Amy sighed as she sat at her desk. “Why did I get saddled with the graveyard shift.”
She looked up at the clock. “Five a.m. can’t come soon enough.” She blinked her weary blue eyes. “I don’t even know why they insisted on adding increased security anyways. What is so damn important that I need to keep an eye on this facility. Ugh, this company has become paranoid as of late. I hate working for Fredricks Fancy.” She put her head on the desk. “If I make it through this week, I am going to try and find a new job.”
Suddenly there was a knock at the front door. “Huh?” Amy grabbed her flashlight and stood up. “Please tell me that was my imagination.” She flipped on her torch and walked over to the door. “Last thing I need is someone trying to break in. I just know my boss would replace me like I replaced Jerry.”
She walked over to the door to see a young lady banging on the glass. Amy narrowed her eyes. “Hey. We are well past our closing time. Get. Go home, you drunk.” Amy pointed her flashlight into the ladies’ eyes. “Shoo!”
The lady shook her head, her long blonde hair rubbing against the door. “Please let me inside. Before they find me.”
“What?”
She slammed on the door. “Please!”
Amy sighed and pulled out her keys. “Fine, but you speak of this to no one.” She unlocked the door. “I don’t want my boss to fire me.”
“Oh, thank you.” The young lady rushed inside. “I am so very grateful.”
Amy nodded her head. “It’s ok. I can’t turn away someone in need.” She shut the door behind her. “So, what is going on anyways? Who are you?” Amy crossed her arms, scratching at her grey uniform.
The woman shivered in her red dress. “My name is Daniel. I was having fun at a club a few blocks away, you see.” She took a deep breath. “Then the weirdest thing happened. Two ladies in these exotic playboy bunny outfits came into the club.” Amy laughed, causing Daniel to sneer. “It isn’t funny. These women started going around and embracing the other ladies in the club or something. Soon they all started changing, becoming playboy bunnies as well.
I got out of there before they did the same thing to me. Ughh. I think they were hopping after me as I came here.”
Amy laughed. “You are kidding, right?”
“Huh?”
Amy leaned against the wall. “You can’t really expect me to believe that some playboy bunnies are turning people into bunnies. It just doesn’t make sense. How high are you?” She held up her hand. “Never mind. Don’t answer that. Ugh, god damnit. I can’t believe I risked my job to let in a lunatic.” She turned around and ran her hands through her dark hair. “My boss better not figure out about this.”
“I am not lying.”
Amy turned around. “Look. Before I get into any more trouble, I want you out of here. Do you understand? Fredricks Fancy doesn’t allow crazy people on the premises in the middle of the night.”
“But—”
“No buts. Now get moving.” Amy rushed around and pushed on Daniel’s back. “Next time, don’t try and pull on someone’s sympathies like that with such an outlandish story. Other people may not be as forgiving.”
“But I am not. . .” Her eyes widened as she saw figures emerge from the darkness. “Oh no. They are here.” Daniel pointed through the glass doorway. “Look.”
“What are you talking about?” Amy pointed her flashlight at the door to see two women in tight blue latex with bunny ears hopping towards the building. “What in the world?”
Daniel shivered. “See. I told you they were real.”
Amy sighed and rolled her eyes. “Well, calm down. I locked the doors. They can’t get in.” The door suddenly opened, and the two bunny girls hopped inside as Amy looked down at her pocket. “Oh god, I forget to lock the door.”
Daniel shook her head. “No, no, no. I am out of here.”
One of the exotic ladies laughed. “But don’t you want to have a fun night?”
The one woman giggled. “Ya. Stop running and just enjoy yourself.”
Daniel took a few steps back. “I told you before. I. . . think the way you look is terrific, but I am not sure I want to be bunnfied. I have an interview in the morning. Ladies.”
The two playboy bunnies surrounded Daniel. “Oh, but we just want to help you with your interview.”
The other one smiled. “Yes. A little hoppy energy in your life can only be like a benefit.”
Daniel shook her head. “No. I just.” She turned around. “Amy, we have to. . .” One of the bunnies grabbed her and kissed her on the cheek. “Hey.” She pulled away and rushed over to Amy. “We have to go further into the facility.” She watched as the bunnies winked at them. “Before they try and change us.”
Amy crossed her arms. “I still don’t get this whole deal.”
Daniel grabbed her arm. “Let’s go already.” She dragged Amy through a door and into a dark hallway. “I think we can lose them.”
“Daniel.”
“A bit further, and I think we will have gotten away.” She dragged Amy through another doorway. “We will lose them this time.”
Amy pulled her hand away. “Daniel! Stop this.” She rubbed her arm, feeling the tenderness from Daniel’s grip. “I admit those ladies back in the lobby were weird, but this isn’t an excuse to drag me deep into this building. I am supposed to be the security guard.” She put her hand on Daniel’s shoulder. “I could get you thrown in jail for this.”
“Oh, come now. Why would you do such a thing when it is just so silly.” Daniel giggled. “We should have fun. The night is young, and we look so good. Why worry about things like locking people up unless that is what you are into.”
Amy raised an eyebrow. “What did you just say.”
Daniel covered her mouth. “I have no idea where that came from.” She giggled. “Please excuse my outburst.”
“Umm, ok. Look, you can’t stay here.” Amy rubbed her forehead. “But I guess you can help me figure out how to get those damn bunnies out of the building.”
“Ok sexy.” Daniel gulped. “I am so sorry. I don’t know where this is coming from.”
Amy arched an eyebrow. “Umm, right. Let’s just find those bunnies and vacate them already.”
“Like ya. Operation get rid of sexy bunnies.”
“Umm ya.” Amy walked out of the room. “Are you sure you are all right?”
“Positively awesome.”
“Right. . .” She shined her flashlight down the hallway. “Look can we focus on the task at hand? We can figure out your half-baked mind later.” Amy shook her head. “If I have to explain this to my boss, I am just going to resign.” They slowly walked down the hallway, their footsteps echoing throughout the building. “It is eerily quiet.” Amy winced as she heard a hopping noise. “Wait, I think I hear them coming.” She turned around to see Daniel bouncing around. “What are you doing?”
