I’m rewatching the series with you guys and I forgot how nice this one is. The first time I watched/binged this series however long ago it was I think I was really anxious to get to the big shonen fights with the strongest characters as fast as possible. So I think I undervalued this one but it’s a great episode. It probably also helps that I know the characters better now.

The Clan leader's scheme is to either get rid of "dead weight" or if they both persevere and become noteworthy he can claim them as proud members of his clan. It's win win either way for him.
