Caldiria chapter 9 rough draft

Chapter 9

Veredel’s dreams were plagued with images of Sean and the nightmare that had been haunting her for the last few days. She awoke, her brow damp with sweat on the living room couch. She checked behind her ear to make sure the device that Trenton had given her was still there. In the mess of her life it was a small measure of reassurance.

She sat up, wondering what she was going to do. She thought about calling her mother at the hospital but then remembered that her mother left her with the cell phone and had yet to call about a room number. She even checked the answering machine. No messages. Veredel tapped her hand on her leg a bit annoyed that there had been no communication yet from her parents.

She stood up and went into the kitchen, ready to make some breakfast. Looking at the clock on the way Veredel saw it was already 11: a. m. Wow I overslept. She thought about it for a moment. Overslept for what? School was cancled with the sheer amount of people missing and it wasn’t like she had a job.

She pulled out the toaster, getting some quick toast ready. There wasn’t much else in the house. No one in her home had gone shopping lately. Maybe I should go and do it myself soon. Especially with my parents tied up at the hosibatl.

As her breakfast cooked she looked over the card Trenton had given her the day before. She thought about calling him up and seeing if he had any info about her brother. She had to know but at the same time she knew that twenty four hours was too quick to figure anything out.

As her toast poped out Veredel thought I can’t wait around for Trenton to help me. I have to find a way to find my brother now.

She tapped her fingers on the table as she waited for her food to cool. Just how was she going to do that though? She didn’t know where to begin in her search for her brother. If the world couldn’t find the thousands of others who had vanished how was she supposed to locate Sean?

Veredel took a bite out of her toast. It was bitter and dry. There has to be a place where I can get some information on where everyone has dispeared to. As she ate the idea came to her. The local police station. They had come to her home before trying to gather information on the dissperences. Maybe she could go and find out if there were any updates to learn.

But what if they are not forth coming? What am I supposed to do then?

As she swollwed another bite she remembed that she was starting to be able to read people’s thoughts. Psyonic, that is what Trenton had called it. If the police are not forth coming I can just figure out what I need by reading their minds I guess. Either that or sneak in to their office later and use these mental reading ability thing to avoid being seen.

She finished her meal. It wasn’t the best plan but still something she could do that was in her control while waiting for this meystious person to call her.

Suddenly the phone rang. Veredel almost fell out of her chair, rocking back and forth twice before catching her balance. She then jumped up and grabed the phone before it went to voice mail.

“Hello?”

“Veredel?” It was her mother.

“Mom? Are you ok. It’s been-“

“I need you to bring me some soda from home I can’t stand this horid stuff at the hosbital.”

Veredel took a deep breath. She wasn’t to happy with being cut off like that. “I don’t even know what room you are in.”

“I will just meet you in the loby in an hour.”

“But dad-“

“He can’t see any visitors right now. I am sorry. Bring this for me will you.” The line went dead.

Good old mother. She never changes.

Veredel went over to the fridge. She didn’t want to do this earnd for her mother. Still if she didn’t there would be a call in an hour asking where are you? Why hanv’t you brought me my soda like I asked yet. Don’t you love me Veredel?

She pulled out the special brand that her mother liked. Popping Fizz light. Veredel couldn’t stand the stuff. The one time she had tried it she had almost threw it up right on her fathers lap.

After I deliver this crap I can drive over to the police station. See what I can find out about Sean.

She put the toaster back and went to the drawer when she kept the car keys. It took her a moment to fish them out. Veredel then went into the other room and grabbed a jacket. Time to get this over with.

She rushed outside, locking the door behind her. The air was chilly today, odd weather for the beginning of summer. A shiver went down her spine as she walked to the car. She was happy to have her own to drive after having Conner take her home the day before, even if hers was a wereck waiting to happen. That boy is a manic driver. How do people like him get their drivers liscince?

Veredel unlocked her vehicle, siding in the drivers side. She set the pop down in the passanger seat and started the engine. The vehicle struggled for a moment before roaring to life. Looking at the gas indicator she noticed that she was almost out. I will have to fill up on the way. Can’t have this car become stranded. It is broken down as it is.

She then pulled out of the driveway, heading off to diliver the goods to her mother. Hopefully this will be all from her for a while. Unless she lets me finnaly see dad.
