Hey hey Patrons!

Hope all is well!! Woulda had this out a touch sooner but our ENTIRE INTERNET is fucked at the moment so I'm uploading this from the Burlington right now! lol

We're back with another super fun, Sokka-centric episode of Avatar: The Last Airbender, S3E4 "Sokka's Master"!

We've said hit before, Sokka is the Batman in our Justice League Aang Gang, we love his heart and commitment to the group and it's awesome to see him get some love in this episode.

Also thanks to Uncle Iroh, putting all of our quarantine bodies to shame!

Avatar: The Last Airbender S3E4 Full Uncut REACTION!!

Comments

I've been really enjoying re-watching the series through these commentaries. Thank you! There are times when I think "quiet with the talking!" for about 2 seconds before I remind myself that I'm here FOR your reaction and conversation. I believe it's nothing against whatever you guys are saying, I think it's because the show is so engrossing. Even having seen it, I get caught up in what's happening all over again. I'm excited to get to the end and I'm equally excited to go through Korra with you. Appreciate you guys!

Walter

he was at the meeting because he's still royalty, and a well respected retired general. Why wouldn't he be there

SaviorOfNirn

That was only mentioned in the comics pretty sure.

Geno

Remember when in episode one Sokka was boastful, arrogant and chauvinist? Yeah. Then he met the Kyoshi-warriors, and the journey of his character began. And finally in this episode Sokka is no longer arrogant or boastful. He humbles himself and admits to needing help, and by the end admits and accepts his guild for his deceit. All this character development is done so naturally that we didn't even notice it happening, Top notch writing.

oh for sure. we love all the nutty little character beats S3 takes!

Sean TankTop

Thats actually not true, the original creators had always planned it to be three seasons, beginning, middle and end. Aaron Ehasz started that rumor

Narwhalw7

Fun Fact: the waterfall Sokka was supposed to paint is actually based on a real waterfall in Iceland called Gullfoss. If you look it up it’s practically an exact replica. Only reason I noticed is because I’ve been there, so when I saw it on the episode I was like β€œno way!”

Steven Welti

Never heard this before. I like this theory.

Steven Welti

Avatar was originaly planned to be 4 seasons by the creators. but for some reason Nickelodeon decidet to cut their plans down to 3. the story was written before the 3rd season was produced so they had to rush rewriting. they had to make Sosin's comet come sooner, so having sokka train for 1 week or 2 wouldn't be realistic. Pretty messed up on Nickelodeons part, i think.

Cannot wait to see the next couple of episodes. They are some of the best! Love Sokka so I always enjoy when he gets some of the spotlight.

Mo

I wouldn't call him a hero. He made up but he wasn't a hero in the end in my opinion. I would point to Yue as a hero that died. Her sacrifice puts her in that category or hero in my opinion. But maybe because we see her become the moon goddess we don't think of her as dead because a lot of people don't count her in the Avatar death count.

Libby DVR

Fun Fact Master Piandao also taught Zuko how to use duel swords

Brianna Grout

You said no heros died but Jet did die it was a little unclear but they confirmed he died. I consider him a hero in the end lol

Brianna Grout

During the first season (I think), Zuko mentioned that he was trained by the same Master. We get to see that during his Blue Spirit disguise. It also gives an idea of how good Sokka can become.

Tall Geeky & Cool

Not sure if you noticed in S1 as well, it's implied that Aang was White Lotus in a previous life. As well, his master Monk Gyatso may have been White Lotus also when he saw that Aang favoured the white lotus tile, calling it "an interesting choice". It may also be how the Air Nomads learned about the Fire Nation's impending insurrection, via the White Lotus network!

Bobby Manhas

i think they wanted to last this longer. but could not because they already set the time frame(not so much as multiple episodes but just more days). and if someone did the math it did not work out. but this is one of the best episodes.

Dennis Wolf

Man at Arms actually made Sokka's meteor sword from this episode! Check it out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DITY1WzbLj8

3rd Eye Phreak

hell yeah!

Sean TankTop

were you in the writers room? lol

Sean TankTop

Since you've seen it now at the end of this discussion when you're guessing about the white lotus. I wonder about the episode The Storm. I think Iroh was already in the white lotus. He did his quest after his son died and I don't think he really returned until his head was on right so I think he already understood everything about the fire nation at that point so why was he at the war meeting? I think he was being a double agent...hmmm?

Libby DVR

We have such a ball with that ep!

Sean TankTop

Fun Fact: Piando voice actor is Robert Patrick who was the T-1000 in T-2, and was modeled after the martial arts consultant for the show Sifu Kisu

David Proby

also if this was game of thrones piandao wouldnt just cut sokka's head off, instead sokka would go on a multi-season journey to go and make that sword only for it to break apart immediatly after being used once and never mentioned again. u know it do be like that guys πŸ˜†

Michelle

We love love love hearing trivia and alway appreciate it! Unless its about how the animators all studied martial arts themselves to prepare to animate the fight sequences! xD

Sean TankTop

Don't know if you guys noticed, but when Topher was playing with the space..substance? The third shape was the original Nickelodeon slime logo.

Kayla

Always has been *points gun*

Avi Chetri

I've been looking forward to them watching The Beach since episode 1 xD

Sean Silence

so is iroh officially a GILF now?

Michelle

Next time on A:TLA: Titties and Tears! It's THE BEACH! Lmfao. Good reaction, guys! Sometimes Sokka just deserves some love. He's literally in control of 3 demigods, one of which is destined to save the world from utter destruction, and one of which is his baby sister. He deserves love.

Kelsey Roberts

i know yall finished a while ago, but one tidbit of trivia i can never resist sharing is associated with this episode - the nickeloden execs insisted the creators show Aang in armor so they can sell it as a toy, so they absolutely trolled nickelodeon with Aang's outfit when they take Sokka shopping

Joseph Rapp

Oh shit, I just remembered what episode comes next xD I can't wait!
