2023-06-03 07:41:30 +0000 UTCThis episode is really special for me cause I still remember during the live play of campaign one of Critical Role, the scene where Pike astral projects in and jus starts demolishing undead was my first live experience of Critical Role. After seeing that I was hooked and have been a fan ever since.

2023-06-02 21:43:30 +0000 UTCMorgan tells no lies - I love this show, but every one of her critiques are fair. I think they find a better balance in S2 of staying true to the core story of their D&D campaign, but also making changes to the plot and dramatic moments for it to work better as a tv show. Understandably, a lot of tropes feel less cliche in the context of a group of friends roleplaying in a D&D game together -- where there's a "OMG she got to do the thing!" to the recognizable 'hero moments' and the "Holy shit he just died!" twist comes from a truly spontaneous role of the dice -- than it necessarily does as a show. (Ironically, the sudden death of Archie is a change from the Campaign, but that's because he wasn't really much of a character at all in the game and I think he even died 'off-screen.') "I am Lord Percival Fredrickstein von Musel Klossowski de Rolo the Third" is a fun little touch for fans of the campaign -- Taliesin, the actor/player playing Percy, could rattle that full name off from memory at any time, much to the amusement of the other players and the stream audiences.

2023-06-02 19:28:12 +0000 UTCnot technically true in that exact instance, Archie in the original campaign was just an important elder of the town that helped them and he didn't even die during the campaign - while they do keep the major arcs and characters pretty close to the original, they did shift some stuff with side characters around here and there (like genderbending Keeper Yennen or Vedmire dying etc.)

2023-06-02 18:06:00 +0000 UTCWhen it came to Archie's death that was the dice rolls. Alot of these scenes are based off the dice rolls and roleplay that happened in the moment. Archie could have lived and been in the campaign further just the luck of the dice decide your fate.
