A Blueberry World Part 6
Christen rolled out of bed as the alarmed blared. “Ugh another cheerful morning.” She sat up and rubbed her weary eyes. “All I know is I don’t have to work today and I am happy for that.”
“Oww.” She hit the back of her right hand, squashing a mosquito. “How did you get into my house?” Christen sighed. “Oh right. My soon to be ex-boyfriend thought it was a good idea to tear down one of the walls of my house.” She scratched at her ragged hair as she stood up. “Try and help me because I am a massive blueberry my blue ass.”
Christen walked to the mirror over her oak dresser. She was still as blue as ever, in fact her skin looked a shade lighter then she had the day before. “I almost feel like I need to see a specialist about this. But who even would specialize in something like this.” She ran her finger along her cheek to check and see if there was any left of juice from yesterday. “I don’t just want to find someone who doesn’t know what they are doing. I saw what good willed but foolish endeavors can do.”
She turned her head as her cellphone rang. “Who is calling this early in the morning?” She walked over to the side of her bed and picked up her phone off the dresser. “Hello?”
“Christen? This is Derek from Calvin University.”
Christen’s cheeks turned a bright violet color. “Derek. How are you?”
“I am fine I guess. I am just calling to let you know that classes start this week.”
“Ok.” Christen gulped. “This is a bit late notice.”
“Then you are going to hate to hear that your game design course starts at the end of today.”
Christen dropped the phone. “You have got to be kidding me. I can’t go to class looking like this.” She looked back down at her phone. “Crap.” She bent over and picked the phone back up. “Thank you for calling Derek. I won’t keep you. I am sure you are busy today.”
He hung up. Christen ran her hands through her hair. “What am I going to do now? I am going to be laughed out of collage for this. I can’t imagine what would happen if I turned into a blueberry on campus.” She turned around and walked towards her dresser. “Ok. I have until the end of today to try and find someone to fix this. I can do this.” She looked at her blue face in the mirror. “I am doomed.”
Christen switched out of her night shirt and into blue t-shirt and jeans. “Great, my clothing matches my skin. I need to do laundry but I don’t have the time.” She crossed her arms. “And now I have to go across town to clean my clothes thanks to Greg. I swear if I see him. . .” She clenched her fist.
Christen ran downstairs and shivered. “Ugh it is freezing down here.” She walked into the kitchen to see a layer of frost on the counter. “That is it.” She walked over to the phone on the wall as she slipped around on the icy floor. She picked up the phone.
“Hello? This is Christen Yelnets. I want you to send someone to work on my house. I have an entire wall taken out.”
The woman that answered spoke in a monotone voice. “Miss. Please calm down and tell me what cause this issue.”
Christen narrowed her eyes. “I am calm. Look you wouldn’t believe me if I told you.”
“Miss, I just got off the phone with someone who said their pool was filled in by gremlins. I doubt your story is weirder then that.”
Christen shook her head. “I swelled to twice my size like a human blueberry and someone I have been seeing, Greg Tennen, tied a rope around me and dragged me through the wall.”
“Oh I know that.”
“Wait what?”
“Yes miss. Greg works for us. He was telling us all about it this morning.” Christen heard the woman on the line sip some liquid. “Such an interesting tale.”
Christen sighed. “Not really. Look can you just send someone down here.” She paused as her eyes widened in excitement. “No wait. Send Greg down here to do the work. I am sure he will be happy to do this job.”
“I can’t just. . .”
“You don’t want me to spread around town that your organization is going around wrecking homes just so they can rebuild them and make a profit. Now do you?”
“Excuse me?” There was a pause on the other end of the line. “Fine. But you will have a twenty percent extra service charge.”
“Fine.” The line went dead. “And a good day to you too.”
Christen walked out of her kitchen and into the living room to examine the extent of the damage. She walked into the center off the room and stepped onto her smushed couch. “I hope that Greg replaces all of this. My living room would have been fine if he would have left well enough alone.”
“Well I never.” Christen looked up to see Margret as she stepped inside the broken remains of Christen’s living room. “I thought things were bad when you started to paint yourself blue but this is absurd. I am going to have to call the housing commission for this.” Margret tossed what was left of her cigarette bud onto the floor.
“Margert I can’t deal with you right now.” Christen put her hand to her face. “I am getting a headache.”
Christen could feel a surge of juice start to build up inside her skin. This is not what I need right now.
Margret walked over. “I am doing this for the good of the neighborhood. We want you out.”
“We?” Christen crossed her arms. “So you are speaking for everyone now?”
“Of course I am. I say what they are too afraid to.”
Christen narrowed her eyes. “I am sick and tired of your shit Margret.”
She turned around, pulling up her oversized black t-shirt. “Well tell it to your new housemate.”
Christen trembled. Margret had done some horrible things to get under Christen’s skin before but this took the cake. She could feel the blueberry juice slowly start to build up inside of her and a terrible thought crept into her mind.
“Margret. You know what. Let me help you contact the neighborhood board commission. So I can help you get me out of here faster.” She took a few steps closer to Margret. “I want to help everyone out.”
Margret laughed. “I knew you would see things correctly eventually.”
Christen slowly nodded her head. “Yes. Yes.” Once she was within a few feet of Margret she reached out and grabbed Margret’s arm.
Margret turned around and cried out, “Hey what are you doing?”
“Giving you a taste of your own medicine.”
A few moments passed and nothing happened. Margret looked in Christen’s eyes, “This is getting weird. Let go of my arm.”
Christen felt the pressure that had been building inside her body fade away. “Ok. Whatever you say.”
Margret brushed herself off. “For a moment I thought you were serious. But you are as weird as ever.” She looked down at her hands. “What is going on? Why is there a blue spot on my palm?” She looked up at Christen. “What did you do?”
Christen smiled and crossed her arms. “Let’s just say this was a long time coming.”
Margret’s skin slowly turned blue. “Hey what did you do to me? Stop this at once.” She began to jump up and down. “I am breaking out in hives here.”
Christen laughed. “You are freaking out already? Your skin turning blue is the least of your worries.”
“What are you talking about? I had perfect complexion before this.” Margret narrowed her eyes as her hair slowly turned a dark violet color. “I want you to undo this now.”
Christen shook her hands. “Nope.”
Margret turned around. “I am going to call the police then. I am not going to stand for this. I. . .” She looked down at her chest. “I feel funny.” She put her hand on her belly as it began to expand outward. “Ugh great I am bloated as well. Just what I need.”
Christen walked over. “Ya. Let’s call it bloating.” She pushed Margret out of her house. “I think you should stand out here, on my lawn.”
“I think I should just go home.” She shook her head. “I just feel so bubbly.”
“Look all I want is you out of my house.”
“What?” Margret looked down at her stomach. “Hey this swelling isn’t stopping.” Her backside began to push itself outward. “I can feel liquid all over my body.” She ran her hands over the sides of her frame as it expanded. “Please tell me what is going on Christen.”
“I told you. You are getting what you deserve.” Christen crossed her arms. “You are going to turn into a human blueberry.”
Margret turned around and widened her stance. “Wait what?” She tried to push in her massive belly. “No. I saw that stuff on the news. I can’t turn into a human blueberry.”
Christen blinked. “Wait, you knew about this but you thought I pained myself blue?” She shook her head. “Never mind. That isn’t important.”
Margret shook her head. “Screw this. I need to get help.” She tried to lift her leg but failed. “Ugh I am so heavy. I can’t even see my legs anymore.” Margret’s legs were now swelling and her body was huge and round. Her cheeks puffed outward as she began to grow larger. Christen took a few steps backward and watched her handiwork unfold.
Margret tried to push her growing mass downward but her arms were shrinking into her body. Her belly and rear end now rested on the ground as she continued to swell. “Christen, when I figure a way out of this you are going to pay.”
Christen put a hand on Margret’s body. “Ya sure.” She looked up to see Margret begin to round out. Her arms and head were just starting to sink into her body. Christen pushed against her swollen mass, slowly rolling the massive blueberry.
“Hey, what are you doing?”
“Sending you for a ride.” With a groan Christen pushed Margret and caused her massive body to roll down the street. She bounced down over the sidewalk and quickly out of sight. Christen took a moment to dust off her clothing, a smile on her face.
“That felt good. Maybe she will think twice before trying to kick me out of my own house next time.”
