Growth Ray.

              Missy walked up to her mailbox.  “It better be here.”  She snorted.  “I have been waiting months for them to send this to me.  If it still hasn’t arrived, I am going to send someone a very mean email.”  Throwing open the mailbox, she gasped as she saw the package.  “It came.  It really came!”  Her gloved hands wrapped around the box.  “I can’t wait to use this.  I just. . . oh boy.  Oh boy.  Oh boy!”

              Wrapping it in her armpit like a greedy goblin, she rushed for her apartment, not bothering to say hi to anyone as she made her way inside.  “It’s finally here.”  Missy locked the door behind her and giggled.  “I can’t believe it.  When I read online that someone was selling a growth ray. . .”  She rubbed her hands together.  “I just knew I had to get it no matter how much it cost me.”  She let out an evil laugh.  “Besides, I can make it back one way or another.”  She tore open the box and pulled out what looked like a toy gun.  “I have a growth ray, after all.  Who is going to stop me?”

              Missy sighed and tapped the gun against her chin.  “Though, what am I going to do?  I don’t even know how this works.  Sure, I know it makes things grow, but that is very vague.  Like does it make the entire thing grow?  Just what do I point at?  The seller wasn’t exactly specific; they were just trying to get rid of it.  I can’t imagine why.”  She laughed again.  “I mean, it’s a fucking growth ray.  Who wouldn’t like it?”

              She sat down and sighed.  “But still, how am I supposed to test this thing?  There are like no instructions!”  She groaned.  “Seriously, who sends something without instructions.  Ughhh!”  As she made a frustrated motion with her hands, the ray gun slipped from her hands, the trigger hitting against the side of the table.  “Ahhhh!”  A sudden warmth spread through her as a ray of purple light hit her chest.  “Fuck!”

              Missy stood up and checked herself over.  “Did it work?”  She waited for a full minute, only for nothing to happen.  “Ugh, you stupid piece of—”

              About fifteen minutes later, Missy was waiting in line at a fast-food joint, impatiently tapping her foot. “Come on. I want to order my food already. I am hungry.”

              The man ahead of her snorted.  “Oh yeah?  We are all hungry lady.  Stop complaining.”

              She arched her eyebrows.  “What did you just say to me?”

              “I said shut it.”

              Missy snorted, reaching into her pocket to aim the ray gun at the man.  “I don’t think a small man like you should be speaking to me that way.”

              “Huh?”  He turned his head as a flash of purple light enveloped him.  “What the hell?”  Everyone blinked their eyes in surprise as the man ran his hands over his body.  “What just happened to me?  Did anyone else see that light, or am I going crazy?”

              Missy shrugged.  “If you ask me, you are going crazy.”

              “Why, you little—” He gulped as he began to shrink.  “Ahhhhh!”  Everyone backed away from him.  “What is happening to me?”  His pants dropped to the ground.  “I. . . someone help.”

              Missy giggled. “Aww, you are starting to look cute. Maybe when you are the size of a doll, you will get an attitude adjustment.”

              The woman behind Missy put her hands on her hips.  “Wait, are you saying you had something to do with this?”

              Missy smiled.  “Yes.”  She pulled out the ray gun.  “I shrunk him, and if anyone has a problem with it, they can speak now and forever be shrunk!”  She laughed until she noticed everyone was closing in on her.  “Hey, now.”

              “That isn’t funny.”

              “You can’t just shrink people.”

              “Get her.”

              Missy switched the ray gun from shrink to grow and pointed it at herself.  “You can’t stop me.”  She pulled the trigger, but in her haste, she hadn’t noticed she had put the gun on Mega Growth.  “Hah.”  She put her hands on her hips.  “I just made it so you can’t do a thing.”

              “What, you shrunk yourself?”

              Missy snorted at the mob.  “No, I am going to grow a bit and make you. . .”  She moaned as a sudden intense pressure slammed into her.  “Fuck.”  She fell onto her hands and knees.  “This doesn’t feel anything like the test.”  She closed her eyes.  “So much. . . soo fuckkk!”  She suddenly grew an entire foot, her right foot slamming into the now three-inch tall man she had shrunk.

              Everyone else took a massive step back.  “What the hell did she do?”

              “Don’t look at me.”

              A young woman picked up the ray gun.  “Because if you don’t listen, we will shrink you.”
