I have a decision to make...

Greetings! I fear The Anax has quite the decision to make. Now, I have seen people make Anywhere from 1k to more than 6k a month on games using Daz models, and I spent a huge amount of money on them. Because of me trademarking my IP's, I am leaning towards the idea of only using Daz models for my stories henceforth (and redoing the art on previous stories). Yes, these are free, and yes, I doubt that anyone would bother spending the time and money dragging me to court when, clearly, the content is VERY different than the original.
I do not want to lose patrons when I am closer than ever to reaching my 3k a month goal. So, please use this post to discuss your opinions on the matter. In the end, I may not have a choice at all. However, the models I have bought and built appear very high-end and professional. I believe using the models will also drastically increase my production rate as well because I needn't slog through a thousand photos of people to find the ONE that will work for a scene and the characters will be 100% consistent, instead of changing hair and such. Anyway, I think personally going to Daz will be the best way to go, but as always, I do like feedback and will consider other perspectives before any finalization. Thank you!
I vote Daz, it'd make things quicker and more cohesive and make them feel like more of a game in my opinion. Though I do hope you keep links up to the original files with the photo manips!

Won't that be awesome when tech gets this far? Incidentally, I really want to make VR games as those become something. Imagine The Anax actually chasing you and a group of CGI friends through the woods, or traversing an Invader laden NYC.

I'd say as long as they look rather realistic it's perfectly fine. Squick and mind control does not work for me when it's all fantasy. It should connect with reality, have touches of reality. One day maybe you'll be able to do that in Hollywood CG quality.

Much like Dustin I'm torn on this, at the moment the manips look much better than the Daz models so of course I want to see more of them. However I also appreciate that it takes a long time to find the right picture before the process can even start on editing it which reduces the amount of content that can be put out and of course I want to see more and more.
So I'd say go with the Daz models and for those who are on the fence I'll put the following reasons for it;
1) This is an investment in the future, no offence to the Anax but I'm sure their earliest manips looked nothing as good as their most recent ones and the same will hold true for the Daz models.
2) If the Anax isn’t constrained to depicting scenes based on what they have pictures of then they have free reign to tell the story as they want rather than as they can.
3) The Daz models should allow the Anax to spend less time on editing images and more time on the quality or quantities of stories.
4) A repeat of Davids observation about legality
As it stands I think their work is fantastic and the prospect of either getting more or even better stories is pretty exciting. It’s true the Daz models don’t look as good as real human beings but they have only been using the software for less than half a year, it took me longer than that to learn to walk so….. ;)
Anyway that’s my two cent, keep up the good work!

Well then, I will be embracing those models with open arms. Figuratively of course.

Hmm, I can ask BlankSubroutine if there is a way to do this. However, one can always just discard the picture file. Oh, and starting with The Anax, nd next on the public CoC, I intend to release HTML only versions. So, I just recalled that those are available as well (though in that case there's not the music and sounds.) Lastly, I am already working on rewriting all my stories as e-books instead of interactive Twine games.
This way folks can just download them and read them on their devices!

Honestly perhaps including an option for no imagery would be a good addition. I like the photo manipulations but the Daz Models are kinda off putting to me so maybe have an option for no imagery or limited Models. Don't get me wrong I think your writing is great but I think this would be a good Idea for future projects even for people that are not that into the manips. Hope this helps.:)

Yeah, honestly, your last point was also haunting me with the vote. Cereborgs or Desideratum, either way, will be using a large amount of Daz models. Cereborgs because of the robots, that Cereborg manip I did of Justine for Slugs and Bugs, for example, took hours. Multiply that times all the Cereborgs one will encounter and no way, the story would have taken a year to make. In regards to Desideratum, there will be huge amounts of monsters. Trolls, goblins, werewolves, mummies and more. It would be very hard to find pictures to manip for all these things, so, again, Daz would be my go-to.

It is certainly a positive for Daz models. That distinction is a lot easier to blend. It hurts for me to choose one over the other, just because of how much I enjoyed the photo manips. The corruption aspect just seemed that much more enhanced when seeing it on real models. That being said, your most recent Daz models from the main characters look eerily good. With the amount of ease they seem to have over photo manips, I could see you using a lot more Daz in the future.

I agree with the off-putting 3D models and pics. However, I needed to have demons, and it was almost impossible to find anything else. A few Halloween costumes, but nothing worked. In the end, because I used models, I managed to finish much faster than I anticipated. In fact, I found it to be so fast, yet quality, that it started me down this road.

Honestly, I'm torn on this. Your photo manips were top notch. They are what reeled me in to your stories to start with. But I could understand how limiting set photos can be, when you have full animations at your disposal. If you find that Daz is easier to work with, and yet still is generating high value creations, then I think you have your answer. I am unsure about going back and changing past stories; at least for a while. That's a lot of images to change in fear of a legal pursuer; where your images are quite different than the original. A final note though is whichever path you decide (and I think you have many patrons that would support you regardless), to stick with that path primarily. It was a little offputting seeing model pictures on one screen and then Daz models on the next. They were both well done, but side by side they really clashed.

Before I say anything towards either choice, perhaps some examples placed next to their counterparts? I imagine the end product will be of equal or greater quality so I don’t doubt you, simply curious.

Good to know! Yeah, I think it's been maybe 4 and a half months since the first time I ever opened Daz studio, and, honestly, I feel I have a natural knack for it! I am very excited to bring so many of my ideas into reality!

While I feel your photo manips are second to none, your Daz skills seem to be growing more and more with every project I see. Honestly I'd lean towards whatever makes you feel legally safe, especially given your copyrights.
