Wedding Day Blues Rough draft

Wedding Day Blues Part 1

Amy tried to keep her eyes open as she stepped into her vehicle. “Ugh I need to get home and get some rest.” She yawned and stretched her arms. “I have been running myself ragged trying to get ready for my wedding tomorrow and haven’t had any sleep for almost two days. Ahhh.” She put the keys into the ignition before her head hit the steering wheel.

“I don’t know if I can even get home. I just need a few moments.” She closed her green eyes and drifted off.

***

There was a sudden knock at Amy’s window and she jumped up, her head hitting the headrest. “Oww.” She blinked hard and noticed blue and red flashing lights. “Ugh please tell me I am still asleep.” Amy turned her head and moved her black hair out of her face to see an officer standing at her car door and staring at her. He narrowed his eyes and tapped on her window with his flashlight once more.

She cracked down the window. “Umm can I help you?”

“You can’t sleep here miss. This is a no parking area.”

“I am sorry. I didn’t mean to doze off. I have been extremely stressed and—

“That isn’t an excuse ma’am. License and registration please.”

Amy nodded her pale head. “Sure thing officer.” She reached for her purse. “I know it is around here somewhere. Come on.” She gulped and set her purse down. “I umm forgot my license at home. I just forgot it with all of this wedding craziness.”

“Uhhuhh. Look can you step out of the vehicle?”

“But this is just a misunderstanding.”

The officer raised his voice. “Now!”

Amy undid her seatbelt and opened the door. “Ok.” She held up her arms. “Ok.”

“Put your arms down.” The officer rolled his eyes. “Just get them behind your back.” He pulled out his handcuffs. “We can go down to the station and get this sorted out.”

“How long do I have to be down there? My wedding is tomorrow.”

“Until we get this sorted out.” He fasted the cuffs around her wrists. “Now the quicker we go to the station the quicker you can go to this supposed wedding.” He started walking her towards her car.

“I have a wedding to go to.”

He opened the door of his squad car. “Sure you do. And I get to meet with Senator Kelly tomorrow." He laughed as he shut the door in her face. Amy narrowed her eyes. Great. What am I supposed to do now? I knew I should have gotten something stronger then that stupid gas station coffee to keep me awake. The police car engine started. At least I will be able to get some sleep on the way to the jail I guess. Once again Amy drifted off into sleep.

***

Amy awoke as the officer shook her arm. “Rise and shine precious. We are here.” He pulled her out of the squad car. “Now let’s get you booked and you can sleep all you want.”

He took her inside the station where a bright light greeted her. “Ugh. That is worse than the sun.”

The officer dragged her into the next room and shut the door. “Ok. I just need to pat you down and then you can go in the cell until we get this figured out.” He ran his hands along her body.

“When will that be?”

“The ranking officer will be here in the morning. You can sleep all night and talk to him then and get this sorted out. Should take you a few hours.” He stood back. “Ok let’s get you into the cell with the others.”

“I don’t have that kind of time. I need to meet with my husband to be tomorrow. I can’t leave him at the alter.”

He pushed her towards the next room. “Will you stop with this nonsense?” He walked up to the cell door and opened it. “Now get in there with the rest of them.” The officer shoved Amy inside and slammed the bars behind her. “I don’t want to hear a pep out of any of you tonight. I need my own rest.” He walked away. “I hate dealing with these people.”

Amy stood up and looked around. There were only two other people in the cell, both of them passed out on the floor. “Ugh. I can’t be stuck here. Gerald is waiting for me.” She turned around and put her hands on the bars. “I have to think of something. I can’t wait until morning.”

“Uhgh. They will never find it.”

“Huh?” Amy turned around. She narrowed her eyes at the two men passed out on the floor. One had tan skin and looked to be in his eighties. The other had light dark skin and smelled of booze as he muttered in his sleep. “They can’t find it. They won’t.”

Amy slid down against the bars. “Well this is quaint.”

“Can’t find my shrinking ray. Won’t let them.”

Amy narrowed her eyes. “What?” She stood up and walked over to the man. “What did you say?”

“Ughh. No. Stay away.” He swatted at the air around him.

Amy scratched at her chin. Could he really be talking about a real shrinking ray? “Hey don’t worry. It’s safe. They are gone. You are all alone now.”

“All alone?” He sighed and hugged himself. “Yes. Safe. They can’t find my shrinking ray. I can get out of here when no one is looking. Hid it so I can get home.”

“Where did you hide it again?”

“Ughhh.”

Amy gulped. “Just so you remember of course.”

“Oh yes. Of course. I have it safely in my shoe so I can. . . ahh.” He yawned. “Escape.” He turned over onto his stomach.”

Amy looked down at the man’s grimy shoes. Eww gross. What is all of that gunk? She bent over. I don’t even know why am doing this but to see my beloved tomorrow I will try anything, even digging around though a dunk guy’s shoes for some shrinking device. She closed her eyes and slipped her hand into the man’s loose fitting boot.

“Heehh. Touch me higher Ms. Princent.”

Gross. Amy blinked. What the hell? Her hand grasped something hard and metallic.

“Ohhh my.”

“Ugh.” Amy pulled a strange looking device out of the man’s boot. “What in the world?” She stood up and examined it. “It looks like some kid’s toy remote for a car or something.” She touched the wheel. “I wonder what it goes to.”

Amy gasped as her surroundings suddenly grew around her. She took her hand away from the wheel and dropped the device to the ground. “Holy crap.” She looked over at the bench on the wall. “I can’t believe it. This thing really works. I must have shrunk a good foot or so.” She bent over and picked up the device. “I can use this to get out of here. I will see Gerald after all.” She jumped up. “Yay!”

“Keep it down in there. I don’t want to have to come in there and teach you fools to keep quiet. And stop with the crazy talk.”

Amy gulped. “That was close. At least he is too boneheaded to know what is going on.” She shrugged her arms. “I just wish that my clothing didn’t shrink with me like this.” She grabbed the ends of her shirt sleeves and pulled them up. “It will be awkward when I shrink down even more.” Amy sighed. “But I guess it can’t be helped.” She twisted the device in her hand. “I just wish there was some kind of instructions on this damn thing. Oh hello.”

She held the device over her head. “Twist the dial to the left to decrease the size of the user. The other direction will reverse the process. Warning. Prolonged use of the device will result in change in one’s molecular structure. If you alter your size do not exceed more than five minutes without returning to your original state.” She lowered her arms and laughed. “What could possibly happen? My body is slightly shorter than normal? I have been meaning to try and fit into some new clothes anyways.”

Amy grabbed ahold of the dial. “Well here we go. Time to get out of here.”

She quickly turned the dial to the left and her body shrunk in response; the room around her growing in mere moments. She vanished inside her clothing, tripping over a pant leg and falling down the other. “Ouff.” The sudden movement caused her to twist the dial even further to the left. Soon all she could see was a sea of fabric as she bounced downward. As she fell her clothes began to fall as well, no longer able to stand upright without her body able to support them. Amy was trapped in an avalanche of her own doing and a few seconds later hit the floor, her jeans and shirt crashing down on top of her. “Oww.”

Amy pushed her pants up so she could see. “That was rather abrupt.” She ran her hands over her body. “I should have taken off my clothing first. Why couldn’t this thing come with a better instruction manual?” She scratched her head. “Speaking of which where is the damn device?” She dug around her immediate surroundings. “I need to be find it. I will be damned if I am trapped at this size. What is this size anyways? Christ.”

Amy’s foot hit something small and hard. She bent over and moved a flap of fabric to see the shrinking device. “Well my poor toe found it.” She picked the device back up. “No way am I loosing you now.” She sighed and looked around. “Now to try and get out of here.”

With a carful grip on the controller she began to worm her way towards freedom. The weight from her pants was enormous; she had to fight for every centimeter she gained. “I can’t tell if I am making any progress. Everything looks so similar in here. I wish I could find a landmark of some kind.”

Everything began to shake. “What in the living hell? I go away for a few minutes and when I come back I find that lady is gone.” Amy put her hands to her ears as an earth shatter sound pieced through her pants. “All is left are her clothing.”

“You sure you locked up some chick?”

“Quiet.” Amy heard the sound of something striking flesh.

“Ooww.”

“I need to throw this shit outside.” She grabbed onto the side of the pant leg as everything began to move. “I will hunt down the escapee after.” Amy bounced around the interior of her clothing, trying to find something to grab onto. As she tumbled she saw an opening in the distance. “Oh no, it is the end of the pant leg. I can see the floor, miles away.” She used her free hand to try and grab onto the fabric. “I need to hold on. Everything is so slippery.”

“Huh? Is there a mouse in here?”

A large hand suddenly fell just centimeters away from her head. Amy went limp and slid even closer towards the opening before her. I can’t let him crush me but I can’t fall to my doom either. I just have to wait until the last second and I will grab the edge of my pants.

Out she flew; at the last moment Amy twisted around and grabbed the side of her clothing. She slammed hard into the mountainside of the police officer who brushed her away like a fly. “Noo!” Once again she went flying, her arms flailing in the air as she tried to figure out just what was happening. “I can’t see what is going to happen. Everything is spinning to fast. Ugh.” She held her hand over her mouth. “I remember why I don’t like going to amusement parks.” She did her best not to hurl as she spun in the air.

Suddenly she landed on something soft. Amy took in long deep breaths as she looked around, the massive light of the station beating down on her like a sun. “Phew.” She slowly sat up. “I can’t believe that worked out. I wonder what I landed on.” She ran her hands along long waves of orange and black grass. “So soft.”

“Mrrrowww.”

Amy gulped and turned around to see a massive head with two silted eyes staring straight at her. She waved her hand. “Nice kitty.” She gently patted her hand on the side of what she assumed was the back of the giant cat. “Sorry to have landed on you. Heheh.”

The cat showed Amy its shiny teeth and growled. She jumped to her feet with the shrinking device in her hand. “Ok I will be off.” She turned around and slid down the cats back and down the tail. Once on the icy floor she ran for the cover of a pile of boxes. She climbed on top of the first box and slid between the next two, just out of reach of the hungry cat who clawed at her from above.

“Phew.” Amy slid down in the small crevice. “That was close.” She held the device in her hands. “What am I supposed to do now though? If I used this to grow to get away from the cat that damned officer will find me. If I shrink down more I might never find my way out of here. And I can’t just wait. I have a wedding to be at tomorrow.”

“Shoo. Who let you inside?”

“Mrrrrow.”

“I said get. I have bigger issues. I have an escaped prisoner. Look if I take these boxes outside will you be happy?”

Outside? Amy climbed up and found an opening in one of the boxes. I think I found my ticket out of this place. Thank you angry kitty cat.

Just as she slid inside the cardboard container an unseen force picked up the box. “Look Snuggles if you want this piece of cardboard crap so bad you can play with it outside. Daddy can’t be bothered right now by you.”

Amy grabbed onto a loose piece of cardboard as the ground shook with each mighty step the officer took. If I ever get to the wedding I am going to make Gerald promise me never to go to an amusement park. Ever!

“Ok out you go.” Mrrroww. “And here is your plaything.”

Amy’s world turned upside down as the officer threw her container. After a few moments she landed hard on the ground, the top ends of the box almost crushing her. “Oww.” She shook her head as she heard a low growl in the distance. “Ok. I need to just get the device before that Snuggles cat finds me.” She looked around the remains of the now soggy box. “Wait where is it?” Amy peered her head outside and saw a reflective light just a few inches away.

“Phew.” She jumped out, grabbed the device and kissed it. “I am so happy to see you.” She looked up into the giant eyes of the cat. “And happy to see you too.” Amy took a few steps back. “Now let’s now be hasty or anything.”

The cat flattened Amy with its right paw. “Ok. Now you are taking this too far.” She ran her finger along the dail shrinking down even more. “Ugh wrong way.” Amy looked up at the cat who was licking it’s lips. “I am not going to be your snack.” She spun the dial in the other direction quickly growing. In seconds the cat was resting on Amy’s chest, it’s eyes wide in surprise.

Amy set the controller down and picked up the kitty. “Hey now. Sorry about all that.”

“Rroowow.” The cat jumped out of her hands and ran towards the station.

Amy scratched at her head. “Sorry to have spooked you but you were about to eat me.” She stood up. “Now I need to find something to cover myself, otherwise I will end up back where I started from. At least I am out of that horrid jail.” She looked across the street. “Perfect. A thrift store, closed for the night. I can just shrink down, get inside, grow back to normal and unlock the door. It’s perfect.”

She laughed as she crossed the street. “This thing is so useful. I wonder why anyone would say there are side effects.” She scratched at her side unaware of the small blue rash forming on her leg.
