Alicila yawned as the morning light seeped into her eyes. “Ugh.” She groaned and rolled over onto her chest, her massive hand crushing a nearby log. The sudden crack caused her blue eyes to snap open, and she jumped to her feet. “Who is there?” She looked down at the small campfire she had curled up around, the one that just the night before she had been laughing with her mother and eating smoked dire boar. Alicila sighed and sat crossed-legged in the damp earth as she used her massive fingers to poke at twig-like logs.
“What am I going to do? I am over twice my normal height, and people tried to lock me up for it.” She looked back in the direction of Cresthaven. “I wonder what even happened to her. Is she ok?” Alicia sighed. “Maybe I can go back and look for her. I mean, at this size, who can stop me.” She looked at her hands and shook her head. “No, I am only fooling myself. I can’t fight people who have swords, axes, and crossbows. Even if I am a good thirty feet tall.”
She stood up. “What am I going to do then.” Alicila suddenly heard a scream. She turned around to see an elderly man and his wife. The old lady pointed straight at Alicila.
“A Sizeran. Ivrak get out your bow and shoot her.”
The old man reached into the cart between them and pulled out a massive longbow. “Don’t worry. I will get her before she crushes us, honey.”
Alicila shook her hands. “I won’t hurt you.”
“Hurry Ivrak. She is coming this way. You want us to be torn limb from limb.”
“What are you talking about? I would never do that.” An arrow whizzed past her ear. “Hey.”
Ivrak spat. “I won’t miss next time.”
“How did you even miss that time? It is like that time you were practicing to shoot the barn.
You can’t hit anything worth a damn.”
“Quiet.” Alicia took a few steps back. “I am trying to concentrate. Which one of us worked with the Lulvix Alliance?” Alicila twisted around.
Ivrak’s wife slapped him. “Don’t you bring that up. You were a failure of a soldier.” She pointed at Alicila. “I mean, look, you are letting her just get away.”
Alicila shook her head as she squeezed between the trees. “They were pleasant.” She rolled her eyes. “Where am I going to go if everyone is just going to shoot at me?” She looked behind her. “At least out running them is easy. These long legs are good for something. Ouff.”
She fell flat on her face as she tripped over a boulder. “Oww.” She pushed herself off the ground and pulled a deer out from under her body. "Well, that is unfortunate.” She sighed. “But I guess it is one way to earn my lunch for the day. Ewww.” She picked the crushed deer up and carried it off into the forest. “I just need to cook it now. First, though, I need to get far enough away from that angry couple so I can make a fire and eat.
She kept walking until she came upon a giant blue ball just sitting in the center of a glade. “Huh?” Alicila threw her smashed deer onto the grass. “What in the world is that?” She walked up and touched the massive round sphere which came up to her waist. “Weird.” Her finger pressed down and caused a deep purple coloration to appear. “Wonder where this thing came from.” She shrugged. “Well, I can figure it out later.”
Alicila turned her head and noticed the remains of a small campfire next to the giant blue sphere. “Perfect. There are even logs here. I won’t have to bother trying to cut down a tree.” She bent over. “Or I guess I could have tried to rip one out.” Alicila shook her head. “I don’t know. I am just glad I didn’t have to worry about it. Oh yes, there is even flint here. If only I could pick it up.” She used her fingers to grasp the small piece of metal. “Got it. Yes.”
She suddenly heard a mumbling sound as she struck the flint against the nearby rocks. As soon as the fire started, she looked around. “Hello? Is someone there?” When no one responded, she went back to her small growing fire. “Strange.”
“Help me.”
Alicila stood up, her foot almost kicking dirt onto the fire. “Who is there?” She looked around. “Come on out. I promise I won’t hurt you.” She ran her hands along her torn clothes. “Just because I am having a bit of a size issue doesn’t mean I am some monster.” She took a deep breath. “I promise.” Again no one answered.
“I think I am going crazy.” She sat back down and put her right elbow on the strange blue ball next to her.
“Owww!”
Alicila jumped up and struck a nearby tree. “Ughh.” She shook her head as limbs fell from above and hit her shoulders. “I just heard that giant blue sphere talk.”
“Help me!” Alicila could barely hear the muffled voice. “The people around here are crazy.”
Alicila slowly walked forward. “Can you speak up? I can barely hear you.”
“Roll me. . .”
“What?”
“Roll me over.”
Alicila crossed her arms. “Umm, ok.” She rolled the giant sphere forward until she could see a small head. “What the hells? A giant talking ball?”
“I am a she, not a ball. Thank you very much.” The strange-looking person shook her head and looked up at Alicila. “Please tell me I am having some blueberry-filled dream. How are you bigger than me?”
Alicila shook her head. “Forget about me. What happened to you?
“I was heading to Terrodale in the name of the Lulvix Alliance. We are trying to bring them back into the Alliance, and I was sent to give them one last chance. But weird things have been happening around here to hamper our attempts to even give them the notice.”
“Like this?” Alicila touched the woman’s round blue body.
“I swear I just stopped to rest for a moment, and when I woke up, I smelled blueberries everywhere, and then my skin started to turn blue.” She shook their head. “And then blueberry juice filled my body.”
Alicila laughed and sat down. “That is absurd.” She shook her head. “What is your name?”
“Vexen. Everything beyond that is classified.” She narrowed her eyes. “You are a Sizeran, aren’t you?”
“Umm.” Alicila crossed her arms.
“Don’t worry.” Vexen bounced up and down. “I have bigger fish to fry than some rouge Sizeran right now. Whoever or whatever did this to me is going to pay once I get all of this juice out of my system.”
“Wait, what?”
“What wasn’t clear? When I get out of this sticky situation, I am going to go down to Terrondale and find who was responsible for this and make them wish they weren’t born.” Alicila narrowed her eyes. “They think they can just do this to a Lulvix Alliance official and get away with it? We are building a better tomorrow for everyone, one free of freaks.” Alicila stood up. “One free of crap like this.” She took a few steps back. “When I find the culprit who did this. Hey, what are you doing?”
She ran at Vexen, and using all of her might, she kicked her like a blueberry-filled ball and sent her flying over the treetops. “Hey!”
Alicila snorted. “I hope you pop when you land your horrid witch.” She turned around and picked up her deer. “What a horrible person. If that is what the Lulvix Alliance really is, I hope I never meet it.” She sighed and held the meat over the fire. “Whenever mother talked about them, I never thought that they would be so vile. She said I should be careful of them, but I never understood why.”
Once she could feel the meat heat up, she raised the deer to her face. “Well, I guess this will have to do.” She took a tentative bite. “Ughhh. Not the best food I have ever had, but I don’t think I am going to get much better until I find a way to shrink back down.” She looked at her body. “If I ever do.”
Alicila took another bite. “I wonder if I should check out this Terrondale myself. Maybe, someone there could help me. I mean, we have a common interest, right.” She bit into the deer again and winced. “Ughh.” She spat out a massive bone. “I hate being this size.” Alicila sighed.
After she finished her meal, she looked to the west. “Well, I guess I should go and find this Terrondale. Hopefully, they won’t be as crazy as everyone else has been since my recent change in size.” She stood up, dusted herself off, and set out to look for the mysterious haven.
