Bjorn was the Askeladds conscious. If there were ever moments Askeladd were to question his decisions, Bjorn was always there to tell him why he might be making the wrong decision. He was also intrigued by Askeladd since he made decision a true Viking wouldn't necessarily make. We saw a lot of that thinking from Bjorn during the epsiode in Wales with Askeladd talking to the Welsh leaders.
