Good evening, Blackbirds!
November is always sepia tones in my mind. I hope you enjoy this warm, tea-stained interpretation of Artemis / Diana and her exploits in the Edwardian Era — much the same as ever, only in especially handsome raiment. This is real butch appreciation hours, folks.
Fun fact: The verse is from the comedy by Aristophanes, “The Frogs”. In searching for poetry about the goddess, I pegged this as the perfect line for the piece, and looked up the play for some cursory context. I highly recommend a readthrough of the narrative on Wikipedia. Within a year of the very real death of the very real playwright Euripides, Aristophanes was staging a roaring comedy of errors about Dionysus’s attempt to retrieve him from the underworld, and absolutely roasting him along the way. I would lose my mind if we did this to celebrities today.
I’ll be posting November’s bonus card poll shortly! You have until October 31st to make adjustments to your membership for the month of November.
Have a happy and delightfully spooky Halloween!
