April Bonus Card!

Good morning, Blackbirds!
In the poll for this month’s bonus card, you all selected “A Leyendecker advertising sketch made somehow even more homosexual”. Your wish is my command!

When I saw this particular Gilette ad a few weeks ago, the copy had me crying. Someone handed this copy to Mr. Leyendecker with the intent that he would convey the notion of a wife or girlfriend gifting their man a Gilette razor set for Christmas. What he illustrated instead was a silver fox with his dashing young lover who have accidentally gotten one another the same Christmas gift. I just can’t see it any other way. 

As a bonus bonus: Did I take this opportunity to portray my vision for the two protagonists of my current very favorite book, A Marvellous Light by Freya Marske? Is this Edwin and Robin’s first Christmas together? Maybe, Blackbirds. Just maybe. I might have done that. Who can say. (If you like this Postcard Society for it’s turn-of-the-century inspiration, elegant vintage aesthetics, and queer romances, then you will also love this book as much as I do.)

I did try very hard not to make Edwin look 45 despite the fact that in my head he’s Ralph Fiennes as M. Gustave. Sorry Freya. The page said 25 but I know what my heart said. 

This Bonus Postcard will be included in all April deliveries for Raven Dandies, alongside April’s Postcard of the Month, “An Unbearably Lovely Transmasculinity”. There are currently 16 Raven Dandy slots open until that tier hits its final cap, at which point slots will only open as members change or discontinue their tiers. This will be permanent going forward into future months!
