The Legend of Korra S2E3 Full & Uncut Reaction!

Sup Jerks!

We got a piping fuckin' hot Korra reaction kids!

We're the first of two 2-Parters for this season and this one is equal parts entertaining as hell and frustrating.

Will bike thefts in the Southern Water Tribe go down due to Uni-Lock's involvement?

We looooooove all the interpersonal siblings back and forth with Tenzin, Bumi and Kya!!

And whole Water-Bending Ninjas and Korra trying to not use her bending against them was so damn rad!

And also, c'mon yall, we knew Unalaq was still gonna arrest Tonraq despite his non-involvement with the kidnapping!

The Legend of Korra S2E3 Full & Uncut Reaction!

its the old adage of kids not understanding the adult word and so they make their parents into villains. not knowing about money or jobs when we would go shopping and my mom would get mad and yell at me for picking out expensive clothes (im not looking at prices cause dont know about price tags name brands or money). i took that as she didnt like me. and when my brothers came along and she SPOILED my youngest brother and gave him everything and i still didnt get anything (he had a cell phone, flat screen tv, video games etc etc. i had nothing and still struggled to get 15 dollars for a cd yet this kid has at 6 got 300 dollar tv.......) so i made her into a villain and that created all this tension and resentment between us. NOW as an adult with real world perspective and being on the far far FAR side of all that drama i get it, i still think it was unfair and not the proper way to handle the situation or to raise 3 kids (i have two younger brothers) in the same house and treat each one differently but i truly lived this tenzin, bumi and kya drama. we also need to keep in mind aang didnt have a two parent home and had to basically raise himself from age 12. its not like someone came and adopted him after season 3 of avatar so who were his examples of what a parent should be? he was raised that being the avatar was the most important thing and everyone around him continued that belief so to me i dont find it odd that katara "let" aang go on private trips with tenzin. the neglect was a side effect of aang's job: world protector

Super late to this but I'll add my take. Aang's cultural identity is a massive part of who he is and we know he has a really deep connection with his people, so seeing that his kid has airbending probably reminded him of his childhood. He has someone he can share experiences with that he hasn't had in 100 years, his people's history doesn't have to end with him. In my own little head canon I can imagine him being brought to tears.

I don't remember feeling a way about Aang's parenting when I first watched this. I don't imagine air nomad parents being all that hands on anyway just because I feel like they're more likely to find their own path. I am interested in Katara's side of the story though because I find it odd that Tenzin, Bumi, and Kya have such differing takes on what happened with their dad. I don't imagine Katara would be fine with Aang blowing off two of his kids over the other. I think this is a situation where there's more to the story than this.

Aang would have to focus on Tenzin because technically he is the last air bender and he would have to bear the responsibility of continuing the Air Bending people. Naturally, Aang would relate more to him more.

Unique

I don't recall how I felt about Aang not being the perfect father when I first watched it, but I do recall people complaining about it even years later. Now, I certainly like Aang not being perfect. Being raised as a monk, he didn't really have parents, just a one on one mentor kind of thing, and at 12 lost his entire civilisation. He didn't know how to parent. It's easy to go 'he should have spent more time with the other two', and I do believe that, but at the end of the day. Aang's duty is to the world, not to his attachments. The entire air civilisation hung on Aang's shoulder. I absolutely believe that he loved all three kids equally, but with only one airbender he unintentionally put more effort into Tenzin out of needing to pass on so much knowledge to the next airbender, and until Tenzin had an airbending child, Aang would have known that once he died, tenzin would be the last airbender. That is a lot of weight for someone to carry mentally. I absolutely get Kya and Bumi being jealous, it would be impossible not to and it's not tenzin's fault about the situation. Perhaps Katara should have stepped in and tried to get aang to also pass on airbending culture to the other two, but then she also had the weight of being the last southern water bender and passing her knowledge on to other people. As an adult it makes sense to me that maybe these two amazing people I loved, probably weren't the best at being parents. I certainly feel so sorry for Kya and Bumi though, I can relate to that situation a lot and it sucks but hey, army life can be a tough childhood lmao.

I don't know. Family is at the core of the Water Tribes, but Korra does refer to her uncle as Unalaq and not Uncle Unalaq. Furthermore, why trust him over her father if family is the core of her character? This is not a disagreement, more an addition to add that Korra's hardheaded adolescence blinded her to make a course correction. She saw that Unalaq was doing something she wanted to learn about, calming the spirits, having knowledge of the spirits. She did as he said, and things got bad, but she didn't seem to accept that maybe she was wrong about this man.

Avi Chetri

I really like their choice to make Aang an imperfect dad. It's totally realistic given his place in the world and the state of the Air Nomads that he'd put more focus on Tenzin. Was that a wrong decision? Maybe. But he had such an incredible weight on his shoulders from an extremely young age, and he had no example for typical fatherhood since he was raised by monks (only till he was 12). I also think the dynamic between Tenzin, Kya, and Bumi is super great, and I love watching their characters develop and improve throughout the show.

Aidan Pullen

- Yeah, they did say several times already that Unalaq is already the chief of both the North and South, so an invasion to grab power would make no sense because he's already in control of everything. They have local "chieftains" most likely because the North and South are literally on opposite sides of the planet, making day to day control of both tribes impossible.

GYRECK GAMING

It's always interesting to see how time and again through this series specifically that Korra is kind of defined by her insecurities just as much as her strengths. Time and time again, she defaults to fighting and brute force when calm and thoughtfulness would be the better approach. Yet there are times when she needs fight and go all out where she falls back on her insecurities and her past mistakes and becomes indecisive. It's interesting to see her juxtaposed with Aang because despite being a 12-year-old and the last of his people, and never really had identity issues of who he was personally. Sure, he struggled with being the Avatar and that's what caused him to run away and be frozen in the iceberg. Meanwhile Korra grew up being the avatar: That's such a massive part of who she is that without it she doesn't really feel like she has an identity to fall back on and we see that at the end of the first season where she highly likely contemplates suicide because she lost what she believes makes her her. In a way Korra is humbled, broken & defined by her losses and what she can learn from them if she chooses to.

Jacob Shaw

I think a lot of people weren't happy with Aang's characterization in this. If I remember correctly a lot of people were legit mad about it. I think there's a good portion of people who think Aang can do no wrong so to see that he's fallible really messed with them. Not saying it's right but it would make sense for Aang to kind of favor Tenzin because after Aang dies he's the only one who can pass on the knowledge and culture to others. I don't think Aang loved Kya and Bumi any less but it's clear there were some issues there that were never addressed and now they've dumped them on to Tenzin. I think Aang and Katara are good people but they may not have been the best parents.

Tenuous Pterodactyl

Ikki ran away because jinora and meelo were making fun of her not that she was scared since Jinora was the one who saw the statue light up "Oh eat a butt" lol Morgan XD

Brimmy

One thing that's not really obvious from the show IMO is that the North and South Water Tribes are actually one nation, so Unaloq is already chief of both. But the South is very independent in practice so they don't appreciate a bunch of Northerners showing up to tell them what to do.

Rufus May

I think that a reason why Korra might seem too trusting towards Unalaq is because you gotta remember, that's her uncle. And the Water Tribe is if I'm not mistaken, extremely communal and like all about love in the family. So it makes sense that a 17 year old with a deep connection to family, would listen to her uncle more than anyone, (even herself) especially when she's mad at her dad.

Lorenzo Baxter

It's not really Tenzins job to look after his siblings. Thats a matter of circumstance. He wanted to connect with his dad as any child would want. Its on no one but Aang and Katara as parents that Bumi and Kya mightve felt neglected. Thats the point that aang mightve not been there as much as he should've.

Lorenzo Baxter

Lol, Morgan's observation that they could have helped Bumi with their bending but clearly just wanted him to get hurt.

Avi Chetri

People were kinda upset about aangs characterization in Korra. I think its hard to picture Aang as anything but perfect for people, but I think it makes sense for his character. I don't think he would have done his parenting mistakes intentionally and I don't think it makes him horrible, just more of a real person with flaws. I'm sure if his kids could talk to him about it he may have regrets, who knows, but I liked that. Aang was probably under a lot of pressure and worried about the line of air benders continuing so he probably over did it with tenzin. Side not: I feel like Sokka was probs close with Bumi and a great uncle!

Ci-Ci

also im really glad you guys understood the whole "maybe aang wasn't perfect" angle here. i think it was really bold of the show to go in that direction, showing us that people can be good and do great things, but not be perfect in every way. but yes that did cause a pretty negative reaction back when this show was airing, and even still :/ it really is like the last jedi, people just dont want to see their childhood heroes make mistakes.

Michelle

Just clarifying it was jinora who had the weird spirity interaction in the avatar statue temple. Ikki is the middle child, jinora is the oldest and then milo.

Ci-Ci

The ikki and jinora confusion is funny tbh. There is a theory since the chief of the water tribe is passed down to family that Korra is related to Yue since her father was chief.

Jam

Aang was a good but a realistic father. He had other important duties to tend to other than being a husband and a father. Plus, he didn’t know his parents. It wasn’t like Tenzin was the oldest and neglected Bumi and Kya throughout their lives.

Katelyn

We gotcha fam!
