Confirming that Al and Winry have memories of things Ed never knew about confirmed Al was really Al. If Al is really Al and people can't come back from the dead, Al's body must be alive somewhere beyond the gate. And Ed has already proven things can be pulled back from there. If Al's body is alive and things can be pulled back from beyond the gate then Al's body can be pulled back from beyond the gate.
