Should we still bother with the Heart Overlay?

It's a mechanism for visually representing how far you are in a given heroine's route...and it also represents love!
Anyway, is this a thing which in any way enhances your gameplay experience, or should we just get rid of it?

When there was only a few girls it didn't make much sense. Now that there are many girls and different paths and stuff, it is super useful to see. The only other way would be to have a "Little Black Book" you could click on to see your affection level with each girl and maybe what their address is when you get it.

2020-12-01 17:22:33 +0000 UTCIs there a way it might serve a purpose other than simply your progression in the story? It made perfect sense for the early storylines where full heart = binding time but now we have long branching stories with lots of twists and it fills up long before the end.
