💰 Game 39 | Money in Football

In 2008 the Premier League revealed plans to host a 39th gameweek in the Premier League around the World. It got shutdown due to fan backlash.

But much like the Super League proposal, the idea hasn't truly gone away.

And now a change in legislation law means La Liga are closing in on an agreement to play a Spanish League match in the USA. Serie A and Ligue One will likely want in too. So will the Premier League (and Bundesliga) follow?

Could a Premier League club actually play a home game in a different continent?

Perhaps the question that needs answering, is can anyone stop it?

Suj and James discuss.

They don't. But the whole structure of NFL home v away etc is different to a 38 game league season

Another point is the NFL when they play in London - how do they allocate attendances for home/away fans?

Great pod lads. I can imagine the Community Shield being held in the States. Their stadiums have the capacity and can easily charge $1000 a ticket if the likes of Manchester City v Liverpool or Arsenal are playing
