Lucy’s Growing Adventure.

The waves slowly crashed against the shore. “What a wonderful day.” Lucy smiled as she looked out over the lake, her brown hair blowing in the wind. “I am glad we came out here.”

Riley sat back on the hood of her car. “Well, it has been ages. I do miss coming out here.” She stretched her arms. “Ahhhh. It is getting late, though.”

“But I want to go for a quick walk along the beach.” Lucy laughed. “It will only take a few minutes.”

Riley smiled. “Ok. But I do have work in the morning.” She jumped off the SUV and landed on the sand. “So, let’s go.”

Lucy smiled. “Alright.” They headed down towards the beach, watching the hazel waves crash against the shore. “When was the last time we came out here?”

Riley shrugged. “I don’t know. Almost two or three years ago?”

“Well, we should make more of an effort to come here. I mean, look at this view.” Lucy pointed at the setting sun. “You don’t get this every day in the city.”

Riley giggled. “Ok, I do admit the view is very impressive.” She raised an eyebrow. “Eww, will you look at that?” She pointed at a small bottle floating in the water. “Some people just think trashing the place is a good idea.” Her eyes went wide. “Hey, what are you doing?”

Lucy wadded out into the water and grabbed the bottle. “It could have a note to buried treasure.” She sighed as she lifted the bottle only to realize it contained strange green liquid. “Ohh, I guess not.”

“Lucy, not every bottle that washes up on the beach is going to lead to a sunken ship or talk about two star-crossed lovers.” Riley smiled and put her hand on Lucy’s shoulder as her friend returned to shore. “But hey, maybe next time, right?”

“Hey, this is something interesting, though. Look at this.” Lucy pointed at the faded writing on the side of the glass bottle. “Growth Dreams. A new concoction to help bring out. . . Pleasure and fun. . . So, what are you waiting. . .” Lucy laughed. “I wonder what this could be.

Some new-fangled sports drink?”

Riley shrugged her shoulders. “Who knows. Maybe someone dropped their prototype in the river, and it ended up out here. Some people are careless.” She slid her hands into her pockets. “Now, can you set that thing onto the beach or something? I have to get home for work tomorrow. I am sure the beach patrol will take care of it.”

Lucy tapped her fingers on the side glass bottle. “Hmmm. I haven’t gotten to do something crazy all day.” She blinked her brown eyes. “And I am running out of time.”

“Lucy?”

Lucy popped open the cap and held the bottle to her lips. “Here is to making the night magical.” She drank what was left of the strange liquid.

“Lucy!”

“Ohh, don’t worry. I’m fine.” Lucy tossed the bottle to the side. “I feel a tad tingly, but otherwise, I’m alright.”

Riley sighed. “I didn’t expect you to just drink it. Huh. Well, at least nothing happened.” She turned around. “Now come on. Let’s head back to my place so you can get your car.”

Lucy nodded her head. “Of course.” They ran back towards the SUV. “When we meet next week, we are so watching a movie.”

“Ohh, are we now? We are meeting again so soon, are we?”

“I mean, why not? I don’t want to have to wait almost a month for another girls’ night.” Lucy laughed.

“Of course. We can work something out when we get back to my place. Just don’t do something crazy again, ok?” Riley narrowed her eyes.

“Like making you call shotgun?” Lucy flung the divers door open.

“What?”

Lucy slid into the driver’s seat, her hands running along the steering wheel. “Well, I mean, you swam all day long. Think of it as my gift to you. I’ll let you relax a bit on our way back. I don’t mind.” She held her hand out. “Now give me those keys.”

Riley laughed as she opened the passenger door. “Fine.” She slipped into the SUV and handed the keys over to Lucy. “Just treat my baby nicely while I get some rest.”

Her eyes slowly drifted close. “I’m trusting you.”

“Of course. Lucy started the engine. “I will treat this baby with the utmost of care.” She slowly drove out of the parking lot. You can count on me.” As she pulled out onto the road, Lucy felt a strange warmth spread throughout her body.  “That is strange. I feel hot. Maybe I should put the air on.” Lucy cranked the air to the max. “Ahh, that feels a bit better.” She pulled at the collar of her shirt. “But it is still getting very hot in here. What is going on?”

As her grip tightened around the wheel, she felt a strange pressure build inside her body. “It’s just some indigestion, Lucy. Having that beach pretzel was a bad idea.” She took a deep breath. “But I don’t know any pretzel that makes my boobs feel so tingly.” She shivered. “And full. Riley looked over. “Not what again?” She gulped. “Are you growing?”

Lucy nodded her head. “Yes. Ughh.”

And I’m the jam. Why did I drink that bottle? Oh god, it is so overwhelming!”

Riley backed away. “I don’t know. Let me think.”
