FullMetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Ep 30 Full Reaction!

Hey hey Patrons!

We're back and the paradigms are shifting yet again as this new movement in the story starts to take shape!

WE ARE IN BACKSTORY MODE THIS TIME!

We get some crazy backstory at how interconnected Hawkeye and Mustang have always been and it's wild!

We're seeing young Mustang, Hawkeye and #1 War Criminal Sociopath Mae Hughes in their time during the Ishvalan Conflict!

Seriously, we've never seen anyone so chill amongst so much carnage!

Also, the return of HEAD SHOT KID! How many times will we see this child's brains spill on to the streets of Ishval!?!?

FullMetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Ep 30 Full Reaction!

There's a really big difference between dramatic and personal dark moments between characters vs. a graphic and horrifyingly realistic depiction of utter genocide against an entire people where they're literally boxed in and shot up against a wall, or burned alive. It invokes a lot of visceral and painful memories of tragedies that are either not that old or currently happening. If you're a soldier making jokes after participating in that, there's something wrong with you. Mustang's reaction at least matched his actions. Personally, the only person I respect after Ishval is Armstrong. Every single one of them could have refused to carry that out like he did, but they didn't. Also, they're watching fictional entertainment, whereas in-universe, Hughes is committing like, the worst kind of atrocities you can commit as a human being. He isn't just reacting to something, he is directly causing it. Their situations aren't comparable at all. It's honestly not a joke, it is sociopathic. They probably had to condition themselves to literally not see the Ishvalins as people in order to carry this out. Sociopathy is trained into soldiers all the time. I honestly think that Sean is right though, and it's not a new complex characterization of Hughes and instead just a bit of a writing flaw of one of his traits coming through at a really bad time...he's just always cheery and really loves his family. Even when he just got done indiscriminately killing civilians, I guess.

It's so funny to me that you guys keep taking pot shots at Maes because he is by far the character in this series that is the most like you guys. He's the funny guy of the group who tries to keep things somewhat light and breezy despite how dark things around them are getting. It's not that he's unaware or comfortable with how fucked up their situation is. You can clearly see the fatigue on his face. You guys laughing and taking the absolute piss out of dark/serious moments in the shows/movies you watch is the exact typa thing he's been doing the whole time, so it's pretty hilarious to watch you guys even jokingly interpret that behavior as sociopathic. It's like watching someone laugh at themselves in a mirror. It's pretty great. 😊

I wanna second Rando's suggestion to check out the OVAs, there's just the four of them and they add just that little bit more depth to some of the main cast. They're pretty short, so you could easily do them two at a time or just all in one bunch to get them out of the way. Even if you don't plan on watching any of the other ones, then it would still be worth it just to watch "Yet Another Man's Battlefield" while episode 30 is still relatively fresh in your minds. All of them should be safe to watch at this point spoilerwise <3

Riza's tattoo is her father's research. It contains the formulae for Flame Alchemy. She trusted Roy with it (remember, she asked him if she could trust him). Roy is the only Flame Alchemist, as he is the only one with access to Berthold Hawkeye's notes. Riza is not an alchemist. She's just a damned good sniper and overall bad bitch. Her dog's name is Black Hayate, and he's an absolute trooper.

I wouldn't mind an excuse to watch Rakugo again...

In case you were curious about the Ishval war inspiration :"Hiromu Arakawa stated that the Ishvalans are partially based on the Ainu people, natives of Hokkaido, who were conquered and absorbed by the Japanese in the 19th and 20th centuries" Also if you want more about Roy and Hughes time in the war, look up the OVA " Yet another man's battlefield" for more backstory! (You should look into the OVAs in general)

Idk where the best place is to bring this sort of stuff up, but I would absolutely recommend for you to react to "Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu" as some of the other anime show projects end. It would be a nice change of pace from doing mostly action focused shows to a drama to bring a bit more variety to the kind of shows you watch, the show is also very well received and both seasons together only make up 24 episodes (tho the first one is an hour long) Sorry if this is the wrong place to bring this up! Loving the FMA:B reactions the show is awesome and deals with heavy subjects in a mostly great way, and obviously it's full with allegories to real life WW2 Germany most obviously, or the Ishvalan being inspired by the Ainu which are a native minority group within Hokkaido in Japan which have been mistreated and abused by the japanese majority historically. The reference towards blue eyed invaders doing a full on extermination campaign in a country with darker skinned peoples and deserts seems more likely to be a reference to the Herero wars in German Occupied Namibia from 1904 to 1908 which was the first genocide Germany committed in the 20th century (back then still imperial germany), given how closely inspired the main country in FMA is by historical Germany. Tho obviously death of the author etc. a similarity to american wars and occupation in the middle east is of course very easy to draw, whether the author intended for it or not doesn't really matter since the texts lives on on its own without the authors input and people can make of it what they want and use it in allegory in whichever way they find helpful. I don't really know why people would get upset over this but... anime fans...

Every time Morgan shits on Hughes, I want to see you guys watch Monster. I feel like she will find the most honest character out of the bunch and insist they are a mass murderer. That and the predictions would be wild.
