Humans may be slightly miffed, but the Celestials had no real responsibility to intervene sooner or at all for that matter. If they determined that humanity was on the brink of extinction then the Mantle of Responsibility would compel them, but only then.

I suspect more of the story will be about how the two humanities interact and integrate whilst the looming threat of the flood comes ever closer. No matter what I’m really looking forward to this story and where it goes
