As previously announced, the illustration for January’s postcard was part of a collaboration with Old Growth Alchemy, a purveyor of teas, bittters, and gothic folk crafts of all kinds. Together, we came up with the mood we wanted to bring to the season. I contributed my illustration of Aubrey and Jules having an absolutely decadent evening, as cozy as can be by their glowing fire on a dark, wintery night; and OGA crafted their own delightfully decadent pecan praline black tea to cozy up and keep winter’s chill at bay.
Hearthglow will premiere in OGA’s shop on January 18th at 6pm EST! Every member of the Merry Blackbird Postcard Society will recieve a discount code for OGA’s shop in their January delivery — and it will be posted here on the eve of Hearthglow’s debut so that Jolly Jackdaws can participate in the festivities too!
To learn more about the tea, read OGA’s write-up: “This toasty nutty brew is made with crushed praline pecans (so dairy-free and nut allergy folks be warned, this brew is alas not for you) which offer their sweet and silky mouthfeel to a dark wintry blend. Two different black teas offer their amber base with earthy chicory rounding out the roasted flavor. Rosemary offers its woodsy resinous notes that compliment the sweet spice of cinnamon and create the most scrumptious aroma. This brew is best enjoyed by the glow of a flame, so take care to keep one burning for your own light in the darkness.”
