What ya'll said about psychopaths viewing their family members as their "things" is so true when it comes to Light. In my opinion, he was definitely not actually sad about his father dying, and he made sure to kill two birds with one stone by killing him AND further vindicating himself in the eyes of the rest of the team. I think the episode where Light knocks the glass out of Misa's hand is the episode where the show truly "realizes" what Light is. Before this, it pretty unsuccessfully was trying to convince the audience that maybeeeee Light is a complicated, morally gray character. I feel there's a turning point where the author finally began to understand him for the narcissistic weirdo he's been this entire time.

I'm pretty sure Light was crying because his father couldn't kill Mello rather than because he cares for his dad. Light is just full on evil with the Death Note, I don't think that's something the show has ever really wavered on
Lovely reactions though, always looking forward to them
