Now the Mighty Nien has been greenlit (their second campaign) you'll get to hear everyone flex their voice acting talents.
Everyone has totally different characters and new voices to go along with them.

Interesting how you compared the structure of the two seasons - this episode was a re-worked version of a concept they considered for the pilot episodes of s1. The general idea was the party would get stuck in a basement or something and have to confront their inner demons; this idea was discarded because they felt it didn’t make sense to do that with characters they were just introducing. When s2 rolled around, they found a way to do a version of this concept here, as it will set the path for the journey ahead.
If you think it’s jarring to see Travis Willingham (Grog)’s voice in different roles from his anime roles, we critters get a real shock when they start a new campaign with new characters. Without spoiling anything, Travis is not a low-intelligence barbarian.

They've also got a "bag of holding." Grog's got it. It's bigger on the inside. Broom's there.

Will Friedel was also Terry McGinnis! Batman Beyond! Also Ron Stopable. He's got a wide VO career.

You just made so many commenters' days(including mine) by pointing out the mustang/grog/lust/vex connection.
So Kash is played by Will Friedel who was the big brother in Boy Meets World. Zahra is Mary Elizabeth McGlynn who has done a looooooot of VO work and voice direction. She's married to Steve Blum, making them like THE VO power couple.
They did a couple of cool things with moving some story events around. Originally the full party was there for both the events at the Trial Forge(where Grog fought Groon) and The Slayer's Take. But in order to save time they split them up. Groon is sort of a priest for The Storm Lord(Kord in dnd)who is basically the God of punching.
I'm really enjoying hearing the theories you all throw out. I can't confirm or deny any of them cause I'm not going to spoil anything, but it's a lot of fun for nerds like me who have been watching these folks for the better part of a decade hearing other people having the same kind of discussions we used to(and still) have!
