Do some of these Dark Spirits resemble Sesame Street characters or Angry Symbiote Buttholes?

Should we take Varrick for all he's worth if he's willing to spend the dough? We think so!

And HOLY HOT HELL is KORRA GETTING PLAYED LIKE A FIDDLE BY UNALAQ TO TAKE OVER HIS BROTHER'S KINGDOM!!

The Legend of Korra S2E2 Full & Uncut REACTION!

Comments

There's actually a cartoon of The Maxx. I watched it back in the day but I don't remember much about it now.

When are you guys reacting to Dune?

LOL I love how things were going a bit too well and the episode is just like "and now here comes the coup."

I'm super excited to see how your guys' opinion of the season changes as you go along. This is personally my least favorite season but it really does a lot of character/world building work that links the experiment of season 1 to the stellar third and fourth seasons. Also, I think you will find the "regression" of certain characters like Korra to be a bit less jarring when you see the series timeline as a whole compared to seeing S1 v. S2. I also think it helps to know that S1 finale was essentially prepared as a full series finale, so they did rush her development just a bit in case they didn't get a S2. It makes more sense to think that Korra wouldn't have fully matured in a single season, but they had to make her arc complete at the end of S1 in case they didn't get another season. It's a tough situation for them to be in. Anyway, so excited for more episodes!

Damn, the China and Hong Kong as irl examples are so good. I kept thinking on the line of Russia trying to annex Ukraine, but Ukraine is an independent nation.

Jackie

Oh man not only do they not leave the statue hanging, they make it the best part of this season

Dana

korra in the early seasons just tries to punch her way out of every problem and honestly i love it lol

Korra said lemme headbutt the portal open lmao

In the premiere, it's kind of mentioned -- but really not explained super-clearly -- that the Water Tribes are technically one nation, with the chief of the Northern Water Tribe as the head of state for both. So the North sending troops to the South is more akin to China flexing on Hong Kong than a full-on coup or invasion. It's still an obviously aggressive measure, and meant to come across to the audience as a bad-guy move, but in-universe the uncle is technically the leader, so it's not so cut-and-dry diplomatically/legally. (How this jibes with Republic City having both a Northern Water Tribe representative and a S.W.T. representative on the Council last season, though, I have *never* understood.) EDIT: Sorry, didn't realize that three or four other people had already explained that dynamic in the comments by the time I was done watching and then posting without refreshing this page -- gotta imagine it gets somewhat tiring having the same thing repeatedly posted.

I wish this was made clearer but Unalaq is the Chief of both tribes. The Southern tribe is not considered an independent state. This makes sense considering how much rebuilding the North did (started by Pakku in ATLA) that they would also have taken over the administrative roles in the South. People often confuse that Tonraq is the chief but his leadership role is still superseded by Unalaq. Hopefully this explains the ease with which Unalaq is moving through the South doing things without having to get any authorization (like opening their spirit portal).

Phoenix End

One thing I’ve realized, it might not always be true, but they usually refer to the water tribes as ONE nation. Like how the four temples are the homes of the air nation/air nomads. The relationship between north and south tribes is more like monarch and colony than two distinct nations. Unalaq is the chief of both tribes, that’s why Korra is more surprised than enraged

Soren

definitely! Loved that the kids got some quality writing and development this Season!

One of the things this season did really well was give Jinora her own arc. And from a character you wouldnt expect to get one at that too.
