Quest Academy: Loyalists (Chapters 89, 90, 91, 92)
Added 2025-12-18 09:31:52 +0000 UTCHey Everyone,
So, you'll notice that it's not Monday. I didn't want to leave you hanging waiting for the final chapters when my deadline is tomorrow. Some have asked what I meant by deadline, so I thought I'd explain. My publisher gives me dates to get the final manuscript into them, and that's when it goes to my Developmental Editor and then my Line Editor.
Both of those people have schedules, and booking them in advance is really important. If I miss my deadline, the release of the book has to wait for their next available slot, which could push the release by 4-6 months.
Nobody wants that, so it's important that I get my manuscript in on time. :)
I'll have plenty of opportunities over the next few months to edit and tweak the story, by adding things like Erika's bandolier being used, some better descriptions of key scenes, and resolving some of the lose continuity threads along the way.
I'll be making a separate post next week asking for your continuity feedback, or of plot threads you feel need to be resolved in this book or in the subsequent books. Some of them slip away from me, and a reminder is always good. Personally, I felt like Seth's turn in Athena wasn't a priority, but based on the amount of comments, I need to put in a sentence explaining that.
Anyways, this is the conclusion to Quest Academy: Loyalists, and there are still a few hooks and unresolved items that will be addressed in the next book. It's been one hell of a journey, and I hope you enjoy it.
Quest Academy: Ventures will likely start posting on either the 19th or 26th of January. I'm going to spend time with family over Christmas and New Years, then take a break for a couple of weeks before starting into Book 7.
My plan is to also send out questionnaire type messages to get details on each character for the vanity tiers on Patreon. That should be in the next week or so.

2026-02-21 02:36:24 +0000 UTCWhy is it called Loyalists? That small part happened only in the last few chapters. Shouldn’t it be called Pantheon because of all the paradigm shifting crafting he did?

2026-02-02 07:50:46 +0000 UTCIs there anywhere we can get the whole book in one attachment instead of having to go back through all the posts?

2026-02-01 07:46:06 +0000 UTCPretty sure those nifty pads (and everything else) will run out of essence and stop working in the low to no essence Dregs by the sea shore (and in the low to no essence demon free ocean). They probably have to ship in food, clothing, and potable water made by essence because they have no essence of their own.

2026-01-28 01:00:17 +0000 UTCCouldn’t he set it up for the Darwin Cruise folks to get access to the Legion system? Since they like to compete and all, instead of getting things for free, and it’s quite literally a system that gives you a skill path to compete for rewards? Just make paths for people who don’t have abilities right? Of course, creating and managing that would probably mean Sal would have to Craft some other insane things! 👀

2026-01-12 01:41:35 +0000 UTCFinally caught up! what a great series! I just blitzed through everything in like 7 days, pulling all-nighters like a devious crafter! I loved this ending, although I'd have loved a tiny bit longer debrief amongst the mythic guild. This was a big first for them. Can't wait for the next one - I don't know what I'd love more between floating modular cities or a death net evolution on land. perhaps both combined ;-) keep up the good work good sir. I am here for it all!

2026-01-09 13:37:30 +0000 UTCHey Brian, I was wondering if as a paid Patreon sub thing, if we could maybe get a Google doc or two on some of the worldbuilding and characters? It would be really awesome to know more about the characters, like their backstories etc. I’d love to know more specifically about Vanessa and Upgrade, and their time at Quest Academy, and what QA used to be like for them back then. All good if not!

2026-01-08 10:08:04 +0000 UTCOk Brian, you need to stop whatever sorcery/elixir you have managed to put in these chapters. I miss the weekly chapters and realize I am oddly addicted to them darn it! I forgot about your break and was truly sad when I logged in and saw no post from you! Now I have to start trying to find a witchdoctor to figure how to break this spell before I go mad from not getting my weekly fix from you! 🤔 Hope you are enjoying your break… it is well deserved sir!

2026-01-07 01:16:12 +0000 UTCquestion, why was sal needing his hat to stop erika readif his mind when he has the hair pin/clip that he made in book 4 and was able to stop the spider commander in book 5.

2026-01-06 15:40:10 +0000 UTCLegion, combined with "fixing" the Darwin folks up with weaves using an extension of Artemis based on Sal's experience combined with the data from the experiments would be enough to get a self-supporting community going, especially combined with some fun growth building features.

2026-01-03 19:50:04 +0000 UTCJust finished the last chapter and I really loved how the finale for this one was a good bit of action. I generally like Sal as a character but I’m getting a bit tired with him. He knows and has expressed that he keeps forgetting what he needs to get done, and he keeps adding more to his plate. He really needs to face some sort of actual consequence for this to realise that he needs to be smarter with his time and learn to delegate. He has a whole group of people as a guildmaster but they’ve only just started to be utilised with delegating tasks. I’m also a bit disappointed that we’re still yet to see anything happen with Fabi. she seems to only be around when it comes to crafting. i also find it very odd that she never joined the guild. what is her purpose in the story? from the view of someone who grew up writing my own little stories, i still find is odd that there was a whole bit about fabi marrying sal in the future, yet we’ve seen nothing happening in regards to that. what was the point of it? i also wish there was a little bit more action or even just consequences and things going wrong to have a bit of tension and keep readers on the edge of their seat. for like 60% of the book, it was mostly crafting and classes but nothing to really have any tension or anything like that. it was mostly smooth sailing. the fact that the only real bit of action we got for this one was right at the end of the book confuses me, because it was probably the best part of the book. i stayed up till 5am just to finish it. that’s not to say that the rest of the book wasn't good, or that i don't enjoy the crafting and academy side of things. crafting is specifically one of my favourite things in this genre, so it's not that. it’s simply that there's just not enough tension and consequences for actions truly though, i enjoyed the book and can't wait to read the entire series again when the book is fully released

2026-01-03 18:15:14 +0000 UTCWhelp, that's another one of these books I read in one go. On the whole, the story felt well paced and I enjoyed what happened, especially having Sal coming to realise the challenges of guildmastering. It doesn't feel like he has really found his feet there but that makes sense. He has learned to lean on his advisors while learning but hasn't taken the step to start being the one in the driver's seat. That feels like enough progress and gives a good pathway for where he'll develop in future books. Seeing Sal struggle and grow as a person outside of his powers (while still crafting awesome stuff) is one of the great things about this series. The climax and conclusion are the only parts where I have anything meaningful to say that might be useful. From skimming the comments, it seemed like continuity and typos are already taken care of. After the pod reveal, it doesn't feel like it is properly explained why everyone is so concerned. Why would everyone care so much? What makes this person more dangerous than the wealthy and powerful families that are known to be Bastion sympathizers that Quest and the others have seemed content to leave alone before? Maybe Sal would ask Quest and Neuro after speaking with Enigma why it they are such a big deal. He is as ignorant as the reader about this so it would make sense. Also, it isn't mentioned at all if the Bastion person was captured, escaped the raid or if he was somewhere else the whole time. There doesn't seem to be a big climax for Sal on the ship. He seems to just run through the ship knocking out guards without any challenge and it just doesn't have the impact of the climaxes of the previous books. You mentioned you were working on something that would work for the cover, so you are probably be addressing this already, but it is important enough that it needed to be mentioned anyway. The last thing is that there is no mention of the hostages or captives that Erika found on the ship in Destiny's visions when they actually go on the ship. Finding them or at least discovering what was being done to them would go a long way to reinforcing the threat of the Bastion operative and why everyone was so concerned about them. I hope that any of that might be useful. This was was a really fun read and I'm looking forward to reading the final version!

2025-12-22 16:29:58 +0000 UTCLove your stories! Ch.86- if the crusader is halfway on its side, 45 degrees maybe, every thing inside would also be 45 degrees. Was it massively retrofitted?

2025-12-22 16:25:32 +0000 UTCOK, completely off topic here and mainly addressed to Brian, what is with the sushi addiction? Anytime food is ordered into the workshop it is sushi. How about chinese food or pizza? I am rereading book 5 at the moment and Coach wants sushi. Upgrade loves sushi.

2025-12-20 21:05:55 +0000 UTCDon't quote me on this, but they traveled through three separate cities on their way if I remember correctly and only one red zone area. I'm not speaking against reclaiming it, just that between city barriers, reclaimed areas, and red zones, creating a new independent reclamation zone to build cities in would probably be equivalent to declaring war on the Hunter Bureau and Co. They act as a government and most likely consider it to be land they own.

2025-12-20 19:54:12 +0000 UTCWhy would Sal have to buy the warehouses to house the Darwin cruises refugees? Why doesn't he clears a red zone using the sovereign drone? For example the red zone that was on the way between silver sanctuary and Quest academy that Sal had gone through the first time he went there in the first book. Clearing that red zone instead of buying the warehouses has several advantages. 1- It's between two already populated areas so security and protection should be easier. 2- It's already has a train track running through it, just needs a station, so reaching it should be easy. 3- There should be no cost for buying land as it's a red zone so money can be diverted towards buildings and businesses. 4- The amount of resources that the sovereign drone accumulates by clearing the red zone can be used to make the area self sustaining.

2025-12-19 02:12:24 +0000 UTCHi Brian, I do not think Paradox/Enigma has left a good impression on me as a tier 1 guild for this mission, granted everything went bad for their actions on the ship, and perhaps their strongest people were handling other parts of the mission... but I am only seeing only the mess inside the ship. I was thinking it might be useful to build up the tier 1 performance somewhere outside of the ship to show the normal competence of the guild. Just my thoughts...
