So, first of all. Jetlag kicked my ass, but I'm back at the keyboard now. I've gotten the edits back from Saviours and going to be working through them over the next week or so. I'll be working on the next chapters leading up to the Gala and Sal's next few crafting projects. Let me know what you think about this direction. I wanted to have him spend some quality time with his parents. :)

2024-08-04 00:43:33 +0000 UTCYes that is correct in book 3 he says his father would make him pay royalties and now he says he has a royalty contract for skills and there is no version of him in the story that would simply sign without having his father double check that contract so ether his father knows about it (which is said before the royalty talk in same chapter book 3) or Sal is doing a 180 and wants to prevent Argento from being involved in his guild.

2024-07-31 15:28:35 +0000 UTCYeah, I've found that retcons, continuity errors, and borderline plot holes are a constant issue with these webserials and webnovels, especially the ones with a more open ended style of outlining like Quest Academy seems to be. Since we're almost like beta readers and are reading the chapters as they come out of the oven, it's quite normal for some things like that to go unnoticed by the author without a thorough editing stage where they read the work in full to see if everything is consistent. If you think about it, it's kinda like we're paying to be beta readers or something between them and normal readers, and us pointing out things like that might help the author improve his story if and when he goes on to edit it (I'm not sure what Brian's process looks like here). In the meantime the only thing we can do is point out those issues if we want to/feel like we need to, and if they're fixed, great, if not, well, you could either roll with the punches or drop the series. (just in case I wrote in an unintended tone, this is not meant to be agressive or passive-agressive towards anyone, I was just pointing that the issue you mentioned is a pattern I've seen with most webnovels and, in my eyes, a justifiable one)

In the first book there was already a big part about him getting in contact with his parents about his skills where he informed them about every thing and now we have them acting as if this is the first time they hear about it. specially the talk about him working on skills where his father mentions if he gets paid he was involved in negotiating the pay for it in book 3. then there is the whole mater that they have been refusing to talk about the guild and apparently anything related to quest academy seeing how he has been home for days and the only thing they do know is what was told to them from quest himself. how dos it make sense that they straight up "forbid" him from telling them about anything that happened?

I personally can't wait to see sal get grilled by his mom when she hears about divinity and Hannah(especially this because he isn't sure what to do so he could always ask his parents about it). but back to shade, I wouldn't be surprised if in the future we learn he is in the pockets of bastion and feeding them gear...why else would he be such an A hole other than for money and some fanatical goal? But great chapters, crafting is great and love hearing what he makes, but the interesting parts are what comes out of the process and how its, used, people react to it, and how some of his creations may impact the story. like with divinity's crown, barry's armor, ability threads, and Hannah's gloves, but I do enjoy those chapters still so yeah...great chapters lol

The second is the reactions to his crafting... Crafting and more crafting is fine, but its not the most interesting part of being home.

That he could still be anonymous implies no one can look up that info. Makes for a fun bit though.

It feels more like he's comicly badly informed because of Sakura getting bought off and is acting under the faulty premise of "Sal has been spooked into compliance by the end of semester terror campaign" thinking the normal angles work

The previous leader was at least competent but died/ got ousted and Shade gained control because of nepotism or backroom dealings or whatever. It would also fit with the apparent surge that the Reavers are having, particularly with the differing philosophies on the sameish tasks

Behavior like this normally gets you quite blacklisted by everyone in a community. Everyone we have met has had bad opinion of the man and his guild. And he doesn't have the personal power for his guild to matter this much.

Given what we've seen of the Delvers I'm starting to wonder how they've gotten the rank and acclaim they've got in this environment. Granted that may just be Sal's disproportionate exposure to competent people but I'm surprised people like Vanessa and Sakura didn't have better than THIS.

I hope this isn't out of place but wanted to nitpick/ ask for clarity on a few things. If this post is too much or out of line please just say and I'll avoid such in the future. Chapter 3- Can you add a little more to the description of Sal's new work shop. Between the skylight and the tools layed out in the work area I understand that the space itself is a single room with a staircase to a mezzanine area and a "wide open" train carriage. Is it like a subway station with tracks leading in and out and the train carriage resting in the middle? Is the space big enough for 2 sets of tracks and trains or just 1? Are the walls plaster, metal or maybe ceramic tile since it's underground. How high is the ceiling? Is it a 2 story space? Going up the metal stairwell does the mezzanine allow a view over the train carriage or is it a separate level in between first floor and basement. It might be cool for it to have a lift to move stuff up from floors 1, mezzanine, and G and have mezzanine as storage since that's what it was originally. After finishing the chapters I realize moving materials is a noticeable nuisance. That elevator lift would be a big benefit. Also perhaps a platform lift to move things from floor level to the train carriage level since that seems to be elevated.

It’s nice to see some home life and change of pace. Instead of an entire series outline, have you thought about just having an outline book by book? Like, take a week or two upon completion of a book to just outline the next book. Then after break, you start the nitty gritty process of writing again? Anyways, great chapters and excellent writing.
