💰 The Future Of The League Cup | Money in Football

Following on from Liverpool's dramatic victory in Sunday's Final, Suj and James deliberate what the future of the League Cup looks like.

With a new TV deal in place the competition is safe for now, bur arguments are raging on between the Premier League and EFL continue over football's 'new deal' and part of the discussion includes amending the League Cup. But the EFL are playing hardball and currently 2nd leg semi finals remain on next year's calendar.

But there is room for discussion, with the Premier League wanting Semi Finals to be played in a one off tie, mainly because of the amended UEFA calendar.

And could the competition eventually end up in the hands of the Premier League?

Would that mean European qualifiers left the competition?

Or might there not be a competition at all?

Comments

I feel for the Newcastle/Spurs/West Ham/Villa/Brighton/Wolves/Everton crew it’s important. I do acknowledge how important financially it is to the lower league clubs so we have to consider the money they get from playing a Premier League club.
