TouchDesigner Beyond AI Hype

Lately, I’ve been hearing the same question again and again: “Why keep learning TouchDesigner if AI might replace it?”

I completely understand that feeling. With all the hype and FOMO around AI, it sometimes feels like everything we’re building could vanish overnight. Some people even wonder if it’s worth studying or creating when a machine can generate results faster and more polished than we ever could. 🤖

But here’s what I realized: art has never been just about the final result. What really matters is the process — the act of creating itself.

So instead of obsessing over outcomes, I chose to fall in love with the process. Every experiment, every mistake, every tiny discovery along the way… that’s where the magic lives.

Yes, AI might be able to render something flawless in seconds. But AI will never feel joy, curiosity, or inspiration while creating. That part is ours. That’s what keeps our humanity alive, and it’s what makes the process irreplaceable. ❤️

And honestly, the more I anchor myself to that idea, the less I worry about whether AI could replace me. Because every step I take in TouchDesigner still carries something no algorithm can replicate — that spark of being human.

So my advice? Don’t walk away from TouchDesigner. Use AI as a tool, let it support your learning, but never give up on being an artist. That’s the one thing AI can’t take away from you.

Stay close to the process, not just the result — and you’ll never question your place in this new creative world.

🔥 Keep creating, keep experimenting — the process is everything.

I'm new to this conversation, but I'm coming from the AI world trying to learn TouchDesigner because the AI can't do what TouchDesigner can.

The Cosmic Crafter

The beauty of AI and TD and other advanced digital tools, is that they are far too complex for AI to go in and do anything meaningful, and far too reliant on a creative’s eye. While AI might be able to spit out a weak image, it definitely can’t and probably never will be able to put together a complex TD network in a creative way. It doesn’t understand sound, context, art, nuance. It’s just not going to happen. Enjoy AI for what it is, but don’t be scared of it, it’s a coding assistant at best - and it’s not very good at that tbh.
