The Secret to Finding Your Creative Voice in TouchDesigner

When I first started teaching TouchDesigner, I noticed something curious: even though this community is one of the most generous and genuine I’ve ever seen, many people still feel afraid to share their creations.

Most of my students tell me they want to “master” the software before posting anything. I understand that feeling — but here’s the truth: the more we cling to perfection, the more fear and insecurity we create. And that fear makes it harder to discover our own creative voice.

Why do we feel this constant fear of rejection? It comes down to two things: the fear of negative evaluation and perfectionism. Social media amplifies both, threatening our self-esteem and pushing us into endless comparison. Sharing our process feels like exposing a part of ourselves, and that vulnerability can seem risky.

But here’s the shift: it’s better to focus on the process, not the results. Share fragments of your work as experiments. When you treat them as experiments, the pressure to be perfect disappears, and you connect more authentically with others. I’ve seen it time and again — students who take this approach grow faster, gain confidence, and discover their unique voice by sharing the journey rather than waiting years to feel “ready.”

And if you’re still feeling insecure or just starting out, maybe this is the perfect moment to build a solid foundation. That’s exactly why I designed my Beginner’s Course — step by step, it helps you explore, experiment, and discover your own creative voice without needing to know everything from the start.

Perfection doesn’t make us artists — courage does. And if you’ve been waiting for the “right time” to begin, the truth is: you’re already ready.
