Touching what we long for allows us to touch the deeper yes within ourselves.

And you can’t touch your longing without allowing yourself to touch your sadness.

Letting yourself feel the pull of what you want can hurt. The anger in not having it yet. The grief that you missed some opportunity for it in the past. The sadness and even existential despair that it’s not been possible for so many around you, so why would it be possible for you?

Desire is inherently tied to longing is inherently tied to sadness and grief.

Longing is that place within us that can exist between the recognizing we can have, and the having.

Sometimes, it can be hard when it’s not here yet.

But let longing be an indicator that what is meant for you is on its way to you.

What you are pulled toward, you are designed to receive. What calls to you, you are destined to have.

It is one of the miraculous laws shaping the fabric of human existence.

When you feel yourself longing, open to it. Slowly, slowly. Bit by bit. Tippy toes. Whatever feels comfortable for now. No need to get caught there. Just letting yourself be a visitor, if need be. Or letting yourself be immersed in it for an evening, if need be.

And ask. Ever so gently. With all the care you can muster for yourself.

What does what I long for have to say to me?

“The unknown does not intimidate me because I, too, am the unknown to whatever is heading towards me as I head towards it.”
