Fake husband

Tamara, known as Tam to her friends, had spent months planning the perfect wedding. The venue was adorned with delicate flowers; the invitations had been sent out, and her heart was filled with a mix of excitement and uncertainty. She was about to marry Mr. Davis Trent, a man she thought she loved.

As the clock ticked towards the appointed time, Tam stood in her pristine poofy white gown, nervously adjusting her bouquet. The guests were seated, whispering with anticipation. But as the minutes turned into an agonizing wait, there was no sign of her groom.

As time slipped away, the realization began to dawn on Tam – he wasn't coming. The guests exchanged confused glances, and the atmosphere shifted from celebration to awkward silence. Tam felt the weight of humiliation and disappointment crushing her. She had been left at the altar, abandoned by the man she thought would be her life partner.

With tears streaming down her face, Tam ran from the church, her now not-so-pristine wedding dress stained with tears as she tripped and stumbled her way. Humiliation bore down on her shoulders. Her eyes, now red and puffy, but she didn't care.

Ignoring the sympathetic whispers from the lingering guests, Tam hurried to the waiting wedding car. She fumbled for the keys, hands shaking with a mix of anger and embarrassment. The car, once a symbol of joyous beginnings, now felt like a getaway vehicle from a shattered dream.

In a frenzy, she opened the door and grabbed her overnight bag from the backseat. The scent of fresh flowers made the bitterness of the bile rise in her throat. Tam didn't dare look back at the church, afraid of more judgmental glances or the painful reminder of what could have been.

With her bag clutched tightly in one hand and the other wiping away the constant stream of tears, Tam stumbled to the curb. She hailed a taxi, her emotions a tumultuous mix of relief and heartache. As the yellow cab pulled over, she climbed in, the door shutting out the church and all the onlookers. The driver spared her a sympathetic glance in the rear view mirror but wisely refrained from asking questions. Tamara sat in silence, her mind racing with thoughts and emotions.

The taxi carried her away from the shattered dreams of the church. The mascara-streaked face  reflected a woman shedding not just tears but also all her expectations and dreams.

The feeeeeeeels! You have such a wonderful way of writing, my love. The detail of her car is my favourite bit, I relate to that a lot. Cars play are such understated characters in so many peoples’ lives. Really beautiful to see it play a part here as well.
