action button reviews boku no natsuyasumi

Immediately after publishing this post, I will set Action Button Season Two Episode One: Action Button Reviews Boku no Natsuyasumi to "public" on YouTube.com/ActionButton.

It took a long time to get this one to you! I'm sorry it took so long. Hopefully if you watch the video you will understand exactly why I had to sit on this video until summer ended. On the one hand, you'd figure one'd suffer bad luck to talk too much about summer during summer. On the other hand--well, if you narrowly watch the video, you'll see.

I'm hard at work on the rest of the videos in season two. Though not as hard at work as I'd been during season one--because now, I have a *team*. I'll introduce you to them soon.

Next week I plan to step back from all-day season two video production to instead see about some menial tasks. I love keeping stuff secret until the last possible second (if you don't believe me, lol, please anticipate the rest of Season Two), though for now I'll spoil a little bit about these menial tasks: I have about a hundred hours of Fukubukuro content, all pertaining to Action Button Reviews Boku no Natsuyasumi. These Fukubukuro videos, consisting of FAR fewer cuts / elements than one of my edited videos, take only a few minutes each to prepare and export, so I'm going to have myself a miniature kind of vacation next week exporting and posting all that stuff. Man, some of it is really good. We reached a little beyond just regular old commentaried raw gameplay footage for this.

I reckon also that some of you might watch this new video and find yourself wanting, for example, a couple of desktop wallpapers. (I say this because, wow, I have made several (6K!) desktop wallpapers from this video for my SELF. Wow. I am for once a sort of a genuine fan of a thing I made. Maybe that's progress.) I'll try to have a nice little package of that sort of stuff downloadable somewhere by the time I pop over here again.

At any rate, I have been awake for a while, so I'm going to try to keep this short. I hope you like this video. A lot of work of various varieties went into it. I won't publicly promise you that the next video will come sooner than this one did--even though it absolutely will!!--because I realize several of you probably don't believe me when I make estimates. At this point, man, I think what we're doing here is worth the time and effort we put into it, and it's only growing in that worth as these new ones take shape.

Actually, let's not cut this short just yet: in my last post I asked you to tell me which videos you understood I was reviewing for season two. Several of you messaged me lists which were very close if not 100% accurate, though it seems that most viewers think that this next video is about Earthbound. I presume all of those viewers are excruciatingly disappointed right about now, though I hope they at least watch the video that does exist (which was also *extremely* explicitly stated as The Next Video at the end of the previous one, lol) and have a good time.

Apparently some people still consider it spoilers to blatantly list the videos in order, and would rather detective-style extract the games' identities themselves from clues within the videos. Though for the sake of absolute clarity I'll say that our next video is LA Noire, and that Earthbound is the *finale* of season two. My goal is to have the Earthbound review out on Christmas Day, 2023.

You'll notice that the Patreon description has not, for over a year, alluded to "monthly" videos, and that I have unpinned my tweet referencing "monthly" videos from my (currently unused!) Twitter. I'd love to have a video out every month, though I also love making these things beefy and vast. If you'd like more FREQUENT beefy and vast videos, well, it's impossible for us to make these videos at ALL without your support, so please keep it up. Seriously, if it wasn't for you all, I would have such a boring job, one where I probably don't even need to know which brands of HDMI cables are the good ones.

ACTUALLY LET'S KEEP GOING

I am working on a couple of Fukubukuro-related features for which I'd enjoy having a couple viewer-submitted questions. By which I mean, I was thinking of doing some director commentaries for Action Button Season One reviews. I haven't watched any of those reviews since their original premiere dates (not because I hate them, or anything: just because you release these things after having essentially watched them 192 times), so time will have freshened my eyes a fair deal. In other words, I'd like to record a director commentary for the FFVII review sometime soon--like my Death Stranding commentary video, in the "pause and talk" style--so if you have any questions specifically about that review, please feel free to send them either to my inbox here or to hello@actionbutton.com with the subject line "FFVIIR Q&A". If your questions pertain to exact moments from the video, feel free to include a timestamp. That sure will make it easier for me to make sure everything gets talked about! I'd livestream this, of course, though I prefer being able to do it in a more leisurely, multiple-sitting fashion. And it seems like a heck of a neat idea for bonus content.

Anyway, I'm mostly just delirium-typing now. Uh. I don't think I had anything else to say. I hope you like the video, and I'll be back soon to tell you to check out the new Fukubukuro content!

ACTUALLY LET ME TELL YOU ONE MORE THING REAL QUICK

I haven't been able to log in to Patreon on my desktop or even laptop computers since my last post. Every attempt I make gives me a "we need to verify your device" prompt. Patreon says they sent an email. The email never comes. I check all my various spam filters and folders. I make sure Patreon is whitelisted on my domain, et cetera. Nothin. I can still log in on my phone--which is where I'm typing this. Though I can't access most features from the mobile version of Patreon (ie, The Money). I'd say I'm Working On It, though aside from sending several increasingly less polite emails and Twitter DMs to Patreon's support team, I don't know what "working on it" means. Google around and you will see that Patreon creators have been complaining since 2018 (or earlier?) about this issue. Oh well. I'm working on it. In the meantime, I have created a channel on the Action Button Discord server (aka The Action Button Goblin Bunker), called "Fukubukuro," intended just for Patreon backers. I will be in there every day--probably even AFTER they let me back in here. Anyway, please enjoy the video. I think you will find it easy to do so!

If you told me I'd watch a 6 HOUR video more than once about a game I will almost certainly never play, and be deeply moved each time, I'd have been face-pinchingly dubious. And yet, here we are, several years later with this fact established.

TiredEyesStillOpen

this video made me quit my job and move country but like, in a good way. much happier now thanks Charles

Mk Kehoe

"My goal is to have the Earthbound review out on Christmas Day, 2023" 🤣

deathstrandicoot

I feel like you probably weren't playing the Arcade version with the rotating joystick the controls were designed for.

Marc Campbell

nope

Zapp Matches

Watching this again and with the quick flash of a title screen, I couldn't help boot up Heavy Barrel on my mister fpga, a game i've never played before. the controls are God awful on the arcade original but the nes version gets it right. Fun game, cool gimmick

TJ B

"Backers also get access to occasional podcasts and Q&A videos in which I answer backer-submitted questions." lmao

Justin

It’s going to be September again for the next action button review video, innit?

My mom was in the service, so in the summer, we'd take the only time off we'd ever take, and go visit family in the remote corners of the Midwest. These odd segues from "normal" life had none of the charm of the rural vacation promised by Boku no Natsuyasumi. So that, for me, is another kind of nostalgia, a longing for a longing I'll never have.

Reza Seranitai

I listened to part of this video on a long drive on the highway. Part when I'm heading to bed. Part when I'm cooking. I will eventually finish it, and then will be sad, because Tim's voice might be the audio equivalent of the peaceful existence exemplified by the 30 days of August 1975 in boku no natsuyasumi. It also reminded me to update my credit card on patreon, so I can pay Tim to bring more of his cherished excellence to the world. You are truly a sunflower, my friend

Barriecuda

This video is a true work of art and humanity.

Ryan E. Geiger

My favorite video to date! Tim, can I get an ID on the gold glasses you wear in the video?

Kyle Brown

Tim I just wanted to say your new video is beautiful. Thank you for making it.

Eri Henry Drury

incredible! now a new patron! i'm watching the other 'episodes' now and enjoying them alot but truly love the way you've presented and edited this one.

Chris H

Loved this! Playing the advertisement after making me cry was a little dirty, though. Of course I'll buy a too-cute sticker pack in that state! I'm excited for the rest of this season and to see how each episode might clarify my lens towards life between methodical breakdowns of video games I never have and would never choose to play! Thank you for these videos and for putting your heart into them. I appreciate your voice and perspective. These videos are some of my favorite contemporary art that operate pretty neatly in my life's own context!

Allie

Tim, I have to step out as a patron because I was permanently kicked from your Discord server due to a misunderstanding. I have been trying to contact you or an administrator of your internet accounts, without reply. Seeing I'm not offered the benefits of my tier or even a reply, I'm stepping out.

Mike Perro

Tim Rogers, you make me proud to be an American.

Garrett

thank you so much for what you do. truly some of the best content on youtube. this video especially in story number 5 really spoke to me deeply :)

David Haynes

Fantastic video. I showed my mom the Kansas segment and she gave it a literal standing ovation.

tittyridiculous

this video on first watch is one of the most moving pieces of media i've experienced, i still cant find the words

crushgals

tim: never offer to work for free also tim: hey i'll do voiceover work for free

Justin

Tim, this video is exceptional. Your exploration of Boku no Natsuyasumi made me want to play it for myself, and then you pulled off exactly what you set out to do: you shared your nostalgia in a way that let me access it and experience it alongside you. It really spoke to me on a personal level and I think gently touched on some emotions I've been trying to process myself lately. This video is beautiful and moving and I'm so happy it exists. Thanks.

Garrison Gondek

Thank you Tim for sharing so much of yourself and your stories with us. I'm very sorry about your uncle and it really touched me that you did make the drive and take a moment to bring flowers to Jerrlea's grave. Sunflowers are my favorite. This video really spoke to me.

Jenna H

Took three days to watch. I knew as soon as I saw the KCI signage with that weird cell signal design I was in trouble. Finally burst into tears at 4 hours and fifty-eight minutes. This video made me want to keep writing, keep making stuff. Thank you, sincerely. Also the Nobel Prize FF8 joke was amazing.

Arcturus

I enjoyed watching the review over the course of a week. Thanks for making it. And thanks for inadvertently introducing me to number girl.

Lawrence E Lawson

Thank you for this, Tim. I also lived in Wichita during that age, now in California. I cherish this game now even though I've never played it and likely never will since I don't know Japanese.

Tod Kurt

"À partir d'un certain âge nos souvenirs sont tellement entre-croisés les uns avec les autres que la chose à laquelle on pense, le livre qu'on lit n'a presque plus d'importance. On a mis de soi-même partout, tout est fécond, tout est dangereux.." Marcel Proust, In Search of Lost Time.

Mohalledaar

This video was a masterpiece and probably your best video to date. You seriously out did yourself with this one and possibly made half of your viewers cry at part 5 in the video.

Blake Childress

I watched the first few minutes of this with my wife, and she said, "I can't believe how much you look like this guy."

Reza Seranitai

Incredible

Jean Paul McDaniel

that was amazing. also yakuza 0👀

matthew Johnson

Just wanted to chime in and say that this a beautiful piece of work. Just what I needed after a really rough period in my life. Will probably rewatch the whole thing soon. Love!

Jonathan Thomassen

mom's favorite flowers were sunflowers— the nostalgia of your youth made me think wistfully of her. thanks for this lovely review, tim. <3

Tim Evans

Another stunning piece of work. Thanks Tim!

Euthymios Logothetis

Great video. I really enjoyed it. I really enjoyed your deep explanation of how your memory works as I have a very similar weird memory, though I don’t remember gas prices or numbers. That said I’m about the same age and all my early childhood memories are as vivid as new memories. You are also correct in saying this feels like a curse. It’s all there all the time, and most of it feels pretty valueless to anybody else. I used to pretend not to remember things and now I just accept that people tell me stories over and over that I remember from the first telling, or that my weird callbacks get forgotten by people that were also there. I just don’t worry about it and keep being me. Anyways, great video.

Matt Richenburg

This is my favorite video yet! Bottom Line: action button reviews boko no natsuyasumi is “a long vacation with deeply touching moments". 7/10 - IGN

Thomas McKenna

If this was the only video you ever made it would have been enough. However I am glad it’s not and i am very excited it’s not because I’m really exited for what you will do in the future.

Daniel Gallant

truly adored this, tim, it's my favorite of your videos and takes me back to fond memories of reading your earthbound review way back when

Nirvan West

Thank you, this was excellent as always. The effort you put into both script and visuals/editing is really impressive. And the more personal parts of the video were touching and genuinely thought-provoking. Looking forward to the next video! Thanks again.

Agnes Lundberg

Fantastic video Tim. I'm willing to forgive the frankly shocking Last Crusade Slander, since being in Kansas is enough to make anyone a little irrational.

Clifford Tunnell

Here's a list of what I imagine is the best setup for a premium racing wheel experience, i made it on May 12th 2020 so it may be a bit outdated, but it's solid, i even asked one fan of racing simulations if this considered as a good set, he said it was great, so here goes::::::::::::;:: Wheel: Thrustmaster TS-XW Racer Sparco P310 |* DriveHub Racing Wheel Converter Shifter: Fanatec SQ v1.5 + ClubSport USB Adapter |* * Pedals: HE (Heusinkveld) Ultimate Pedals for immersion. +++ Pedals: Fanatec CS V3 for Speed +-+ |* * * Handbreak: Fanatec CS Handbreak v 1.5 + ClubSport USB Adapter + USB hub + Chair
