PREVIEW - NIHILISATION (OC - NIHILISER)

“Huuuh……how terrible is my luck……” A male voice is heard echoing the pristine white halls of the laboratory. There stood one man in the room against the emptiness of humans from his surroundings, filled with lab tools and samples of chemical matters all across the room. 

Nick is distressed as he organised the tested samples back to its container. He looked at one of its vials, the black substance filling its space and slowly put it inside its place. I just want to move on…For months now, his fellow researchers have been studying this mysterious substance that they've discovered off the coast of Greenland after searching for oil.

At first, this discovery garners an interest between them with its chemical and biological properties unlike anything they’ve seen before. However, The most important discovery that confounded them is the fact that this is not a substance, but an organism.

He scratched his head as he tried to remember the notes. It shares many similarities with a functioning organism, with its material made of cells, functioning energy production, locomotion, and a response to stimuli. 

However…….

Nick collected the paper, which all concluded in defeat. Neither of them understood this property, not even the smartest of them all. New theory is popping up within the biologist’s sphere whether they’re even dealing with an terrestrial organism as opposed to an extraterrestrial one. He didn’t really believe their rumours, but since they’re bringing out NASA and ESA into the equation, then it must be serious.

For him, however? He is done. He has spent so much time investigating this thing, and nothing comes out of it. At this point, all he wanted was a nice sleep and a bag of snacks. He has already sent out a notice of absence for a week, and right now, he’s just collecting his belongings to be sent back home,

Just what are you……..he pondered as he grabbed the last vials on the table, ready to put them into the container. However, as he is distracted by his other line of thought, his fingers slipped on the vial and it fell from his grip. “Ah!” He gasped, quickly trying to grab it from freefall.

CRASH!!!!

The glass vial broke into pieces, spoiling the floor with glass shards and the black substance. In his haste, he kneeled down, trying to grab the pieces. SHIT! SHIT! I’LL BE SO FUCKED! He just wanted to take a break this week, he’s not going to be reprimanded now!

His fingers arduously picked up the pieces, earning some scratches as the speed of his act drowns any little pain. Yet, what he didn’t notice is that the black substance that has latched onto the glass has entered his wounds.

“Fuck, fucccckkk…..not now, not now!” He said, muttering words of frustration as the floor was cleaned up. “Not only that, but this black substance…….eh?”

His concerns about cleaning the floor took a backseat as he noticed the disappearance of the black substance. “Wh-wait? What? Wh-where is it?” He questioned, concerned about this course of events. Did it move? It can’t be, he’s just here!

So where is it? 

Nick, staggered to stand up, breathed in heavily. He felt a certain heat bubbling within him, the fear of a possible contamination bringing his mind to a halt. “No…..what is this heat?” He refuted it, this unnatural sensation felt worse than before. 

He looked at his hands, and gasped at the large wounds tore open the glass shards. “It can’t be…….” He spoke too soon. Before long, his body twitches aggressively, causing Nick to wince in pain. “Agghhhhhh!!!!”
