New Story Ideas! (Poll)

Hello everyone! So recently I've mentioned mixing up the posting schedule to add a new story to the line up. It would most likely take my Thursday slot, and would be an opportunity to test the waters with new content. If a new idea takes off, it might take over the Tuesday and Thursday slot entirely, or I may just keep it on just Thursday. If it does poorly I will likely scrap it and trying something new.

So what does that mean for this weeks Poll? Well, I have been working on some basic ideas, and I wanted peoples opinions on them. So please, comment with your thoughts, additional ideas or suggestions for things in similar veins! I would especially love to hear suggestions for places these ideas would fit.

Again, I want to reiterate, these are early ideas, so expect there to be some finagling.

The Celestial ________

If you don't know what the Celestial Forge or Grimoire are, I suggest you go look them up, as there are a lot of great stories that use them.

If you are familiar, my version would be a little different. The MC would have six "slots" in their soul, three for items and three for concepts. Points would most likely not be used, but they would only roll every 25-50k words, depending on my final decision. Rolling something that somehow refines their being, like becoming a Percy Jackson demigod, would increase their number of item or concept slots, or both, depending on the scale and description of the change. So being given royal blood might give them an item slot, becoming a demigod might give them a concept, but getting a 600 point increase to your "essence" might unlock one of each.

What sort of universe these stories takes place in depends on which gets chosen. the Grimoire would likely take place in a setting were personal power is important, like a super hero world for example, like Invincible or The Boys, or a more magical setting, like Harry Potter. The Forge would take place somewhere that tech is important, and as the MC's scale grows, they can grow into a greater conflict like Halo, Mass Effect, or RWBY.

The Arcane Smith

This concept is a lot more simple. The MC receives perks and abilities in a gamified fashion for doing things like Achievements, quests and challenges. The perks and abilities would be focused on Smithing and how to use the weapons they make, and would vary from unlocking abilities to use more difficult materials, to gathering abilities. There would be no stats or real Gamer System, though some things that they interact with, especially weapons and armor, will have item screens and similar things. Enemies will also drop material loot.

This idea could take place in a variety of places, but would work well in somewhere like Skyrim, RWBY, or if you wanted to get weird, a place like Fallout.

Guildhall

The MC gains access to a stereotypical, if very simple, guild hall, which exists outside of reality, but is connected to one or two settings. By completing quests in that/those world(s) they earn money and points that can be spent upgrading the guild hall, which would, intern give them advantages. Buying a potion room provides basic potions, while buying a training hall allows sped up training, or the ability to push past normal human limitations.

This story could take place in a variety of places, but if it connected two universes, they would have to be comparable in power scale.

Universal Store

MC has access to a shop screen, which is filled with stuff from a specific universe. He can pay cash, or earn store points by completing quests that range from simple and time consuming to difficult, and even silly and embarrassing. He eventually gets access to another universe (potentially losing access to other world)

I don't quite know what universe would make a good setting for this, I suspect what universe he has access to would decide that. I'm open to suggestions

Generals Questbook

MC gains access to a quest book that seems determined to turn him into a large scale faction. The quests would vary for the setting, but rewards might be something like a squad of soldiers, buffs for the soldiers, maybe an elite squad of commandos, or five hundred grunts. The scale would start small but grow over time until he is leading an entire faction.

Any world this takes place on would have to be able to start small but have a much larger conflict in the wings, and not be about personal power.

Please, let me know what you think, what idea appealed to you, and what sort of settings you think would work!

Comments

an inspired inventory fic in halo could be pretty interesting

Elaine

Quest in 40k does sound fun, beyond that the other commenters have solid ideas.

Artman

Generals Questbook in Warhammer 40k or Fantasy would be dope.

Kyle Pemberton

Culture Universal Store IN Warhammer 40K would be interesting

mohammad636

General Questbook in Lord Of The Rings setting would be cool to see! They wouldn't even have to be good guys because people like Ruin or Harad. That implies that they are only human. I think guildhall could also work in this setting but would be lessened because bloodlines like Numenor granting that already. I think Lotr is an under used fanfic setting and I can't find authors without a main story plot of romance except one novel but it was poorly written.

Ryan

A Celestial Grimoire in Invincible would be fun, because the magic side of that verse is explored so little while clearly existing. And because of the limitations you put on it meaning it can’t spiral as hard. Invincible could also work really well with the Universal Store giving access to a place like DC or Marvel, because only the high tier close to end game stuff would really sweep the Invincible Verse. Plus a store system allows for more personal interactions and unique story that might not be just constant fighting. Something like the Power Broker from Marvel setup could be interesting. Marvel or DC would also allow a tinkering and tech diversity that even Robot didn’t do much of. He literally only made Robots, a belt, and some hand tools and took over the world. So someone able to build heroes the tools and powers for the job and even offer training opportunities that we never saw in the original. Plus it could allow you to expand on the hero scene in a support and combat way. We never saw a private legal entity involved with Super Scene. A Witcher Universal Store in Game of Thrones could be really fun. As one is the other but on even more magic drugs. Giving allies better gear, winning over or even training magicians in Witcher setting magic to build power. Game of Thrones could easily be a sphere that merges with the Witcher in another story too. An Arcane Smith could fun to explore in a place like Berserk. Which could also be a great setting for the Guildhall story. Fighting against the grimness of the setting and building power.

Trenton Robinson

Celestial forge in mass effect or warhammer 40k or world of warcraft or the expanse or star wars Guildhall in star wars or game of thrones or world of warcraft Quest in star wars or the expanse Overall i think the expanse is a rarly used but good setting. It has a low space age tech as entry but the celing is all the way up to type 4 civilisations on the kardashev scale

Caiban

General Quest / Arcane Forge for Mass Effect or Halo

J Mv

General guestbook or Universal Store in 40K or fallout. I feel like it would be a good mix since we already have cyberpunk, Star Wars, and worm. Plus you’ve already done the DC universe My main reason for 40K or fallout is that it would add a challenge to the character for resources being scarce in fallout. But for 40K it’s all about keeping your cover while trying to gain strength.

Nameless

General's questbook in PJO/Alex Rider or Universal Store with a door to television shows

Nathan R Chase

Would love to see either a Percy Jackson grimoire world or Warhammer (either fantasy old world or 40k) grimoire or smith world

Jacob Laflamme

Forge in Halo with one of the bigger sci fi technology trees. I'd say Mass Effect just for the variety but everything runs off Mass Relays and eezo. If there was a way to create his own that'd be sick. Atleast till he can convert to Covenant style energy sources and above. Otherwise the standard 3 would still be epic. (Stargate, Star Trek, Star Wars). Battlestar Galactic could be interesting too if he had shackled AI for Cylons. Or unshackled with some kind of guarantee of loyalty atleast.

Fortunis

Id like to see how you'd write a generals quest book set in either Warhammer Fantasy or 40k!

James (Silencian)

Is all an option? Also, I’m more than happy to assist as a dramaturge/lore help on any setting you’re not 100% sure on!

Sammy the Shark

I love Celestial Grim/Forge stories. That said a Guild Hall/Store story would be pretty awesome too. Especially if they linked two comparable realities like say Marvel (comics) and DC. Or Game of Thrones with somthing like Lord of the Rings. Dungeons and Dragons Faerun setting with something like Ebberon would be cool. Honestly there's alot you could do with those. So my personal choice would be the Guildhall and then the Store. Edit: also Guild Hall would make much more sense in a fantasy style setting of some kind since it's fueled by quests. The Store idea can really be set anywhere.

Fortunis

Celestial Grimoire / Forge is done best in a world which has a high power ceiling, that way it takes longer for the MC to become unstoppable, it'd love some Marvel/DC work coming from you based on the consistent approach you have on your other novels!

Feliprins

The Celestial idea is a cool twist to an already cool trope!

Jimmy Jankowski

Celestial Forge in RWBY.

Jaycee 0112

I love the idea of the generals questbook.

MikeysTwin

Forge in a halo universe would be dope

TexanWarrior

General's questbook would be interesting!

Patrick Long

Celestial forge in the boys universe someone has got to start writing more fics with technologically advanced superheroes in a world without them a the boys is a prime example use advanced technology to kick homelander ass

olafur olafsson

Celestial or Smith in a scifi

Pearl of the Orient

Or mass Effect

Miguel Garcia

Generals Questbook may be interesting in 40k.

Miguel Garcia

I really want to like Celesial Forge but every fiction I've read get's out of hand really quickly. Your points to address that seem promising tho. A less human centric forge would be nice. Like he get's 40k but it's all Eldar or StarCraft but Zerg. A Universal Store with the same promise would be interesting too. "What's a 'Harleqins Kiss'?" $$ "Hm, wierd..." *poke* "Oh shit!"

Eich8noe

Definitely like the idea of a Celestial Forge in the MCU or Grimoire in the Harry Potter universe.

Rem Freeman

Arcane Smith in rwby sounds but guildhall has potential especially in something darker like darkest dungeon or witcher

Ján .Juráš

Celestial _ - for sire, id prefer Celestial Forge, (even tho I don't know the Halo or Mass Effect settings beyond these sorts of stories 😅). I think those are more interesting. Maybe in the MCU or something as tech could work well there as well? (Grimoire while nice, I think kinda gets OP too fast as everything is personal power, while the forge has much more buildup time, resource requirements, variables, etc)

David

It wasn’t really a concept you mentioned in the post but I read an Avengers Fanfic recently called Gacha God where the MC is basically a normal human in power level but receives random items from random universes based on a D20 type roll. Unfortunately it hasn’t been updated in a while but it’s a super interesting concept that would work well in any high tier universe with large scale threats or powerful opponents to keep things interesting. Is that something you may consider adding to the repertoire of possible story options? If not I would love to see another story similar to The Brink and Back. Maybe on the universal scale like Halo, Starfield, No Man’s Sky, Mass Effect, etc. something with multiple planets/factions and the MC amassing tech and starfleets from various realities to create a galaxy spanning empire to better humanity

UndeadDovahkiin

I personally would like a story with the Generals Questbook. It could, depending on the details, play in various settings from Warhammer/Warhammer Fantasy to a Historical replica of the Middle Ages/Renaissance and I personally haven't seen any stories of this type yet. It would be quite the interesting journey regardless 😁

Mercury313

Eh..I'll be honest, would much prefer an extra chapter of Star wars battle mage evey week. That's just me though since it's the only story that really interests me. brink and back is pretty good butim waiting for much more build up first.. And worm fics just don't hit for me.

SwiftFate

Celestial or Arcane Forge.

OdinMage

I would honestly like to see a cross of grimoire/guildhall, would be interesting to see it based on a story about yggdrasil or another such place that is connected via magic to multiple universes.

Nicholas

Celestial in mass effect or star wars; forge Smith in Warhammer fantasy or monster hunter.

krane 97

Celestial Grimoire / Forge in Mass Effect

Troy Malloy

Either the arcane smith or the guildhall in the fallout world. A lot of the games have legendary weapons, armor, and enemies the could be used as goalpost for growing either system.

Joyeus

Universal store, very few that are either done or well written

outlaw

Generals Questbook that sounds amazing, and I've never seen someone write anything like It

Hydraswarm

I like the idea of the Guildhall. Its got base building, two different universes, and would allow him to possibly also build a following.

Biz

The celestial

Jens R.

Either the Celestial Forge or the Universal Store. Can it be place in not a modern setting? Like the Naruto world for example. Items invented or sold by the mc will be most beneficial to the people there rather than the modern setting.

Hazel D

The Celestial ______

maximilianshade

nah, I vote guildhall. I feel like it has the best opportunities for strong small character relationships.

pooksley grim

Generals quest book gets my vote

Jamie Celtic

Generals quest book for me.

José F

1. The arcane smith 2. Guildhall 3. Celestial

That Warden

The generals questbook would be interesting in a world with really flushed out history and factions. Something like Runeterra and start in Zaun/Piltover in Arcane would be cool. Have the rewarded soldiers be automatons or shimmer boosts or hextech boosts. Another option would be to go the void route and summon soldiers from the void

momo

Universal Store for me, I've always been partial to store/shop keep/restaurant stories where the store opens up in other worlds so you have a bunch of random worlds to chose from and the items might be really helpful when sold to other worlds.

Eragon Gravelyn

The Grimoire in a setting like the boys or invincible, the forge in Mass Effect, the universal store as a third

Al

1. Celestial Forge/Grimoire 2. Guildhall 3. Arcane Smith 4. Universal Store 5. General Questbook This is the order of what sounds the most interesting to me. Although with that said, I have read the majority of the stories you wrote, and I enjoyed every single one so far. I'll probably end up reading whatever you decide on.

Primordial_Will

Arcane smith and guild hall sound interesting personaly

Brandon Goodman

There are way to many Celestial fics nowadays to keep track of. Celestial Forge/Menagerie/Grimoire/etc... Guildhall sounds like an interesting variation of the Dimensional Chat Group trope and makes it more personal, really hope that goes through. Cheers!

RandomAsian

The Celestial anything those novels are rare as for as I've seen

Travis Tapp

If he does end up in Marvel with one of the Forge/Smiths, highly recommend he runs into Tinkerer in some fashion, either as a rival, a mentor, a deeply annoyed radioshack owner he doesn't notice is a Rogue, etc.

Mr Mouse

Yes, Marvelous mage will be released only one a week

Robert Meta

The Celestial _s and Arcane Smith would be my picks I'd love to see a Celestial Grimoire in DC, or a Forge in Mass Effect, although I could see a Forge working well in a superhero world too; side note, not sure if it's your jam, but a forge in something like Battletech would be interesting. My only problem with the Celestials is the 'Weight of the Quill" mechanic can mess up pacing, especially in preparation arcs, where the plan keeps being changed by new things, or dense climaxs where it breaks in. It's actually one of the things I like about the Arcane option, where you mentioned it'd be achievement or quest based, which is generally my preference if you're not gonna play it straight Jumpchain/Unfolding Jumpchain. With the Arcane Smith, I'd probably either go something medieval fantasy like Skyrim or ASOIAF, or given that you mentioned he'd know how to use them, a lower end, or at least ramping, superhero world would also fit, because there's a lot of personal power in having top shelf gear; Plus, if he's a Smith, that's not just weapons, it's trinkets, it's tools, and it's armour. It'd also be nice to have a few tech pieces thrown in, here and there, either actual tech he's sourcing, or magitech he's having to figure out. Either way, pumped to see more.

Mr Mouse

Generals quest book, seems the most interesting to me. I quite like larger scale stories, but good ones are few and far between. I have faith you could do this premise justice

gigin CZ

Celestial forge all the way. Like world with rwby crossed over with some space fairing sci-fi setting like mass effect or halo.

Shadoian DraconicFox

I love your story's but will it slow down your current story's releases

Travis Tapp

Smith or guildhall sound best to me

Hunter Joseph

Hello 🤗! Of these choices, I would mostly be interested in a story with the Celestial Forge set in Mass Effect or RWBY or even better in a crossover between Mass Effect and RWBY! I would be most intrigued with the crossover, where Remnant could be the world our MC starts on!

Aeden Emrys

Love celestial stories, guild hall sounds fun,I've enjoyed a couple of the shop ones would be fun to see one of these in marvel and/or dc universe

darkleoforever

Generals quest book or guildhall

TaakeTheNoble

Generally Questbook with mass effect or fallout could be a great time

James Hyden-Shepherd

Any one of the last three (guildhall store and army) the rest sound boring and overdone

OmegaNano

I always enjoy the celestial stories, settings like mass effect would be interesting. I would warn about risks where these stories often suffer a disconnect between their character and the world but I think you are a skilled enough writer to avoid that.

C Dos

A lot of these are some good ideas and if I were to choose one then I think it would be the Arcane Smith, though I think the Guild Hall could beat it out depending on the setting you use it in like Danmachi. Though if I could make a suggestion. Having a Universal store sounds neat but why not take it a step further and just make him a shopkeeper with a multi dimensional store. A lot of other fics I’ve read with this idea went to of the rails but you’ve shown you can stick to a subject matter very easily and prevent you’re characters from getting too obscenely strong too fast. He could get access to a handful of worlds at the start and get more by reaching milestones in the store or completing great quest that advance the plot of his current worlds. And the protagonist in question really just wants to be a shopkeeper and will take pride in the store by progressing it. They could have wanted to open there own restaurant or something and sees this as their big break. And I think it would be nifty if rather than trying to go straight for amassing personal power (he’ll still do that) we have a character that attains a massive web of connections of loyal customers and experts who can help the issues of other worlds.

Loghead101

Arcane smith and Guild Hall seem the most interesting to me, though it may depend on the chosen setting.

Proto

I like the sound of all of them, however the first three are my top picks.

David Zimmerle

I think the guildhall and worlds Halo and Mass effect because Humans have in Thies universe the Same Problems with Aliens races and arcane Smith

Felix Fuchs

Guildhall

Robolo42

The Celestial, the Guildhall, or shop one for me. I'm very biased toward the first because I made my bones writing one, though.

Vincent Mason

The Generals story keeps coming back to me now. You could give the MC an ability to summon autonomous drones for building and setup? Or give them a hidden “perk” that would make them an irresistible magnet for loners and dissatisfied people in the setting? That would give you a lot of room to draw in random characters to fill up your team or grow your faction. I can see a story like this working in pretty much any setting with factions but that’s a ton of them (cyberpunk, fallout, wow, worm, star wars etc.) but for this i would hope if it’s chosen, that it ends up something with large scale battles with tons of explosions, guns, tanks, planes, ships and shit xD

AlthePal

Ditto to the above GUILHALL

Israel Perez-Rolo

Maybe even an original new alien species not yet discovered by the covenant

Jake Haxton

Generals quest book

Marick

Arcane Smith or Universal Store seem the most interesting to me.

Katherine

I think the generals questbook would be quite interesting in Halo, maybe as another one of the alien species on their homeworld and being able go unlock other species when they conquer other planet with that species on.

Jake Haxton

I do like the Guildhall concept since Merchant stories tend to develop in that sort of direction anyway. I.E. making it so you can train people from the multiverse and provide item/power support to them. They may as well be the same concept rolled into one. I do have to ask that the MC be a denizen of their starting Universe so that they don't have the advantage of knowing who it is that rolls up into their Guildhall. It would be more interesting if the MC had to actually investigate and interact with the home worlds of his guildies.

Jairo Enrique Quevedo

Arcane Smith for me, although I enjoy Celestial X, the "weight of the quill" mechanic can play havoc with pacing.

Yunru

Celestial: An ok concept but it MASSIVELY depends on your world maybe a switch from your star wars fic? So a fantasy world with scientific items and concepts? The world is easily the biggest decision on this one. Arcane smith: Probably my favorite because I love smithing. The problem with smithing fics is that it’s hard to progress a story with the MC. Maybe like a similar world to solo leveling where smithing would be very valuable to a lot of people? Also can have to MC join mining expeditions for some plot Guild Hall: Another cool idea. A really good way to practice a fic to make a bunch of characters cohesive. Brocktons celestial forge does something like this. As long as it’s JUST the guild hall and it’s upgrades, it can stay understandable unlike brocktons Universal Store: Also a really fun one. There’s a fic like this called “multiversal the shop” fun way to have a whole bunch of different characters interact sort of like the ‘guild hall’. Imagine collecting a whole bunch of “trash items” from one world, then when the MC goes to another, that “trash item” is like GOLD. Even neater if you can go back to the previous world All fun ideas, my order would be: 1. Arcane smith 2. Guild Hall (or 3) 3. Universal store (or 2) 4. Celestial My personal opinions on this

Ravioli Stromboli

The Arcane Smith

Zaris

I'm more partial to the smith option and the guildhall. The smith one because I like crafty stories and it often encourages a more location locked MC with a static cast of characters that can be developed The guildhall because it sounds like one of my favorite Isekai tropes. The reverse Isekai and being able to bring in characters from multiple fandoms is cool.

Cole Deucalion

Its guildhall for me. A permanent portal between worlds is already a very good hook, the guildhall system is a good bonus. Also not being dependant on wordcount helps.

no-thoughts-only-vibes

Love the ideas

Austin

I'm partial to the celestial and the arcane smith more than the others. But the general's questbook could be really cool in mass effect if the mc starts a mercenary group that later becomes a fleet taking on the Reapers. For the first two however....Harry Potter with the smith system could eventually modify a portal and get launched into the future/other dimension of mass effect or skyrim. The celestial...maybe Worm or Cyberpunk starting with skyrim magic?

Chow

I like the idea of a Guildhall, with maybe personalities of other franchises that can be trainers or guides.

Hiram

Of the different options i find the Guildhall to be the most interesting

Stefan Persson

1. I suppose it would be better on working on a general idea of what universe you want to do. I like the celestial personally. 2. I think (and this is just personal opinion) it would be better to finish at least one of your other stories first or you run the risk of burnout or if you get busy cutting into your time with the other stories or sacrificing this one in order to make it. I think you also have to factor in patreon price vs the stories people are here to read. Personally I like brink and back, and battlemage. I'm not the biggest fan of Brockton's (no Hate universe set and power combination don't really interest me.) So if then another story cuts even more into your time then obviously people aren't getting what they want (obviously if you don't care then ignore this). I think it would be better to use the extra slot to finish one of your other stories like brink, or Brockton (I'm not sure what the overarching goal of battlemage is in comparison but the timeline and era of starwars is significantly longer than the others. Ultimately up to you. A halo or mass effect series would be cool for the celestial. An inheritance cycle would be a fun read for the general quest-book and you can probably swing it with universal store as long as the other universe is something like LoTR or a more fantastical take on Harry Potter. I'd love to see a percy jackson story potentially as well. That would probably have to be either the celestial or the arcane Smith though. Definitely tons of options Sorry for the long read.

John

I love the general concepts of them all apart from Universal Store, the Celestial Grimoire or Forge is good as well I enjoy superhero works as much as the next guy and I also enjoy either Halo or Mass Effect personally I can’t stand RWBY. The smith one as well sounds great especially in Skyrim(only found a couple okay Skyrim stories so if anyone has recommendations lemme know please) Guildhall is probably my favourite suggestion and if done right could be amazing, and Generals Questbook as well sounds good as someone suggested you could easily make another One Piece faction apart from Pirates or World Government although I’ll always be a sucker for power progression so I’m not entirely sure though you could do both like with your SW fic. Thanks for reading my long-winded rant.

Jambo

I like crafter stories, was actually a little disappointed with the lack of work with bescar, and depending on the blueprints the mc received the story can definitely also be sci-fi or even world hopping. My vote for smith! 😇

Avidyetboredreader

Guildhall

Robert Williams

Arcane smith in Skyrim, fallout Westeros, Mass effect, or maybe warhammer 40k etc. I think any setting would be interesting to play with. You could also scale with the setting you chose. I really like your character power scaling in Star Wars especially.

Cml1022

maybe something like reborn in a timeline that’s heading towards nuclear inhalation cut he has a portal to fallout world sorta like mansion in the post apocalyptic world

Andre Lucas

I like the idea of the guildhall. I always liked when an MC has access to a bunch of universes through some sort of inter-dimensional hub. Because not only do we get to see the MC interacting with various universes, but we also get to see the universes cast interacting with each other too.

strictpig

I’d be interested in a celestial grimoire style story in a super world or a harry potter one. I like seeing how different powers can be used creatively together and a grimoire story seems like it can lead to that. Edit: Second pick would be generals (that just sounds like it could be new and very fun!) after that the multi-cross stories (guild and shop) i’m curious to see what worlds you pick and how much chaos ensues in the mixing.

AlthePal

I like the smith or the guidhall

Retro Level

Guildhall or the Smith one gets my vote

TheSeaMoon

I'm quite interested in The Arcane Smith.

Hell13

I love the Celestial Forge or Grimoire idea

Tim Meinert

Or better yet, combine a couple. No one has wrote something like a Celestial Guildmaster or such. Imagine it powers people he invites to the guild and not just himself.

Alex I

do the generals questbook in One Piece

emahue64

I like the Guildhall idea.

Reikon67

I think the guildhall could be fun, seems different to other things than I have seen

David Green

The ultimate store would be epic
