this point it's not a struggle for me anymore. It comes naturally, I barely even feel it anymore.

I can only hope that you enjoy reaping the weird fruits of my perfectionism, because buddy, this merch is gonna be wild. I went straight to the top, and I'm working to guarantee merch of better quality than maybe a year ago I'd have allowed myself to believe my brand deserves.

Furthermore, TRUCK HECK is doing pretty darn well these days! Let me know if you want me to open a $100 backer tier for TRUCK HECK updates, which entitles you to one monthly post wherein I say "TRUCK HECK is doing pretty darn well these days!"

In all sincerity, absolutely none of this would be possible without your money, so thank you for contributing. If you keep on contributing, eventually this thing is going to grow into something particularly wild. I have some big, meticulous plans for the next couple videos, and I have some bigger, more meticulous plans for what to do immediately after this virus settles down. (Aw, man, now I'm thinkin about the virus again . . .)

Speaking of big, meticulous plans, I suppose I had better see about finishing these last four (or five?) playthroughs of Tokimeki Memorial: Forever With You. I'm . . . checking on something, and for once two whole sentences in my otherwise-finished review script depend on these 12 hours of work.

Oh! A footnote for the ethicists in the crowd: I won't make any public posts about this backer-exclusive content. I refuse to use exclusive content like this as leverage to get more backers. If you're here and you're seeing this right now, it's for you. (And it'll also be for the public at the end of the year, as part of my "Fukubukuro" ("Lucky Bag") bonanza. Which I probably shouldn't talk about just yet . . .)

Wait: here's another footnote: Patreon kinda sucks. I scheduled this post to go live at 1pm today, and when I came back, it wasn't scheduled at all. Not only that, the draft was blank. When I pasted my post back in and tried to post it, it gave me errors with the video. Patreon's text editor might be made out of recycled tin cans. If you're seeing this footnote, that means I somehow got the post to post. Oops!

I really dislike the experience of using this site. I sure do love the opportunity to connect to a community of eager viewers! Though the user experience of it--not so much.

For the vimeo keeps echoing in my mind, for the vimeo

Arvid From

could you put a link to the video in the text? I'd enjoy watching it, but vimeo is giving a "because of its privacy settings, this video cannot be played here" message.

Mrs. Policewoman

It didn't occur to me till watching these outtakes that, because of Tim's delivery style, I don't think I'd ever seen him genuinely smile or laugh.

Patrick Eslinger

Have did I miss this? Very fun, this reminds me of the many times my brain has tackled my tongue while trying to read a script.

Aaron

As someone who is, at this moment, putting off recording my own script of a video game review (for a ham-fisted and under-watched free time passion project YouTube channel) because of frustration in "getting my mouth to move right", these outtakes really had an almost cathartic effect. Thanks for the share!

Jonathan Verzilli

The questions of "Is his voice always like that?" and "He probably reads these scripts flawlessly in one sitting lasting the exact length of the video's final running time, right?" hit hard for me.

Dead Meat

I'm sitting on this stool right now... if you know what I mean... 🤣

My neighbor has a Dodge 4x4 that he has modified to run as loud as possible. He guns it and peels out in a 25mph neighborhood with little kids playing in the street. What a twat

Reza Seranitai

Seriously though to heck with Dodge trucks

Was the WTHR reporter who talked outside the school David MacAnally? Would be a nice serendipity with "Mcc Dave"

Ben Lamb

Frame perfect claps Jerry!

Jesse nelson

Nice Vimeo Jerry

Thank you for your hard work and for releasing the errors that dripped down along the way!

Thanks for this. Enjoyed it!

david gibson

Can't wait to play Hideo Kojima's just-announced incredible new opus, to be released in 2023, curiously titled 'Mcc Dave: Mommy's Little Failure'.

Shaun Spark

Find a cop and KILL HIM... :)

Jordan Cummins

Who is Master Chief Collection Dave?

Writing on Games

Thank you Tim :)

Alex Spalding

Oh hey, this is the content that I love and crave!

Emil

The Vimeo is sated.

Alexander Lopatin

The word "vimeo" on the embedded video is unclickable (for us?). Thanks for the offer to download it, that's not what I need, just wanted to access it easily through the television, with a smart-TV vimeo app. But maybe I can "surf" to Patreon through the TV browser, login, and watch it there that way. I'll try

Landa

I want Merch that says, “ I’m sitting on this stool, if you know what I mean,” and “I hate myself, I’m a scumbag.”

James Norton

Another masterpiece by Lord Roggey

James Norton

I would love to see AB reviews in 4K! Unless the last review is actually available in 4K, in which case I wish I watched the last review in 4K!

Allie

There’s something real tasty about the word ‘whetstone’

Squit

Thank you so much for bringing us "Clapton Crunch" and "I feel like I'm looking at Mount Everest and I've got a plastic fork in my hand"

Marc Starvaggi

in the case of MCC DAVE, i definitely didn't write it. so that's one interesting note lmao

tim rogers

i believe you just click on the word "vimeo" in the corner there and that should take you directly to the vimeo page! then you can click the download arrow to download the video. i think!! i am not extremely sure, because sharing content on any internet website is sorta a walmart shopping experience these days, unfortunately. DM me and i can just send you a dropbox link, if the above doesn't actually work!

tim rogers

Wow, I've had to read off a teleprompter a lot for work, and, yeah, you lose your whole entire mind when the words coming out your mouth don't match the words written down. You'll scream, "Why did I even write that?" so many times.

Alex Crumb

Thanks Tim and RYAN TAYLOR. Is there a way to watch this or future backer videos directly on Vimeo? If there would be I could watch it direct from my TV - much better than the computer screen.

Landa

Really enjoyed this, the music is also extremely good.

MoxBagel

I feel like if you use a straight razor you wouldn't need to shave every two hours lol

Athena van Nacht

Fukubukuro

Fred Fryolator

I'm TRYING to draw while watch / listening to this, and thats a bad idea. I cannot even draw a single line cuz I'm just laughing too hard.

Jim Harrington

Is there any way to play Tokimeki Memorial: Forever With You in English, or is this one of those "just learn Japanese (beyond the basics), dude" things?

Tim Rattray

Loving every second of it so far Tim, keep it up. This video makes it look like you're actually having fun doing all this! Happy to see it.

Spencer Ward

I gave up trying to schedule Patreon posts almost immediately. Also using drafts. It's pretty mind-boggling how bad this continues to be considering how long they've been around.

Alec Kubas-Meyer

Thanks for the bonus content! I'm not a fan of the user experience of this Vimeo android app (lack of windowed play and no accelerated playback). I'll watch this on the PC later.

Dan Cantu

Tim, you fly straight past 'merch' and land fully on 'swag'.

Eben Sullivan

how TRUCK HECKulous of you

rootfifthoctave

Will one of the merch items be a t-shirt that says "I USED TO HAVE SIX-PACK ABS"?

goop_lord

Man, I really wonder what the final arc will be like when you unveil your final form. Gonna be wild!

JohnTheRedeemer

Can't wait for the merch!

Nineteenth

patreon is just not built to handle content of the quality to which Action Button Reviews aspires. tragic
